Second disk dedicated to full on map editor?

My thought is…
Why have forge smashed in with multiplayer and campaign? Why not put “forge” into another disk that would come with the game itself to be a full on map creator. IF they did this the new forge could live up to expectation and beyond.

How would it work?
Well while in the map creator disk, you can invite up to 3 other players in your game. After your done making your map you would compose, render, and download it to a side folder in the game titled lets say " custom maps" or “user created maps”. What would be in it?
Many many tools. IN these options there will be…terrain editor, being able to lower, raise, shorten, widen, etc… Skybox editor being able to have a starry night, cloudy, sunny, sunset, you name it, maybe even an option to have all times of the day at random when you start. Maybe it will be night when you start the game, then near mid-end the sun will start to rise. Change the Weather. raining, lightning, thunder, etc…
Object editor- able to put in what ever you want into it. even change the shape, color, texture of the item you hold.

A second option that would be included in the disk would be like in-game editor. like changing the gravity of the level, the weapon damage for each individual weapon by itself, increase/decrease rate of fire, explosion radius. change the speed of the vehicles also the damage by them.

Be able to add Automated sequences in the game. Well by doing this you could make at end of the game more exciting. perhaps you would be able to add yourself, the losing teams base exploding before the screen turns black. Or maybe you can be delivered in by pelicans in the beginning of the game instead of respawning in the start,

Would this Make new map DLC’s pointless?
yes it would be, but the game developers could release possibly more tools to use to to create your maps for a fair price.

Anymore ideas that you guys have would be awesome if you commented on this explaining them. Remember this map creator would be on a separate disk all together, so many more things could be added to this.

Yea id easily pay 60 bucks EXTRA for a disk like this it would be too cool.

The main disc would still need to be able to read these maps and apply the transformations you design in-editor. Unless you also want all of the multiplayer functionality on the separate disc with Forge, moving Forge to a separate disc won’t (in and of itself) make this possible.

:\

I honestly wouldn’t want a full map editor, but keep forge how it is so there is alot more imagination needed.

This is easy enough, just have both disks read as the same game so your HDD will save the content to the same ip.

You’ve completely misunderstood my post. It’s not a matter of having access to the data, it’s a matter of being able to read it.

The multiplayer game engine has to be able to read and understand the data that is saved from Forge. So let’s say that 343 adds code that lets you raise or lower the terrain in Forge. That same code (or very similar code, anyway) has to exist in the multiplayer game engine, so that when you actually play the map, your changes are applied. The same is true for just about any change that would be possible in a new Forge. (This is because basically, Forge doesn’t do anything. It’s the game engine that handles all our customizations; Forge just gives us a bit more access to that game engine.)

What this means is that moving Forge to a separate disc won’t necessarily allow 343 to add anything new, because whatever they add also has to be available to the multiplayer game engine. Now, they could move Forge and every single piece of multiplayer functionality to their own disc, but even then, the gains probably wouldn’t be very significant.

Sounds like a great idea. I love the idea of weather and lighting. I just hate how bungie made special fx to forge as if it would change the atmosphere. It still didn’t feel like night with “purple” or evening with “orange.” I wished that they could have done that but hopefully 343 will add this feature. The problem is that they may not be able to do the features on ALL of the maps. Like the ones that are in the base Reach game. But if it takes hard drive space and microsoft points to have that awesome experience for custom games and forge, I’M TOTALLY IN!

this would be cool but there would need to be alot better forge tools and way more advance i wasn’t impressed by bungies forge in reach

I like this idea.

or they could just release a “halo custom edition 2.0” for the pc(cause its so much easier making maps on the pc) and you could just DL your maps onto a usb drive to transfer them to your xbox.

They should make the terrain be edited from all sides like as if you were inside a cube. that way we can make caves and make maps like lockout or waterworks.

Agreed. I like this idea, but it would cause lag, long loading times, and maybe even an occasional crash. The normal xbox doesn’t have tons of memory like a PC does (which is why PC’s have editors like that).
If 343 is going to put Forge in H4, they need a complete overhaul. No more just grey and green. It needs to be like H3 with different forgeable map colors and pieces.

Now that is a good idea.

I like this

I would pay $60 for the Halo 4 disc and $40 for the Map Editor disc in a heartbeat. This would be so amazing if 343i managed to implement it.
