Just look at this:

It’s appalling that they’ve clearly optimized the website for 1920p vertical displays, and yet Halo 4 STILL lacks a TATE option. What the heck, 343? Every Cave 360 shooter prior to the release of Halo 4 has featured TATE, including but not limited to Mushihimesama Futari, DoDonPachi Dai-Fukkatsu, Espgaluda II Black Label, and Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi EXTRA, so why can’t Halo 4 include this option as well? It’s embarrassing to see that any Japanese developer manages to include this vital feature in THEIR shooters, heck, even the budget XBLA titles have it! Why can’t Halo 4, a SIXTY DOLLAR FLAGSHIP AAA BLOCKBUSTER, do the same? Why did they release an unfinished product without even so much a beta test to catch such egregious omissions as this?

Forget about merely ruining the franchise. 343 is making America look incompetent.

Unbelievable.

…What?

> …What?

I have to agree. They both look just as blurry and terrible in those photos. Its just less noticible on the Japanese one because its simple sprite art.

EDIT: Oh, I get it. The game isn’t insanely vertical to match your silly screen.
I don’t know why you’d ever want to play a shooter with no peripheral vision.

didn’t even know vertical display monitors existed until just now, you learn something new everyday

LOL yeah me neither. :stuck_out_tongue: Man, the things we still don’t know exist out there…

EDIT: Never mind. I get it now. That’s kinda strange.

Okay, yeah, my phone camera is terrible. Compare these two.

This is DoDonPachi Dai-Fukkatsu for the Xbox 360 running in TATE on a candy cab:

And here is a screenshot of Halo 4:

I mean, WTF am I even looking at? Am I supposed to tilt my head as I play? Why is it that I can play EVERY OTHER shooter on the 360 without having to rotate my screen EXCEPT Halo 4?

hmmmmmmmm, why play on vertical display? and can you explain what TATE is for those of us who dont speak…robot?

Not sure if satire or exaggerated legitimate concern…

“TATE” is shoot-em-up slang for vertical display modes. Like dozens of shooters for the Xbox 360 feature it but not Halo 4 apparently.

I mean, geez, just off the top of my head there’s the ones I already mentioned and:

Raiden IV
Raiden Fighters Aces
Ikaruga
Bullet Soul
Ginga Force
Eschatos
Under Defeat HD

and the list goes ON!

Not a single one of the games you mentioned is an FPS. All of them belong to the ‘bullet hell/panic’ genre. Those games are a completely different beast from FPS games. Perhaps if you could name a different FPS game that allows has a TATE option …
