Scorpion Tank

Is it just me or has the tank not been fun for a while, at least compared to the other vehicles…

Wraith has a boost to run people over. Mantis has multiple weapons and a stomp (at least it did in h4, I actually haven’t tried it in 5 yet). And the same for the lesser vehicles, they all do stuff…

I don’t get why the tank gunner doesn’t have access to a machine gun. Its pretty standard to have a coaxial machine gun next to the main turret. I think a return to this functionality- having both the tank round and the machine gun would go a long way to making the tank as fun as it once was.

That would certainly give it an ability that no other vehicles have, and I don’t think it would cause unbalance because the vehicles in Halo 5 are less durable than a rock.

All the new spartan abilities have made it easier than ever to evade, and eventually board, enemy Scorpions. Meanwhile the Scorpion has not evolved at all to match these abilities. Thus, the Scorpion can easily be outmaneuvered and destroyed.

Great idea. Mantis has missiles and a machine gun. Tank should have it as well. I think the wraith can stay as is, with a gunner.

yup. The wraith can more easily handle the ground troops, but not the scorpion.

I wouldn’t mind giving the tank the optional gunner up front as well as the coaxial gun. I mean, its a friggin tank. It should be a monster.

Its better if you have support from teammates to watch your back as real life tanks need infantry support too.

not on the small scale. You don’t have grunts running behind an Abrams just in case the enemy boards it from behind.

yes, the scorpion is better when you have ground support, but as it is, it almost requires it to be effective. I don’t see any other vehicle with that issue.

It seriously needs a better defensive measure more than anything. It’s pretty pathetic when you spawn one in, spend 5 minutes rolling it over to the enemy base, and then getting one kill before someone inevitably flanks you, boards it, and ends it. I’m obviously no balance expert, but something needs to be done. Either make it impossible to board, or better yet, make it require two infantry to simultaneously board it on two complementary weak spots in order to destroy it. Besides those suggestions, maybe give it a kind of pulse move which blasts enemies away from it, but that’s a little far-fetched. Bottom line, something needs to be done.

I had my first good game with a spawned tank yesterday…3 months after the release of the game lol. I usually get a kill and then it’s blown up but this one we were losing bad and I believe our core was vulnerable. I sat back and picked people off in the open and made sure I wasn’t anywhere near cover where there could be the potential for someone to sneak up on me. I think that’s the best tactic if you don’t have someone covering you because all my failed tries at tank dominance was rolling in heavy ready to blast everything. You would think you could do that with a tank but its more of a long range death dealer at least in my experience.

Definitely more of a defensive vehicle at this point. Only worth it for defending, or “attacking”, the cores, if you can even get it over there in time. Too slow to move all the way across a map.

Yeah tank needs something because it’s the easiest vehicle to board in a halo game to date.

I’m still trying to figure out why moves like a military tank from the 21st-century , you would think with the abilities and the technologies of the scientist I’m at the Halo universe someone would have designed something that doesn’t get stuck , throws a track , or hasn’t wait distribution issues , that slows it down.

I think we’ve come a long way from “tank beats everything.”

The tank is still fun to me. Nothing makes my day better than chucking a really big cannon round at the enemy across the map and getting a 2x kill or higher with it in one sitting/shot :slight_smile:

A good balance would be to remove the rear boarding option because your gunner has no LOS for about 1/3 of the radius, and maybe add a coaxial gun like we used to have. I get why they added a MG turret in Halo 3 but these days few people want to get in a random tank and actually use teamwork and communication. Coax is pretty standard and way more effective against infantry IMO than a main gun.

Imagine an ONI Scorpion with the HE MG rounds in a coaxial mount… I’ll leave you now with that happy though:)

Making it impossible to board would be the best thing ever for Tanks (Wraiths and mantises included) and would make the vehicles much better to play with. I know this was introduced in earlier games, but I personally think that with how fast gameplay is, and how easy it is to destroy those larger vehicles, it would make them a force to be recognized on the battlefield.

Scorpion is currently not good on all Warzone maps. You need a good line of sight to be sure to get your target. All current maps have narrow corridors, hills or valleys that ensure you will be boarded in a minute or less from any sides.

They are ok in Assault so far.

They need to buff ALL chain guns, not to ONI standards but something would be nice, a hog vs ghost fight usually ends up with both vehicles really weak but the hogs gun overheats and the ghost is still sitting there shooting so it wins. (get to know me, I HATE the ghost)

I know for a fact the Mantis’s gun is garbage, and the front boarding mixed with a terrible gun=dead mantis

Back in my day that thing was a deathtrap due to a certain pistol.
