[scripting] Map Options Wind Override XYZ

to make a long story short, in halo infinite forge i would like the ability to use scripting to change this setting Forge Options>Map Options>Wind>Override X Y Z +/-
in order to produce unique vacuumed out of space station airlock sort of features in my maps.
in halo 5 forge, we cannot use script brains to change Forge Options>Map Options>Wind>Override X Y Z +/-
can someone with halo infinite forge verify if the new scripting nodes are capable of changing this value in maps?

the topic of this post is ā€œwind direction overrideā€. windspeed direction in halo 5 forge is able to be changed and this affects any weather overlays players experience in their maps. for example, i made a map on glacier and i was able to set the weather fx to heavy snow. in addition to having heavy snow, i was able to recognize the tallest mountain peak in glacier.

it was my intention to replicate ā€œkatabatic windā€ on my map in glacier in halo 5 forge. i was able to do this quite well, and i am pleased with the result. The exact setting is titled: Forge Options>Map Options>Wind>Override X Y Z +/-

this is a very cool feature and works well to produce wind and snow falling down the slope of the tallest mountain in glacier

definition from Wikipedia: A katabatic wind (named from the Greek word ĪŗĪ±Ļ„Ī¬Ī²Ī±ĻƒĪ¹Ļ‚ katabasis, meaning ā€œdescendingā€) is a drainage wind, a wind that carries high-density air from a higher elevation down a slope under the force of gravity. Such winds are sometimes also called fall winds; the spelling catabatic winds is…

anyway the snow should fall in a particular direction. we’re able to make katabatic wind pretty well in halo 5 forge.

HOWEVER, the other night i was trying to make a map on parallax. i am making a space station map with a scripted airlock and gravity slopes to simulate pulling players out of the space station and into the vacuum of space as an environmental hazard. if a player presses the airlock button, and gets caught in the vacuum zone, they are pulled out of the space station.

I NOTICED the wind speed direction override which i used previously for katabtic wind effects would be very useful in this new space station map i was making. there are overhead ventilation ducts in my spacestation map, and i added some falling steam/fx to look like condensed water vapor. to my great surprise, the wind speed setting affected the direction that this fx emitted!

what i truly desired with SCRIPTING Wind Direction Override is the falling steam fx to fall straight down on the map normally, as if there is no vacuum being pulled on it. The map, after all, is set to No Wind Direction Override at rest. Next, when a player comes along and presses the airlock button, and normal physics objects get vacuumed out the airlock, i would like to be able to add a script on a timer that Forge Options>Map Options>Wind>Override X Y Z +/- so as to have the fx emitter trail appear to be sucked out of the airlock.

Does this make sense?

I’m not really understanding the importance of the wind override for the airlock. You can achieve the same suction effect without it. If you set the gravity volumes to despawn at match start, and to spawn/ despawn on whichever channels you need the door will still have the same vacuum effect. Additionally, if you place a slight bump at the edge of the structure and a kill barrier attached to it on the outside player bodies will often do the flailing death animation indefinitely.

From my experience using wind override in Halo 5 it seemed to only affect the direction that particles/ gas would be blown. Have you had previous success using wind override for airlocks in the past?

as I stumble across suggestions for improvements to forge, like wind direction override scriptability then i post them here to make a record of it for 343 to reference
