I don’t expect anyone to have the answer to this, but what I really want to know is what the differences are between the Xbox One and “Scarlett” versions of Halo: Infinite will be?
Is it just graphics and load times, or is it more fundamental? Are there whole game modes that are only part of Scarlett version?
I guess I’m asking whether the Xbox One version will be hobbled in some form or fashion (or maybe limited) relative to the Scarlett version?
Which raises another question: If I buy the Xbox One version digitally, will I automatically get the Scarlett version if I later upgrade my console? (Because I have trouble seeing how I can afford a Scarlett console at launch). Or is this a game where they want you to double dip?
I’d just like some clarity here from 343 on where the two versions differ. Because if the Xbox One version is the crappier version of the game, I’ll just wait until I can afford Scarlett and play it then…
We’ll find out in time. I think it’ll be safe to say that Halo infinite on Project Scarlett will be the best looking and smoothest running version between the two Xbox consoles. They did say that frame rates up to 120 frames a second and 8k being a possibility with Project Scarlett so all we can do is speculate. Holiday 2020 is a long way off. E3 2020 will be when we learn all the details.
I would say they will be the same game and the Xbox One version will not be missing any features or modes compared to the Scarlet. The Scarlet will just include much quicker load times, higher FPS, and much greater graphics. Other than that they will be same game.
I was thinking the same. And after looking back at games like GTA V which released around the same time as the XBOX One and was available for both the XBOX 360 and XBOX One I would say it is safe to assume that the Scarlett version will be drastically better. I remember playing the 360 version of GTA V after playing the XBOX One version and being disgusted by how crappy the graphics were compared to the newer console. Now as far as the story and game itself I’m sure it will be the same game just the graphics won’t be too good on the XBOX One. Also they may stop doing updates on the older console after a while which would suck. All in all I’d say it’s worth it to save up and get the new console and Halo Infinite at the same time.

I could easily live with this outcome. Better graphics, higher framerate, quicker load times — that’s all expected. But if there are whole game modes that are only on Scarlett and not Xbox One, it will just feel like the 360/Xbox One debacle all over again, in which you can have access to a much worse version of a game that has a limited shelf life. I hope that’s not the case.
But, hey, if Microsoft offers the “Play Anywhere” across Xbox One, PC AND Scarlett, that would be amazing and make my purchase automatic.
if its play anywhere, ill be happy, I think they are doing this because:
halo is microsoft’s biggest franchise - Want lots of sales like ce with OG xbox - To do better than disaster xbox one pressAny feature id like is like if I buy infinite on xbox one, but if a get scarett later, I hope its not like where I have to buy infinite again but hope like can save it.
I hope the new Xbox version has new game modes and things compared to the Xbox One version, because the new Xbox is very likely going to be $500 or more. I think it would be such a slap in the face of people who buy a new Xbox to just get the same game with just better graphics and load times. Those things honestly are a dumb reason to justify a new system I think. Also some people would probably need to buy a new tv on top of the system and game if they really want to see the benefit of the better graphics.
But I think the Xbox One version should have the usual things people expect a Halo game to have.
