Scrap Theatre Mode

In the age of the Xbox One, theatre mode in Halo is useless and should be rid of completely and forever.

Why would we need theatre mode with Game DVR now a basic feature in the Xbox one? Most of the cool moments are under 30 seconds long. You want to record them? say “Xbox Record that!” You want longer recordings? Snap Game DVR! Say you want even LONGER recordings, broadcast to twitch and save your entire matchup.

The theatre mode is completely useless now. It’s not even needed for machinima (which is dying out let us all be completely honest. When was the last time you watched something other than Red vs Blue? A lot of people don’t watch much anymore. Heck after 10 seasons most of Red vs Blue is all made with computer modeling programs anyways).

So I say, scrap theatre mode. Put it to rest and post those resources to much better use!

What if I want to go back and analyze a game that I just played? Or if I want to review something from a different perspective? What about simply taking a screenshot?

While the Xbox One’s recording functions are cool, they pale in comparison to Theatre mode. Taking it out would be an absolutely terrible idea.

I disagree. I think theater should come back better than ever. Can you search around maps and take screenshots using Game DVR? I don’t think so.

Plus, theater lets you take videos from different angles and from other players perspectives. There’s a big community of people out there that use theater. Without theater, you would be disappointing a ton of fans.

And what if people want to take screen shots?

To you, machinima is dying. However, to many people, machinima is still a big deal. Rise of the Spartans is one of the best machinima series I’ve ever watched, and that wasn’t made too long ago. I know it isn’t the biggest thing ever, but it’s still there. Unless you have actual numbers that prove machinima is dying, don’t speak for a group of people that isn’t there.

One thing I don’t get is what’s the matter with Theater mode? You say there DVR replaces some of Theater’s features, but you say it as if Theater is a bad feature. “Theater mode must be scrapped at once, it is a 100% useless feature!” Yeah, DVR does one or two things, but nothing that warrants a replacement. Theater still has a lot of uses, buddy.

I somewhat agree with the OP.

I think a lot of the features could easily be replaced with Twitch and XOne build in features.

Implement an ‘upload to Youtube’ option however, and focus more on making it a more comprehensive and expansive function to create machinima instead of it simply being what it is right now.

Um… no…

Multiple perspectives aren’t that important. I rarely play a game of Titanfall and look to see how something happened from my friend’s perspective. His viewpoint doesn’t matter because the game clip is about me. So it should be from my viewpoint.

How often does anyone REALLY go back and analyze games they played? Unlikely and not very often so matter what anyone posts on here.

As for screenshots, that feature will be implemented sooner than you think. You can take screenshots of the footage. That should be enough.

Theatre mode is just wasted space and resources. It should be retired while it still can.

Lol. The Xbox One’s game DVR is nowhere near as useful or as user-friendly as Theater. You might as well say custom gametypes are unnecessary because we have matchmaking.

Theater mode provides so much more than a streaming DVR ever could.

Actually all of season 11 of Red vs Blue was done in Halo 4’s Theater mode (with Halo 3 used in the end scene with agent Carolina).

Cool. Good thing you don’t have to use it.

Theater isn’t just for analyzing matches and learning how to be an MLG tryhard.
Though, sometimes it is nice to know where the hell that sniper came from or how that box got blasted across the map to your face.

It is also used widely in campaign and other modes. Grabbing insane screenshots in places you can’t physically go in the game due to boundaries.
Besides, a gun and a HUD usually ruins the impact of some screenshots.

Sometimes you have to rotate the camera to get a really good shot or see it from a really epic angle.
Also, tell me when Xbox One has built in Pan Cam for breaking out of maps and finding easter eggs and other secrets hidden outside the map.

Like someone said above, taking out theater because Xbox One can record a short clip is like taking out custom games because we have matchmaking. They don’t offer the same experience in a way that justifies it.

No.

So after the outcry over Halo 4’s botched Theater mode fans displayed, you think cutting it is a good idea? Judging by the responses in this thread, sure doesn’t look like it.

just because it isn’t important to you doesn’t mean no one else cares.

How exactly do you know how much theatre is used? Do you have some special second sight that let’s you see what everyone playing Halo is doing?

“While it still can?” Is there some risk that Theatre mode will become self-aware and start taking over our toasters?

“His view point dosen’t matter beecause the game clip is about me”

People like seeing games played from a diffrent point of view. Like seeing where a player shot you from. Or if my friend did somthing cool and I missed it.

If you don’t like theatre mode then use the Xbox DVR. I’ll be using the theatre though.

DSight, this is one time when you’re dead WRONG, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T USE IT, DOES NOT THERE AREN’T THOSE OF US WHO DO USE IT!

I’ve seen some amazing screenshots created using theater mode, I’ve seen people create 3D models of things in Halo, because they had theater mode. And for the record I do watch machinima other than RvB.

Xbox One’s ability to record gameplay is NOT the same as theater mode, NOR should it be a damn reason to remove theater mode.

Man, so many touchy people in here.

Relax! Everyone needs to tone down the anger and not be so defensive about everything.

Then stop arguing against a popular feature just because you personally don’t use it much. You need to consider how and why others use Theater mode extensively.

Xbox One’s DVR is simply recording what is on the screen.
Halo’s theater mode is an in-engine actual gaming device that allows for camera detachments, multiple viewpoints, map exploration, post-game analysis in multiple speeds frame-by-frame … it’s an amazing tool.

DVR is like hooking a VCR up to your TV and recording a movie.
Theater mode is like being able to step into that movie and look wherever you want.

Theater clips are not video, they’re in-game engine utilization.

Were all simply disagreeing not angry. Everyone has diffrent opinions. But as you can see from the responses, removing theater is a bad idea.
