Season 1 outcomes report - store & battle pass

It did nothing but reinforce that this game should’ve been delayed for years

343i needs a shakeup at the management level, it hasn’t worked out for over a decade & has irreversably damaged Halo’s standing in the gaming world.

Back when time began they did say that Season 1 would be 6 months and Season 2 and beyond will be 3 months.

They haven’t said nothing since so I would say it is safe to say that this is plan.

Campaign totally - multiplayer could have been a work in progress and completely separate from Infinite!

It should just be Halo Online!

Because of how long the season was and how little content was in it by default anyway, I haven’t spent money on the game in about three months now.
And due to how the armor shop system is right now with how it rotates items, I am missing only a single chest-piece - the UA/Relitk Cuirass.
If they want to make money as a business, this was not the way to do it.

Also, the lack of classic maps as a default was a bit of a let down. ESPECIALLY when we saw the loading screen for launch pad showing off the Saber and you expect to get a remastering of Countdown from Reach but instead got the worst asymmetric map we have ever seen in the series since Chiron TL-34.

Battle Pass was descent, but the event battle passes were terrible.
How about instead of completing challenges to get leveled up in the event passes, you instead earn tokens through gameplay like we do in MCC. Then we can use those tokens to unlock tiers in both the regular battle pass and the event battle pass?

No bought credits, no double xp, maybe a few few infame earned challenge swaps, 90% ranked only, only the cyberpunk event completed. And the BP is finished since january. Sorry but the progression is everything vut slow…

When they said you could choose which battle pass you can progress on considering the Battle passes do not expire… I expected your idea would be how they would play it.

I’m pretty sure the multiplayer is a work in progress

Pulling the rug by saying the game was out of beta, even though nothing changed from beta to retail tells you everything you need to know, 343i had no vision beyond launch & assumed what was there was sufficient.

Fair enough, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they went back on their word and hope people would forget. I certainly did! (in this instance). But that’s fair enough, and I hope you’re right. Another 6 months would be dreadful.

I wonder if the eagerness to release was in the best interest for their HCS Sponsors/Xbox or to please the fans.

I have my conclusions.

Aye… they might do that… but until they do I’ll hold them to their breath!

Just read through it. So in short: they have not tested anything properly, did no surveys on functionality and built a non flexible system. Boy, how can this be the work auf a AAA Dev?

I mean… in 6 years, during a meeting no game designer came up with the idea/question: “what if people want to use THIS helmet with THAT chest plate? Isn’t this pretty limiting”
You gotta be kidding me…

By now I’m convinced a Live service game with a 10 year lifetime for 343 means: release to kinda working code we have, make a ton of money from our excited fans and lets see what they want, how/if we can fix something down the road… we have 10 years for it.

I only asked for two minimum things for 343i for season 2. Two simple things to improve quality and keep everyone happy.

  • Don’t mess with weapon balance in order to please the competitive community.
  • Remove all your FOMO systems, that included the weekly prize, make the weeks of a season something permanent that you can get when you can or want, like in Fortnite.

I am terribly tired of this situation, I’m tired of the decisions that are made with the competitive have to affect the rest of the players., I have been in this forum for years supporting and being understandable with 343i, but the swinging of the weapons has been like a stab.

Edit: Most of the changes here should have been implemented during Season 1. Also, we still don’t have a minimum roadmap.

Probably will go towards the career progression once that comes

The CR is to let you buy the next BP with the cr you earned, not to spend in the store (unless you want to do that, but even if the prices were lowered, the BP would be better value and more bang)

Definitely.

Good point, but I doubt they will do that as that will just cause more outrage.

Crosscore coatings will end that.

Good point.

They mentioned crosscore (armor), so that probably only means armor cores, not weapons/vehicles.
Hope they don’t do that, but like you said, it is better than repeating emblems.

I’ve got more AR coating than I do vehicle coatings combined.

Yeah, that would be nice.
Complete all your dailies, get an emblem.

Yeah, from what it sounded like, you don’t get credits unless you buy the premium pass.
Which is totally fine imo.

Others have suggested to simply add a ultimate store.
All weekly ultimates go in there and cost MCC tokens, each token costs a certain amount of XP.
You can then spend those tokens on whatever you want from the ultimate store.
Sounds like a pretty good system to me

I like a lot of what I’m reading, and I’m genuinely hopeful for the future of the game. Just don’t change my Red Shift, please. Or give me an option to pick between which version I’d want to be using. Don’t take my bright red boy away.

Oh yeah! I’d much rather they copy MCC, but considering how often they bring up “UI limitations”, I wouldn’t be surprised if it simply isn’t feasible in the near future.

I meant to say Week 6 “could be” the Alabaster Cognac Rockethog skin. Obviously I don’t know, but you get the idea.

Yeah lot of it appears to be them fixing mistakes that shouldn’t have been made in the first place. Cross-core, crap challenges, FOMO, etc.

Compared to Halo Reach, 4 and 5, this progression is the slowest I’ve ever seen in a halo game.

They’ve definitely put themselves in a rough spot re: Red Shift and Watchdog. It’s perfectly understandable that players want the versions of these coatings which were initially advertised to them, but it’s also fair that some players prefer the release versions and don’t want them to change.

I think you’re right in suggesting a toggle or simply leaving the current versions available in addition to adding the “fixed” versions of each coating is the right way to go.

The lack of any means to unlock progression through PvE modes is a big issue IMO. The elevator pitch as I interpreted it in the runup to release is that there were to be campaign challenges in addition to the PvP ones, which would allow players who prefer Halo as a PvE experience wouldn’t be entirely unable to progress with their Battle Pass.

Hopefully this is something 343i is aware of and working on… In addition to everything else. The PvE part of this game is pitifully underdeveloped. I liked the campaign, but it isn’t structured currently to be at all replay friendly (all-or-nothing replays since there’s no Mission Select), and frankly aside from the one and done Mjolnir lockers and Achievements, there’s no real incentive to spend time replaying it either. It’s such a shame to see that after MCC went so far to make sure PvE players had ample means to progress through that game’s seasonal unlock paths.

The idea for an “Ultimate Store” is perfect.

Let the Weekly Challenges grant “Ultimate Tokens”- a currency that can’t be bought with real world money and which can be redeemed in the Ultimate Store for rare and much wanted items. That fixes a lot of problems with the current system, but it also gives players the chance to choose their own prize. It’s even better if 343i is transparent about the items in the Ultimate Store not being truly exclusive (as I can’t imagine they would be), but highly rare and uncommon to come across in any other way.

Free to play was a mistake.
