I think 343i should change how the Scarabs behave (whether in H4,5,or 6) to make them act more sentient and anamalistic instead of like mindless, oversized sentry guns. All they do is just prance around in place and cant help themselves when you get too close. I believe it would be more of a challenge if they acted like their hunter counterparts ( aggressive and can easily defend themselves)
Yes.
This make absolute sense. Considering the fact that they’re controlled by a colony of Lekgolo worms, they should appear more animistic and sentient instead of animatronic.
Seeing as Hunter-worms are actually living inside and controlling them, they should be sentient.
Though to be fair, in Halo 3 the Scarab encountered initially did rather fiercly climb about when it entered the area, and try to trample/stomp or blast you, once it had its eye fixated on you, not to mention turn about. Why a Scarab doesn’t have a belly/lower plasma or needler cannon is beyond me. Probably for the sake of being beatable by the good guise.
I noticed one roar in the assault on the Citedal in H3. It didn’t make a noise, though, so it looked sort of awkward. Just wiggled its head around. They need to actually make sounds.
Huh. Soon as I thought of that I saw a Scarab doing the Godzilla roar.
I think it’d be pretty hard to make it behave differently. Normally I’d approve of this but the Scarab is unlike the other AI. It’s much less versatile.
Only thing I can think of right now is getting them to pounce on the player. They seem springy and athletic. Why not let them jump and intentionally crush us with their massive weight? The area of effect would be 10x more cooler than what happened when the Scarab was destroyed in Halo 3 and ODST.
I agree that they need more aggression. Halo 3’s wasn’t good enough. They were often reluctant to follow you outside of The Ark and were easily distracted by allies. On the other hand, I found it kinda annoying that the Scarab often singled me out.
I think Halo 4 will be limited to putting them into scenarios involving things like the mech (which would really change the way we fight them though that may become stale). Hopefully there will be more uses for them.
Approach should be much more different than before, now that we have the Jetpack which could make boarding a cinch. I found approach in Halo 3 to be ridiculously easy. Convenient ramps on The Ark and on The Covenant, minimal resistance from the crew. The only one I had difficulty with was The Storm since using the crane method just makes the Scarab back away at the last second and missile pods can take forever.

Yes I agree that was much needed. It should be like this.
A major flaw the Scarab had was that it did not move at all when you were right in front of it.

It appeared to be roaring but it’s more likely it was just getting the snow off of it. Or just coming to from the impact. Or it’s just trying to be cuddly. 0_0
They ought to roar though. It could be a non-damaging knock back effect that repels vehicles. I found the Scarab in Halo 3 to be incredibly annoying since it easily flipped light vehicles with it’s cannon. I think a roar effect would be much more preferable and intimidating.
I think you should HAVE to board it to destroy it. The armour should be able to protect it. You should have to fight through corridors and rooms of covenant before reaching the room where you have to blow up the scarab.

Exactly what I think. In Halo 3 you were supposed to go “Aw, crap!” when you see them, but after the first fight I was just like “Sigh Alright, let’s get this over with Shoots legs, hops on board, blows core, jumps off, bleh”
It needs to be much bigger and more complex. A small hangar with Ghosts and a Wraith, barracks full of Covie weapons, and a control room with a Zealot commander flanked by high-ranking Elites that you must go through to get to the core.
If Scarabs ain’t getting no belly-mounted anti personel/light vehicle weaponry, they should instead replace the inner command-centre with a small drone-hive and have drones spill out in swarms from the Scarab, harassing or carrying away - Rocketlauncher carrying/chaingun manning marines riding on mongoose/Warthogs. Eitherway, drones would certainly combine nicely with Scarabs.
Scarabs are the AT-ATs of the Halo universe, either buff em or make sure that UNSC vehicles cannot stand up against them, as nicely demonstrated in Halo 2. :>
Because this new, Wapanese/Anime Mech - Mantis is lookin’ scareh.
So I take it Scarabs are confirmed to be in Halo 4? Did this come from the campaign stuff? I haven’t watched any because I’m worried about spoilers…
In my opinion the solution is simple, change them back to how they were in Halo2 but with a few modifications. Imagine the scarab engaging groups of hornets and falcons with the three massive guns on the roof, now that’s a firefight. The large gun may have to be nerfed depending on playtesting. Turrets (manned by enemies) could be placed on the side of the scarab and the inside could have fuel canisters or control panels which could be overloaded or destroyed to blow up the scarab. Furthermore the underside of the scarab could be sensitive to tank shells and other explosives and the three guns on the top of the scarab could also be destroyed.

Exactly! In Halo 3, I just shot the back of it and it’d blow up; I didn’t even need to board it!

Perhaps making the scarab from Halo2 the standard scarab and the one you suggested could be a super scarab. It could be two or even three tired with a vehicle hangar in the bottom , the core on the middle deck and the control deck being on the top. It would be great to board it from above, fight your way through two decks of high ranking elites and then escape via a ghost you grabbed in the hangar.
Was it just me that likes the halo 2 scarabs to the other ones?

Agreed.
Halo 2 had the numbers (though not all at once) and somewhat decent combat space (at least on the deck) but it was inconceivable that there could be so many Covies coming out from within.

So much nostalgia in this post! Agreed!
CE T&R hangar, Metropolis weapons cache, Crow’s Nest motor pool Brute pack

I can just imagine it’s alien appearance. This would be taking a very well done aspect from Reach might I add (the 2nd AA gun was guarded by Drones and it was pretty hard to get out of there alive).

Now that’s creativity!!
I didn’t like how the 3 Scorpions on The Ark couldn’t damage the Scarab and how they just stood there firing futilely and taking minimal damage from the Scarab (they can take so much damage it’s unbelievable). I hope Halo 4 Scorpion pilots will have the decency to keep moving so I can actually consider them threatened.
