Please don’t follow the “season pass” trend of robbing us of $10 every few months please. Nothing is worse.

Season passes are the lesser evil going forward, sure there’s some cool skins/armour coatings/name plates hidden behind the paywall. But the other alternatives are not any better, loot crates are now viewed as gateways to gambling in more and more countries so having those would push the game into the adult only age rating, paid for DLC tends to split the multiplayer base and just straight up microtransactions can be too aggressive and off putting to some players.
As with all season passes they are optional so if you don’t want to pay you don’t have too.
The problem I have with season pass is that it forces you to play and sometime I don’t want to. The one in MCC is cool because you can complete it anytime you want. But as much as I would like it, the game beeing F2P they need to find some monetization. Maybe I’ll get the first battlepasses as I will be playing a lot at the beginning.

Nothing is worse than supporting the developers for literally a few dollars every week / month? When they are giving you a multiplayer experience for completely free?
I guess they should make us content for free and pay their mortgages some other way.

Nope. The game should not only be free - they should be paying MY mortgage.

Now there’s a monetization plan I can get behind.
As long as they implement the lessons learned from MCC, it is really the BEST case scenario for monetization. Ideally, they will have a battle pass that once you buy you can unlock at ANY point down the road. Being able to purchase the pass with currency we earn in-game would be even better.
I don’t see them completely removing the “Fear of Missing Out” part, so they will still probably only let you buy a specific season’s pass during a limited run. However, this is still better than the past alternatives of Lootboxes or Map Packs that split the community. I honestly can’t think of a single system (that still generates revenue for them) that is better.
My big problem with passes is that they’re time limited. If they make them permanently available and a semi-reasonable price, I’ll be happy. Obviously passes aren’t worth it if the content is garbage.
If the Season Pass would be structured similar to MCC’s where I can go back and unlock whatever I want then I have absolutely no problem with it. Season Passes are some of the more reasonable monetization methods.

Yes I agree. Maybe also add the Exchange from MCC while they are at it :).
As long as this season pass is structured luke MCC I don’t mind.
MCC has a really good season pass method rn. They’ll probably monetize the pass (and tbh I don’t blame them: it’s a f2p game after all) but I hope they keep the idea of allowing gamers to unlock stuff from previous passes.

Have they even confirmed anyform of 'bought" season/battlepass? Everyone seems to be assuming it but I’ve seen no evidence to confirm it.
I wouldn’t mind having to pay to get some extra customization, as long as there’s no time limit on getting them like in MCC.

The entire thread is based on the assumption that is what they will do. There has been no confirmation either way.

Suspected as much. Thanks for confirming the lack of confirmation.
In which case I think two bits of evidence are critical:
I really do like the way that the MCC is doing it. However, they will have to find a way to monetize the game because it will be free to play. If they just do what MCC does but make it so you have to pay for each season, I’d be okay with that.

Yeh that’s what I prefer they do like in MCC plus the ‘exchange’ loops previous content in case we miss stuff but I’m concerned about timed exclusives in Infinite in case they don’t return since feel like it be a depressing way to exploit gamers but it’s nowhere as bad as opening up 200+ loot box’s so I had basically had enough of opening up packs since that it was very repetitive.
I’m ok with Season Pass, but not timed content.
Destiny binges “play now or miss out”. So now I don’t play it at all. After years supporting that game, I’ve been out for months, and I’m staying out. People have lives, most don’t play to feel like if they haven’t played “enough” they’re missing out or being left behind.
Sure, that’s entirely in my own head, but that’s how that approach feels to me, and despite what they might say, I’m pretty sure it’s a conscious decision.
If Season Pass is just a means of getting a boost etc, that’s fine, but seasonal content that disappears and isn’t just “holiday events” and the like, and which has limited time story components… No thanks.
Hopefully 343s 10 year plan is very different to Bungles.
Since mp is going to be f2p we can only assume there is going to be a pay to play battlepass, But I hope the free tier is like mcc tbh, I rather enjoy that battlepass.
