"Scanned" Trailer in Halo 5: Guardians...

Start Cutscene

[Master Chief is captured and immoblized by the Didact]

Didact: Awaken… Warrior,

I beseech unto you a fascination, there has been few honourable equals, such decorum is unforeseen in your malignant race. You share the prowess and merit of only one other… a respected and driven individual, The Lord Of Admirals… but there is something different about you… a resistance still, curious indeed? No matter, I will know all your secrets…

[After scanning, the Master Chief struggles in his shackles. Didact discovers information about John]

Didact: Warrior… abandon your frail pursuits… you have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting… this temporary sovereignty is now at an end… you are defeated. My array is underway and soon you shall bear witness to its glorious fire, and the final judgement of your species’, long untamed sins. The composer was a mercy compared to what is to come… and once I am done with Humanity’s relentless -Yoink!-, I shall finally strip you of your possessions…

[Master Chief continues to struggle capture, Didact waves his hand to a monitoring device which approachs the Master Chief, and is now with in view]

Didact: Warrior… I have examined you precariously, wondering just what, or possibly how, you resisted composure… yet still without fruitition? But neither the less, I have learned a great many truths about you… it seems we share an affinity you and I… we are not that different. We are the last of our kind, I may have had a hand in your brothers and sisters demise… however… your ancestors started this feud, out of blindness and pride; we have both been accustomed to negligence and rejection from our proprietors, even against the parasitic fount… and we have been betrayed by our loved ones… so I ask you who will save you now, and where do you stand?

[Master Chief begins to waver in his resistance, considering what the Didact has to say]

Didact: It was a careless undertaking that we poetically fell like our precursor… and so I procure an offer, an agreement, to pertain from our soulless rivalry and disputes… against an even greater foe. I understand the qualms you would have… but you are a Dominus of your species… and so this would pertain to a greater good. This is but a request, not of slavery, but of preparation for the ensuing conflict… the Flood will return and we are in dire need of a force to oppose them… my Prometheans could easily quell the outbreak… however without insufficient souls, it is no use?

Reflect on what I have said… Time is against us… And war is now on the horizon!

[Master Chief stops struggle, and drops his head… in submission]

End Cutscene

It’s well written, but that’s way too much dialog for a trailer where it’s merely an interrogation. You can either show some flashbacks or some action during the scene, but that would also run the risk of drawing the attention away from the dialog, which seems to be the whole point of the trailer.

The scene would be extended somewhat…

sort of the halo 4 trailer with dialogue?

i think its very well written but i think it says to much about the plot for a trailer

I don’t think he’s talking about it as a trailer. I think he’s talking about it occurring as a cutscene in H5G.

I think it would be cool to have Scanned actually tie in to Halo 5 and be in the game.

well on the subject he wrote trailer…

Thats because the “Scanned” Trailer does not currently tie into any canon events… and is only a trailer at this stage; however it could of been a prototype of the Halo 5: Guardians cutscene…

I will say this during the events of Halo 4 and later Halo: Escalation… we discover the Didact is alive and well; is in possession of six new composers, via the Composer’s Forge, and Installation 03, Gamma Halo, and its index, from Ivanoff Station.

During the events of Halo Xbox One, now Halo 5: Guardians trailer, we see that John-117 is alone and what seems to be abandoned, or gone rogue… on the Installation 00, the Lesser Ark. Plus Frank O’Connor did state the cloak was to hide from something? Curious…

What if the Didact post Halo: Escalation defeats Blue Team, yet captures John-117… and eventually John escapes imprisonment yet is stranded?

my apologizes, i thought this was meant to be some sort of trailer

Whilst I agree this is a bit long/revealing of plot for a trailer, it would be AWESOME for a cutscene. We need more Didact Monologues. I love those things to bits. He’s brilliant, even more so if you know his backstory.

Come on! That line is taken word for word from the movie A Knight’s Tale.

Where in the movie? I don’t remember that.

> Where in the movie? I don’t remember that.

That line is used twice in the movie.

First time
Second time

Other than that minor issue, I think this idea is kind of interesting.

I know that line is taken from A Knights Tale featuring Heath Ledger… but it is such a charismatic and memorable line… and it works so well in this monologue.

Eeek. Is there anything else that isn’t original? Good catch on the Knight’s Tale part.

I am curious as to how this trailer fits into the universe though. When you think of all the Halo trailers, they all fit into the game somehow. For example…

Remember Reach explains Kat’s mechanical arm and the death of Noble 6.

