Scarabs?

Do you think we’ll finally be able to drive Scarabs in Halo 4?

Fans have been asking for this ability for a while, and I think 343i may actually allow us to do so.

I can see it happening, hijacking a scarab on one of those long missions

Would be fun. I’d be happy to just be able to fight one again though…

I thought of this because bs Angel hinted in one of the bulletins about us being able to operate large machinery.

My mind immediately jumped to the War Sphinx, but, since the Covenant is in Halo 4, I think that we’ll be able to operate the Scarab as well.

Hopefully not. I mean, I love them to death but the last thing I want is the Covenant species as the main enemy again. A similar counterpart for the new enemy would be more than welcome.

Hijack would be awesome but really I’d just settle for some more epic battles against them, I miss that a lot, I was really miffed when you didn’t get to fight the ones in the pillar of autumn mission, I think that was the right one… I dunno

Personally, I believe that the Covenant are going to be our allies, so a Scarab is welcome to me!

They aren’t the main enemy…

Sounds stupid if you ask me. It wouldn’t add much depth to gameplay other than a mission with tones of mind numbing explosions. You start driving scarabs and you just end up in COD territory.

Okay. How does this relate to CoD in anyway?

Nope, there is nothing that matches more with the spirit of halo than a big purple vehicle that shoots a lot of plasma

I meant I want some time off.

I’m still trying to figure out how his comparison made sense…

Sorry for the admittedly vague comparison. I meant it in the sense that COD’s campaign is simply a mindless walk and shoot fest. No depth. No tactics. No sandbox.

I think having a level with you controlling a Scarab would summate to a gameplay experience consisting of the latter three problems. With slow, limited movement there wouldn’t be much excitement to the gameplay other than “look ma, I got tha big gun”. The thing is just a big walking crab with one gun which would just be used to point and shoot. The graphical requirements would also mean you’d be stuck on a linear path – something Halo isn’t about.

I agree.

I wouldn’t mind fighting one again but only as a one time thing, I don’t want to be seeing them pop up every 3 missions after a cut scene or some very predicable and eventually boring scripted event. I’m not saying Halo 3’s events with it’s Scarabs was like this but that was Halo 3’s time, Halo 4 deserves it’s own.

I also know that we are going to be controlling some sort of massive machinery after Frankie hinted about it so I’m much more excited to see and hear about that than what I already know.

Scarab in H4, War Sphinx in H5, Dreadnought in H6.

The Dreadnought mission will revolve primarily around checking fuel cells, maintaining radio communications with Installation 07, and trying to not hit asteroids.

Agreed

I think we may have friendly Scarabs and be able to fully operate them. Controlling a Scarabs would be really fun, I’d be jumping in the air non-stop.

Edit: By jumping I mean the Scarab, not me myself.

I would like to be able to spawn them in forge as well

I would like to. But here is the problem. The Halo 2 Scarab is the only one that we would be able to pilot, and control. Because it has a command section to it. Remember the Halo 3 one is controlled by those Hunter Worms? So unless it’s like the Halo 2 one. I don’t see it being possible.
