I think this is really needed. Since they made firefight so sweaty and kinda annoying with the long respawn time I think this would kinda make up for it. It would give players a chance to earn some req points and xp in a less sweaty mode. Of course make the rp/xp variable depending on what difficulty level and maybe even give bonuses if certain skills are used. While odds are this will never happen I just feel it’s a great idea. I can’t really say how many req points or xp points each difficulty should pay out but they should at least make it something.
An idea I can see no counter for, besides the abuse of the system like people did in reach with the target designator. It would provide an incentive to play through the campaign. This is the only halo that I have barely touched the campaign for.

It’d be like reach where you still earned credits in campaign mode based on your score. I think it’s a great idea.

Sounds like a terrific idea! I definitely enjoyed Score Attack back when Halo Reach was in its prime, and it would be great to see it make a return in Halo 5.

Well there is no target designator in H5 or even a weapon similar. But I think this would be an awesome compromise since Firefight is so sweaty all the time.

I’m totally in support of your idea, that was just the only reason I could come up with tha 343 would say as to why they wouldn’t implement this. They’d come up with something though since this would definitely cut into those paid REQ packs.
Or 343i could bring back challenges; that would be a better way to reward players for playing the Campaign.

Not really. Just keep the payout relatively low unless a player is doing LASO.
I’d honestly settle for a bandana skull for halo 5, imagine the chaos with those hidden REQ weapons in the missions.
People are always going to find ways to abuse the game to save time, whenever they can. If you got even a decent payout for campaign runs – let’s say 400 on a regular run, 800 on a fast run – you’d still get people putting up videos on how to do a fast run every time, so fast that you’re earning RP/XP as fast as (if not faster than) online. Here are two ways I can think of that they could reliably gate it:
- Competitive to the max. At the stroke of midnight, a leaderboard resets. From that point until next reset, the “time to beat” is set by the next fastest time. The “time to beat” would give a substantial payout, while getting in under it by percentages (say, 95% of that time, 90% of the time, 75% of that time, 50% of that time) would yield decreasing rewards (with a sharp decrease after 90%). This would fit with Halo 5’s pro skillz vibe that seeks to encourage zealous play from the tight-knit community around Halo, at the cost of engagement by the masses. It would also, in the broader spectrum, resolve the issue by simply being too challenging for all but the most dedicated to reliably farm. - RP/XP rewards are doled out as a balance between time and score (without time/skull multipliers). If you murder everything in fantastic ways and finish with a time multiplier and a skull multiplier, the RP/XP rain down on you. If you speedrun and kill virtually nothing, you get some piddly amount. You kill everything but take two hours, you get an equally piddly amount. You finish in twenty minutes and kill 50% of your enemies, you get about 600 RPs, maybe 800 XP. This would encourage some of the first idea’s zealotry but it wouldn’t flabbergast the average player when they don’t get fat stackz of RP/XP – they’d see that their score or time was weak, and know what they’d need to do to get more. - Challenges. Not the stupid Reach ones where you had to kill so many things. There were some really good Reach ones like killing the BoB on a given map, or blowing up some esoteric objects that happened to be part of some level. That kind of stuff that changes how you play the game in new ways would be cool. Assuming there’s much of that to be had – Halo 5 campaign doesn’t seem to have much to do in it. Reach was chalk-full of fiddly bits. I guess there’s the xenomorph doll easter eggs and maybe they could task you with using the hidden REQs for weird stuff.

You’re supposed to play games because they are good. Needing xp incentives for multiplayer has mostly ruined multiplayer, we don’t need it for singleplayer too.
It doesn’t award anything?

How has it? it isn’t really performance based, so it doesn’t really change the play style. Reach gave you credits, so you could have fun playing the campaign while also working for that armor you like, Halo 5 should do the same.

How has xp ruined multiplayer? Also not saying it’s necessary but it would just be nice to be able to earn some xp/rp in a more relaxed setting than in multiplayer.
this would be just like reach, and i just loved reach
This idea needs more attention, so, I’m starting another thread on it now as well to hopefully draw more attention to it.
I literally haven’t played the campaign since the first week I bought the game because I beat it on solo Legendary and got all of the unlockables in that first playthrough. Which is sad, since I really enjoyed the campaign, but I have no reason to go back to it (other than my co-op Legendary run), as I could care less about Score Attack without some sort of reward for playing it.
RP, XP, either way, it should happen! Or do campaign challenges, like Black Ops. Yes please!

Deliberately posting another thread about the same topic isn’t the way to get a topic noticed. In fact it is against the rules around here. Just giving you an FYI. Plus, in a way, it is taking away from the OP’s thread, and that’s not real cool. Just support this topic by following it, and posting when you see the need.

Hey I get it. I am an old school video gamer too. Played when the goal was just to finish the game. There was no gamerscore or rewards to earn. We have to give that thinking up though. Times have changed.
I think this is a great idea. Nothing wrong with earning a little xp/rp when playing the campaign. And who cares if players find what they think are shortcuts to earning by way of playing a speedrun of a level? That’s still just work for them and they can have at it. I tried that whole target designator thing a couple of times…damn, that was some boring Halo!

That’s fair, just figured the more it was out there, the more likely it was to be noticed. I did comment on this thread twice now, so it would help this thread get noticed as a result. Not trying to steal anyone’s thunder here (I made my post a poll and can add the OP as the originator of the idea there), but just figure we’re all trying to help achieve that same goal.
DaxSeven09
I gave him the shoutout on that thread just now - additionally, if he asks, I’ll take down that post altogether. Again, wasn’t trying to steal his thunder, just thought the more that idea was out there, the more likely it was people would see it and continue to buzz about it, hopefully, to the point where 343 would see that!

It’s all good man. I was just giving you a friendly heads up.
