I’ve seen and heard many of people clamoring at the idea of adding a scarab into multiplayer, however I feel that adding it to matchmaking, forge, and customs would be nearly an impossible task.
There is, however, one way that a scarab could be used: firefight!
The only thing that would be necessary to change physically is the map size. Create firefight maps that are expansive enough for a scarab to freely navigate, and we’re in business.
In Reach’s firefight, the last wave of any set is a dozen or so Elites, all strong and armed with various heavy weapons. But what if each final wave is a scarab? It doesn’t have to be the final wave of each set, perhaps the final wave of the third set, or perhaps the bonus round? If you’ll notice, on the first and final waves of each set in firefight, enemies are dropped off via Phantom. The Phantom glides over to your area from behind a hill, mountain, etc. Instead of having a Phantom come, on the last wave have a Scarab climb over the hill and into your area. Wouldn’t that be awesome?
So sort of a pseudo boss wave? I like that idea, but I can imagine it being hell for those who enjoy playing Score Attack (If it ends up in Halo 4) occasionally, although that could be easily rectified by a separate playlist.

Yes, I was actually thinking of it as a “final boss wave” at the end of firefight. It would be limited to certain Firefight playlists, however if we did it alone in Halo 3, we can do it alone in Score Attack! Even though that would suck.
However, to reduce the need for separate maps, all the firefight maps must be able to incorporate the Scarab, as well as play fine without it.
Well as long as they supplied us with an ordinance drop akin to the ones currently in Firefight (though in the boss waves instead of the beginning) it shouldn’t be too bad.
For example, they give us enough Rockets/Lasers to temporarily incapacitate the Scarab maybe 2/3 times, that way it will still be a challenge due to limited amount of firepower, but still leave some leeway for those who can’t take it down the first time.
I wouldn’t want every Firefight map to be large though, I actually prefer some corridor fighting akin to the maps in ODST.

Every FF map would need to be Forge world size to do this, I honestly don’t think the Halo AI is good enough for something like that. However I missed fighting them in Reach.
Also with The Covenant gone, Scarabs, which were powered and moved by the Lekgolo which are the orange worms that make up the Hunters as well. With no one holding the Lekgolo worlds hostage, they have no reason to fight.

I don’t think the AI would be too much trouble, think of it as taking the Scarab fights from Halo 3 and putting them into Firefight.

> Most people don’t realize that a scarab is driven by multiple people, not solely one person. This would be very hard to implement in matchmaking.
The thing is though, gameplay doesn’t equal canon. There was going to be a mission in Reach where you would control a Scarab that was cut for time. Clearly they thought it could be done.

I like to think that the Firefight gametype wouldn’t have to necessarily be held down by the canon.

I would assume it is, no elites where in ODST fire fight. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be cool, I mean I’m excited about the boss waves in Gears of War 3’s hoard. I just know Halo is big on sticking to canon for MM/FF.

The Elites didn’t have enemy AI in ODST. Firefight is like Multiplayer, it is not canon.
