So many in the community gave been finally waking up that there is a clear issue with the matching system when searching alone or with a couple friends.
This issue of playing soli and matching full teams has been an issue since day one for me. I’m a way above average player and it would always match me against a full team based on my high invisible CSR rank.
Now I completely stopped playing my favorite franchise because I don’t enjoy having to party up with a full team just to have fun. I like playing with a couple friends. H5 rewards full teams by matching them with randoms. The search parameters do not even match according to your party size which is rediculous.
So 343i has the ability to change this for halo 5 and improve the experience for those who don’t play with a well coordinated team 24/7. So please 343i add this feature to the current search preferences from the memories of reach update.
Team based matching would solve a lot of Halo 5’s issues.
teams should not be matched against solo players.

Maybe solo players should I dont know, get friends to play with.

As solid as an argument as that can be, people shouldn’t be punished for wanting to play alone every once in a while - plus, with my group of friends we have different work schedules. I want to be able to play more than just once or twice a week since that’s the only time we can all get on.

I play solo most of the time. Usually my team is not always on when I am. How busy life is, does not make it easy to team up with friends.
I play solo a lot… and seem to do better than when I am with friends. Once I join a fireteam things get sweaty.
I’m guessing that team size already is one of many variables that go into matchmaking. Problem is, if team matching was the only variable, I think matchmaking would be adversely affected.
There are plenty of things that go could into matchmaking:
Region
Connectivity strength
Skill/rank
team size
who you’ve matched with before (maybe)
Xbox Live rep (really only effects those with “Avoid me” status)
I think all of these and more play a part in determining who matches with who, and I think the variable that gets prioritized changes from game to game (and based on search preferences).
I mean, how many teams of 12 do you think are playing Halo at any one given moment worldwide? How about in your continent? How about in your time zone? Does the average skill of those teams match up with the others? Even if team size was the priority determiner in who matched with who, you wouldn’t have perfect matching. Teams would probably be playing the same other few teams over and over again, whether or not those teams were similarly skilled. Or, if you expand the regions in which you look for teams to match with, you introduce potential for lag because of ping differences. The matchmaking isn’t perfect now (no matchmaking is), but I don’t think that team size is excluded as a factor of matching. Maybe having a optional preference as OP suggested would be ok, but certainly trying to prioritize team-size matching in all existing search preferences wouldn’t end well.

Probably a lot. I wouldn’t be surprised if more than half of H5’s population is playing Warzone. This also isn’t just for Warzone. The Arena and BTB playlists also need some restrictions. I run into full parties all the time in BTB.

Half of Halo 5’s population may play Warzone, but I think that most of the people queued up in Warzone are either solo or in small groups. Ranked Arena playlists, due to the nature of competition and fear of relying on matchmaking for competent players, in total probably have more full teams playing than Warzone, but I still bet there are many, many solo players queued in those playlists.

It was never a solid argument.

Lol.
It shouldn’t be on us to enjoy the game.
Why don’t you go play Call of Duty or something? Obviously these message boards aren’t here to help you, just mock what you consider an issue or hindrance to your entertain. I mean you obviously have no friends, and the game obviously demands that you do, so in order to have a true experience, you gotta do what the game asks you.
(If I believed that was the truth, and not emulating 60% of the fanboys about to hit this thread, I’d eat my own tongue while talking.)

If you play solo then pay the price for it that simple. Stop with the pity party of getting stomped because you decided to play solo.

Maybe none of our friends enjoy Halo 5 or want to play it anymore? Food for thought.

I’m curious, is Halo 5 the only competitive game you’ve ever played?
Because no party restrictions in ANY competitive game is stupid idea. Imagine a team of Global Elites in CSGO matching solo Gold Novas. Imagine A team of Diamonds matching solo Diamonds in LoL.
Even CLG, the top team in Halo 5, matches Solo DIAMONDS, and they’re all Champions. This matching system is pathetic.
Halo 5 is the only game with this issue.
EVEN HALO 3 HAD RESTRICTIONS. Either way, it’s practically a none issue for you to run into full Onyx 2000 parties. I guess that’s why you don’t care.

I’ve played solo plenty of times and have and lost but I am not going to whine because I decided to play solo and stomped. Sorry but I have no pity for you if you play solo and end up going against a team when there are plenty of work a rounds such as meeting people on waypoint o play with or even asking friends to play. It’s nothing but a pity party for those who got stomped when they decided to run solo.
Yes.
I am sure another Halo game had this - this would be great and make Arena and Warzone play better.

It doesn’t have completely strict if there aren’t enough similar parties available. It could match one or multiple small parties against a full one. A small group of 4-6 stands a better chance than a full team of randoms going against a full party.
The other problem is the matching system. Usually, a full party of mostly onyx players will be matched against mainly platinums and golds with only a couple onyx players. It’s like the game wants you to lose. The game could at least make an exception from the social aspect and give you a decent amount of similar skill levels if it matches you against a full party.
