Scorpion/Wraith canopy sniping

In Halo Reach and Halo 4, players could snipe the canopy off of the driver cockpit of the Wraith and Scorpion allowing them to snipe the driver out of the vehicle. This was an effective counter measure in lieu of a Spartan Laser or other vehicle destroying power weapon. It also gave your teammates a chance to capture the vehicle for their use for your team. However, in Halo 5, I have found it is impossible to snipe the canopy off of a tank vehicle to get at the driver. As a matter of face, nothing seems to pop the canopy off of tanks now, not even direct hits from spartan lasers, rocket launchers or fuel rod cannons. I believe this needs to change.

Given the new types of tanks which are nearly indestructible (ONI Scorpion, Ultra Wraith), it would be nice for them to have at least one weak point to be exploited to stop them from giving the driver one heck of a rampage aside from having to rush it en mass and try to board it.

No. There’s already enough factors when it comes to losing your vehicle. If someone decides to use an Oni vehicle, it should be hard to take out. I’m a level 88 and I’ve never had a Oni Scorpion because they’re so hard to get. Why should it be easy to take out after all that time it took to acquire it? Its annoying enough being destroyed instantly in normal Scorpions.

You say that as if it’s super easy to snipe a driver out of a scorpion. I’m all for this, as it’s pretty annoying to have no way to destroy a scorpion/wraith without boarding it and nading it. Also, there’s no way to deal with it from afar without super heavy ordinance.

Well I had a weird one the other day. I had a Beam Rifle and put a few shots into a heavily damaged Wraith, shooting the driver area. Next thing I know I got the driver kill, but a teammate got the Wraith destroy credit.

Well obviously the canopy on an ONI/Ultra vehicle will take a few more shots to pop than a regular or one of the other upgraded versions. So the vehicle won’t be an instant loss, but it will force drivers to be extra vigilant and for their teammates to cover them better.

I’d rather not have that. The stronger scorpions are quite rare and take quite a while to get up to a req level high enough to use so it’d be quite infuriating to be killed by a regular sniper within a clip of ammo(assuming they’re a decent shot). It’s already bad enough when you spawn in a vehicle and an enemy boards you immediately because they were hiding close to the vehicle bay(people that do that and spawn camp are the worst and I hope they get a paper cut between their toes). A spartan laser isn’t extremely rare and will make quick work of any vehicle. There’s a plethora of things that’ll quickly destroy a vehicle including every single power weapon and loadout weapons with hardlight shots. We don’t need to add more ways to kill the hard to get vehicles. Tank beats everything. That’s how it’ll always be so deal with it.

I highly enjoy camping out where enemy vehicles spawn board them and tag a grenade on them for the instant kill. The better the req the better I feel!

I agree. It is fine the way it is. I can destroy a scorpion half way across the map with a dmr.

I got so lucky once, had someone camping outside my base, I was able to drive and turn the turret around and kill em…i can only imagine how bad it would be to lose an ONI scorpion to someone camping your base.

A paper cut between your toes isn’t enough for people like you. I hope you step on lego, get a bad itch on that one part of your back you can’t reach, and get a paper cut between your toes and you’ll sweat and the sweat will get into the paper cut. Only then will all of the reqs that were cheaply destroyed be avenged. In all seriousness, it’s a legitimate strategy but I hope I’m never in a lobby with you, unless of course, you’re on my team.

Only had this happen once, wasnt impressed in the slightest… I don’t mind people that rush, or camp or any other strategy, but spawn killing is an evil thing, it’s not nice, very rude and people that regularly partake should be subjected to death by paper cuts.

This happened to me once too. Then i killed that -Yoink- 5 times with a Banshe.

Normally i’m very careful using a Wraith, and i kill a lot of campers trying to ride me. They usually stay hidden behind a wall, thinking I’m not paying attention to the radar.

I think Scorpions are easy enough to take out as is, I don’t really see why the need for another method.

Thankfully, I haven’t been subjected to instant vehicle destruction from some awful, awful person, but I did destroy someone’s Scorpion as it was spawning on Battle of Noctus with my Scorpion, and still feel kinda bad for that.

Have you seen how slow they move? It would be incredibly easy to get them out! If you think it would be hard to snipe someone out of a vehicle that moves 1/3 the speed of a normal moving spartan, then that’s a personal problem. There’s plasma pistols, rocket launcher, spartan lasers, plasma casters, fuel rod cannons, The Answer and so much more that can take a tank out with little effort. Even BRs can take them out quick if a good amount of players focus their fire on it.

I would love to see some canopy sniping, but they need to nerf the tracking on plasma pistols. It is way to easy to lose an ultra banshee to a PP shot that was aimed lazily. And shooting someone off your wraith needs to be a thing. Also, Mantis should not be boarded from the front.
