A while ago, a made a thread asking if people wanted a scary part of the game. The thread was mostly focused on horror, like jump scares and scary-looking monsters and mysterious noises. I have come up with a new idea for a scary part. What if there’s a really hard enemy, like a giant Promethean, who will chase the player around the level, and it’s a constant game of cat and mouse. The giant enemy will occasionally disappear and reappear when you least expect it, maybe even have it so it appears in different spots each time. The enemy will be very difficult to fight and can kill the player easily, so you will be forced to flee, and perhaps fight the enemy in a special manner, like detonating fusion coils when he gets near them. This way, there is a constant sense of urgency and paranoia, which is a different kind of fear than horror.
Ooh, maybe there could be a part where you encounter a ghost town. Everything is foggy, and there’s this suspenseful music playing, like some of the music when you were the Rookie in Mombasa Streets on ODST. And occasionally you here an echoey laugh from a little girl. Occasionally you could see like trash cans or something being knocked over by some dark, skin-and-bone-type ape figure silhouetted in the fog or something of that nature. Can’t think of anything else to happen after all this so please feel free to add on.
Here’s something good music wise. Skip to 4:28
Halo isn’t really like that…
But once the flood makes its return i Hope for something like that. Obviously not an entire level dedicated to it. But a bunch of anticipation and suspense builds up and then BAM an infected spartan 4 tries to eat you up
This is Halo not Dead Space.
> This is Halo not Dead Space.
i forgot dead space was the first game to put scary parts in their games…
> This is Halo not Dead Space.
lol, i think the only scary part was the Promethean Knight revealing its face by roaring in chief’s face.
I’m thinking more suspense than scary. The Flood was suspenseful the first time you see it, but after that it’s not really scary or anything. With my god-enemy idea, I hoped that each time the player plays that level, he will be watching to see where the enemy will appear next.

I love that part,Dat roar!!!
I remember a Halo 2 mission playing as the Arbiter where you have to go down this elevator and your constantly fighting flood. (Right after the mission Containment I think?)
I thought this was a somewhat scary time in the game. Id like to see more nighttime flood encounters (If floods back, why not make them scary right?)
Walking through the Promethean infested halls of the UNSC Infinity and you have watch for every corner while waling through flickering lights and collapsing decks. No PV on this Mission.
slightly off topic
but I would flat out LOVE a Mona-Lisa style survival horror game set in the halo universe…it would give dead space a run for its money
Scary in Halo should be something like this: say it’s Spartan Ops and everything is going normal. You’re fighting Covenant, then Promethean A.I.'s yatta yatta yatta, when you get to a checkpoint where it requires all the players to be, kinda like in Resident Evil 5 when you have to open a special door in co-op where both players have to walk up to it and press B. So everyone’s there, and as soon as the last person gets there BOOM the floor collapses and everyone rolls down this HUGE thick dusty tunnel.
You all get seperated, and you each get only one random weapon you were carrying before. As the players try to make their way to eachother, they come across some dead bodies of the Covenant. At the main door where the players re-unite they hear distant howls. A dead body next to them is pulled by a tentacle sticking out of a huge hole in the wall. The howling gets closer and another door is being pounded on. The dead body comes back, standing up, no mutation yet. It looks up at you and drools brown and green liquid profusely as the pounding gets louder and dents start appearing in the door.
The body yells at you with all four mandibles agape when tentacles burst from it’s neck and mouth, and it’s arm turns into a large claw-like tentacle. It begins to attack and the door burts open with a new flood form that crawls on all four legs, has multiple eyeballs that are completely black and grow in random places, and the four of you are attacked by it, soon the bodies you saw earlier come back infected and try to kill you.

Everyone would bash it as a dead space knock off but yeah, it could make EA very nervous if it happened.

lay off the third person
use fp set pieces to increase the scare factor
add in halo’s basic game play with the added challenge of limited ammo and necessary body dismemberment or mass reduction
mix in awesome storytelling involving humans and covies alike
boom, EA is screwed
