It bothers other game developers because FromSoftware is an ACTUAL Videogame design company.
Those that are annoyed by it being successful are those who view videogames soley as a business and not as an art form.
Videogames are more than just a cash-in for your shareholder’s wallets. They are works of art. You literally get to play god, creating a world and making it one that is intriguing and inspiring. One that someone is willing to spend hours of their actual life in an alternate world where nothing is perfect in its own way and yet… it was perfectly crafted.
Videogames these days are all about the money.
It is why Rainbow Six doesn’t have a story mode anymore, it is just an eSports game now to such a degree that the “story” is about an annual tournament of Rainbow Six played in a greek stadium.
It is why Ubisoft hasn’t given us Rayman or many other classics, simply because they cannot feasibly turn the game into an Open world with a grind system that makes you spend money in some way.
It is why Call of Duty Black Ops 4 didn’t give us a story mode and focused entirely on multiplayer, because it would reduce the budget while still giving a similar income yield.
Very few companies view videogames as a form of art nowadays.
And every other company views them with disdain wondering “how come that game is beating mine?”
