In halo: Infinite, does anyone think the phaetons should be scrapped and War Sphinxes added in their place? Or maybe have them as a main dog fighter instead of the phaetons for space combat? If anyone has seen images and descriptions of them, they’re totally epic and I think they deserve at least a showcase in Halo: Infinite, but I thought it would be fun to see what other people think about it
As much as I would love to pilot a War Sphinx. The things are just to OP and would have to be scaled down a lot to work. They could literally lift continent size land masses and hurl them at targets. Mind you they are using gravity manipulation to do this not raw strength. In terms of size it is in between an Elephant(Vehicle) and a Mammoth(Vehicle). It is also able to fly at much faster speeds than a Seraph Fight.

Agree with you there. There were a lot of other cool single-fighter vehicles in the Forerunner military though, so perhaps one of those could make an appearance instead. The phaetons kinda came out of no where lore-wise as far as I know. So bringing back some already established ship-types from the Forerunner sandbox might work better.

Or they could add Forerunner Combat skin as a single player vehicle. While it sounds more like a power up it could work more like a vehicle. 3r person, Floating, Similar Speed and Movement to the ghost or perhaps it could fly can control similar go the Phaeton maybe at a slower speed. It could have a shorten Teleport dash dodge like the Phaeton. Its weapons could be formed from the suit and be a similar constant beam like the Helios. Even the pulse Missiles could work as floating orbs of hardlight created by the use. The weapon could also double as a Blade similar to the Wardens.
What about the scrapped forerunner tank from Halo 2? Bungie definitely had plans for a heavy - Builder faction ground vehicle.
I’m not sure what a Sphinx is but I don’t want them to scrap the Phaeton, I want them to add more Promethean vehicles actually.
Phaetons move far too slowly to be effective in air combat against ground based enemies unless your also got teammates pounding away at the enemy as well, because if, say, a warden eternal opens fire on you while you’re in one and you get the full load of that your phaeton ai t gonna last long against it. That stupid side zoom dodge move isn’t so good either. Any competent player will unload on you with minor weapons, forcing you to skip to the side when you take a hit. Then they’ll target you with an surface to air weapon and shoot you down. Because of the slowness of the phaeton you’re extremely vulnerable to major weapons at that time after using the side skip thrusters.
Just leave the Phaeton in and add the other vehicles. How is this even a question? The best way to make a good Halo game is to add, not subtract.
It really doesn’t matter which is in the game. They just need to be designed better, and there is no evidence the War Sphinxes would be designed any better than what we currently have.

They are introduced in the Greg Bear novel Cryptum, possibly in another place also. Besides the description in the book I have no idea what they look like. If someone could direct me to a visual concept of them I might be down.

According to this they’re pretty big air and land vehicles, sounds OP.

Yeah they look OP too. Looks more like an RTS vehicle than an FPS vehicle.

My thoughts as well. Maybe instead of actually having playable ones which I don’t think would work, have one as a boss battle. Kinda along the lines of a Scarab.

Makes me think about humanoid mechs. You know, that sort of thing could be really cool to have in Halo in the near future. The UNSC is still too far behind with that kind of technology when looking at the Mantis. It’d be cool to ‘pilot’ these sort of ‘Combat Skins’ and have at least a couple missions centered around that idea. After all, the Grunts are already making their own battle mechs and it’d be nice to at least fight toe to toe with them if not rip them apart like tissue paper.
Why not both?, the Phaetons are already built so don’t see why wouldn’t re-use the assets…though in fairness they probably need re-balancing just like the Wasp plus it be nice to have a bit of variety since a War Spinx would probably fight differently.

Forerunner tank? Do explain, I’m very interested now!

You know, you may be on to something there. . .
Also let me make a collective apology for not monitoring this thread at all, I’ve been away and very busy for the past month and a bit and I’ve had no time but I’ll do my best to keep at it now that I’m back home
