Is it me, or is the scattershot dreadfully hard to use? I’ve never really been able to do well with this weapon, and I’d really appreciate it if anyone had any advice.
EDIT: After reading your posts, it seems that using it like a shotgun is the best option at close range, and bouncing the shots off the ground is better outside of close range. Due to a strange property on the Scattershot’s projectiles, damage can be inconsistent compared to the shotgun.

Treat it like a shotgun, try to zoom in if you can. The didact’s signet one has a lot more range than is prudent.

And that’s how I feel I get it shoot someone point blank, nothing. I get shot point blank, dead.

I feel the damage is really inconsistent. I remember one time in fiesta I jump thrusted, zoomed in, and shot a spartan point blank in the face from the side, and he didn’t die. I checked the theater and all projectiles hit the Spartan.
I don’t remember exactly who it was (maybe thy ReaperMC?), but someone demonstrated that damage from the Scattershot’s rounds can be absorbed/deflected/something by the enemy’s own gun. That might have something to do with it.

That’s… strange. It would explain the inconsistent damage, but… I wonder if it’s intentional?

I’d assume it’s intentional, though with some of the glitches in Halo 5 (Ad Victoriam rockets getting lodged in enemies, Armory phasing, etc, though those have been patched), it might not be.

Considering boarding a Mantis from the front was unintentional (and took a year to fix, for some reason), I’d say it’s possible that this strange property on the Scattershot may very well be unintentional, as well.
Alright, I think I’m starting to get the hang of this gun, now. I still think it’s hard to use - at least compared to the shotgun - but that’s nothing a little bit of dedicated practice can’t fix. …I hope.
The Scattershot does take some time to use properly, but it’s a great weapon in the right hands.
The weapon now fires in a fixed “X” pattern, making it more predictable compared to its Halo 4 counterpart. - Scoping in with the Scattershot will obviously tighten the X-spread, increasing overall range. - The Scattershot rounds can home in on nearby targets after bouncing off a surface. All Scattershots have this trait, with the Didact’s Signet having the strongest homing capabilities. Not the best tactic to use, but great for covering a retreat or finishing off someone hiding behind cover.

I find that is works well when you use it like a plasma caster. The rounds only home in after they bounce, so I find that walking with the cross hair pointed at the ground, and trying to bounce the rounds works effectively.
definitely not my weapon of choice. The projectile effect and its sound are so underwhelming, that it just adds to how bad it is. I really miss how it worked in Halo 4. The only exception is the didacts signant of course.
