SDCC Cutscene shown!

SPOILER WARNING*

At SDCC, they showed a cutscene of the fight between Red team and Atriox. In the cutscene Red team recovers Isabelle at a UNSC base and moves in further into the base. Atriox ambushes them and disarms all of them. They each charged at him at a time. Alice pulls a magnum and shoots Atriox (it does nothing), Douglas stabs Atriox a bunch of times (does nothing), and Jerome I don’t know what he did (nothing useful). Atriox then damages Douglas and the spartans retreat, Atriox letting them go but sends his troops after them. Red teams gets outside and sees all the troops surrounding them, they get into a Warthog and call a missile strike as they leave being chased by a few ghosts. (Cutscene ends)

My thoughts
Atriox is not a normal brute, he is much smarter than any we have seen before but I don’t know about his armor and such. He did not flinch what so ever from all the attacks on him. I would imagine that he is weak to a headshot (Spartans are supposed to be highly trained for shoot to kill). Don’t get me wrong, the fight was badass, but I don’t think it would go down like that if it was more cannon accurate. I will also let it slide that he didn’t show up on their motion trackers (if they had motion trackers). I also don’t think they would go one at a time. If any thing I think they would have regrouped and worked as a team (like they did on the bridge in Halo Wars 1). A counter argument can be made saying that Atriox separated them and they are a bit rusty from being in cryo for a while and are not thinking straight.

Leave your thoughts about this down below and sorry if I got anything wrong.

Yeah I feel like they didn’t approach the fight with Attiox in the most tactical way. I think they underestimated Atriox thinking he was just a normal brute and were caught completely off guard. I’m real exited at the prospect of fighting against Brutes that are more than just muscle bound meat heads.

It is called “the Worf Effect”

It is idiotic but they went for it

It’s a cinematic… They are never approached with realism in Halo.

Stop nitpicking.

Uhm…no.

Also, as I said, the scene was in place to make a point, a horribly conceived one of course but still “ZOMG the new adversary is teh badassness!!!11!!one” -headdesk-

Remember 343 tried to do the same with Locke going toe to toe with the chief which made no sense.

Literally unplayable

Each Halo title’s cutscenes have numerous flaws and inconsistencies.

Every scene is always in place to make a point and yet most of them are guilty of these flaws. This isn’t new.

Yes, a known trope, and yet how is it idiotic? It’s effective, and if done with moderate consideration and tact can be appropriate.

Yes…IF

I would not call the way Atriox was introduced neither considerate nor tactful

Let’s hear how you would have done it in a timely and effective manner, shall we?

I’m not saying it’s perfect, but hardly the worst in Halo story telling and exposition.

In halo 5 Locke (idiotically mind you…there is no chance in he’ll he would have come that close) fight and hold his own against the chief. That coupled with the intro establishes him as badass. Notice that he does not single handedly wipe the floor with blue team. That was cheap and done nearly solely for shock value and cheapens red team members as hero units AND as spartan 2s if you ask me.

To me atriox is to the banished as master chief is to the unsc/ Spartan II program. Something different/special about him. Whether it be his intelligence or battlefield tactics , maybe they will have to call in John 117 to kick some butt!! Lol

Unlikely, John is VERY unlikely to appear in halo wars just as red team is unlikely to appear in a halo numbered game

  1. You didn’t answer the question.

  2. Brutes are much taller and broader than Spartans.

  3. It does not “cheapen Red team as heros”

1: I thought I did…see halo 5. In a fight in which we get a close draw
2: Please do watch both the halo shorts…Spartans beat the hell out of brutes. Hell…in the fiction a single spartan takes on a hunter hand to hand and wins. Not to mention spartans have the physical strength of twice a man their size thanks to the improved muscles AND that is multiplied by a factor of FIVE by the gel layer of the mjolnir…explain to me again HOW the brute size is a factor here besides making it a larger target?
3: it cheapens them as HERO UNITS.

Good god, that was your answer? You made it sound like you disagreed with how Halo 5 did it.

Sure, Spartans have beat up Brutes, but Brutes have taken out Spartans before. The whole idea here is that Atriox is not your average Brute.

I don’t understand your hangup on this, but you’re entitled to your opinion on it.

My hangup is that the use of a crude worf effect trope at the expense of red team was an unnecessary, cheap and lazy way to establish Atriox as a threat

That Spartan, Will, that took out a Hunter by punching it was 41.

Red Team is still 20 physically and mentally as of the events of Halo Wars 2. They did not experience twenty seven years of war with the Covenant, they experienced six years of it. They were not present at Reach, or at Earth, or anything past the Shield World from HW1.

They also had MK IV, which does not have energy shields unlike MK V forward, which was not introduced until 2552 during the Fall of Reach… The II’s may be Spartans, but they can still be killed despite popular belief in the lore that “Spartans never die.”

Originally in the books they were show in such a way now? Not so much. Look at both the shorts and even the cutscenes in halo 4.
