I was curious and hit X for game details at the dashboard and it brought me to Halo Wars marketplace page. Not sure why but I decided to look through the gallery and saw some images that weren’t familiar to me. The maps the gallery showed off were definitely not in the game. Are these maps from an upcoming map pack or could they have been scrapped before the game released? Either way, some of those maps looked pretty interesting and Halo Wars is in desperate need of 3v3 maps… Hint hint…

This one looks a lot like the third mission from the campaign.
Doesn’t look like it’s in the game. Judging by the lack of turrets on the base, no detail behind the trees, or pointy armor on the grunts, I’d say this was taken during development.
Looks like the map Labyrinth, but obviously it’s not.
This one also looks like Labyrinth; only it doesn’t have those trees seen in the top right corner. I’d also like to point out that grunts aren’t that small in the game.
Thinking about it, these must of been taken before the game came out. Some of these screenshots probably show maps that were discarded, play-test maps, or what the existing maps evolved from… I personally would like to see these added so 3v3 isn’t so repetitive though.
Are you reffering to the DLC maps that have been out for awhile glacier ravine?
No, I have both DLC packs. I’m aware of what every map on the game looks like and the ones seen in the gallery are not in the game, including the campaign.
Oh, you can see those kinds of images on the back of the Halo Wars case, too. I think they were pictures of an alpha or beta build, because in them the covenant had spirit dropships (which I think would have been a good addition to the full game), and the scarab looked different. But yeah, a lot of pictures of Halo Wars were from early builds.

Yeah, I just posted a few of the screenshots I was talking about. It does appear to be pre-release gameplay. Still though, making a few more maps for Halo Wars shouldn’t be a difficult, time consuming project for 343. Plus, the 6,000 some players who continue playing the game everyday would most likely buy new maps anyways.