Landfall shows how Chief’s landing was tracked and Johnson was able to meet up with him so quickly after falling to Earth.

Birth of a Spartan/Name Change both showed how Spartans were “created” and the hardships ODSTs were put through.

The only two that I can think of that are relatively unexplained are “Scanned” and “Starry Night”. Neither really fit into the games well.

A little nit pick but perhaps the two trailers are connected and somewhat relevant to Halo 5: Guardians.

What we know from the trailers;
Lets say in the Halo 3 “Starry Night” Teaser that the two children observing the stars are John-117 and Kelly-087, who were both Spartan-IIs and shared a close friendship, during their Spartan training and war efforts.

Lets say in the Halo 4 “Scanned” Teaser that John-117 is captured by the Didact during the intial stages of Halo 5: Guardians. He has flashbacks which could be the Didact attempting to learn a possible weakness of his new found foe. A unique few scenes shows John as a child, his augmentation into the Spartan-II Program, and a unlikely battle scene against Promethean with a Scatter shot.

What we know as canon;
The Spartan-IIs remained active after the events of the Human-Covenant War, and re-united on June 2557, during a mission on Gamma Halo. The incursion mission was to obtain possible intel on the sudden disappearance of Spartan Team Black… to which led to the discovery that the Didact, had survived the Second Battle Of Earth, when he fell through the slip-space fissure. [ref. Halo 4]

During the events ensuing, Spartan Team Blue are found to be battling the Didact for supremacy of Installion 03, to which John-117 manages to sneak up on Didact and wound him, via a combat knife to the eye. With this crafty yet foolish move the Didact grasps John in his large hand and begins to crush the Spartan-IIs helmet…[ref. Halo: Escalation]

How they relate to each other…
When the Didact begins to crush John-117, is his grip; Kelly-087 quickly throws John-117 her scavanged scatter shot. John-117 begins to fire precariously at the Didact’s abdomen attempting to wound the Didact, yet again… the Didact however shruggs the pointless shots off and throws John to the wayside, instead striking down his comrade, Kelly-087. Kelly-087 attempting to dodge the constraint fields is thrown into a boulder wall… which unfortunatelly kills her… proving the point that even she couldn’t dodge the Didact… The after effects, shows John as stoic yet somewhat shaken by this occurance, vouching relentlessly to never stop until the Didact is defeated; John-117 pursues the escaping and wounded Didact… abandoning Blue Team. The Didact manages to escape through yet another Portal… which leads to the Lesser Ark; but when John enters through it the Didact ambushes and constrains his hunter. During John-117s imprisonment and efforts of escape he begins to realize the value of his humanity and his sanity and stoic nature, somewhat dimish.

Post “Scanned” Trailer Cutscene
John-117 having escaped the Didact, due to the subtle efforts of Mendicant Bias, begins to return the favor by searching the sands of the Lesser Ark… however without any communication or support, John is stranded and alone on enemy soil…

Is it feasible? Sure. A bit of a stretch? Most definitely.

I’d be super disappointed if this was anything like the way it turned out to be in Halo 5. It would mean that again, you’d have to read every little thing that 343 released in between Halo 4 and 5 in order to understand what was really going on.

I’ve said it before but PRIMARY CANON and storyline needs to be the games. It’s poor story telling and a money grab at an expanding universe, sacrificing those that don’t have the time or the disposable income for everything outside of the games.

A bit off topic, but it boils down to the fact that maybe the “Scanned” trailer was simply meant to be promotional for the game.

Well that is why the entire “Next 72 Hours” Story Arc in Halo: Escalation, and possibly “Scanned” should be a cutscene prologue… to which opens the story from Halo 4. Leaving no gaps… or perhaps more importantly a Vidoc Trailer… summing up what has happened since Halo 4, a Vidoc Recap if you will.

A trailer though? Maybe you’re just using the wrong word, but unless it’s physically attached in the game for Halo 5, it should be left out.

I would have a problem with it if it was a prologue as well, because to cover all the John 117 events involved in between Halos 4 and 5, as well as introducing Locke would probably create a half hour prologue. Last we played, John was on board Infinity getting his armor removed. To have him leap from there all the way to wandering in the desert is a lot of time and explaining. There would either need to be an easier explanation, or no explanation at all where the players can safely guess what happened in between (such as Halo 2).

Although there were gaps between Halo CE and Halo 2 (how did Johnson get there? why does Chief have new armor?), most of the gamers conclusions were either inconsequential to the story, or easily explained to the closest extent of reality.

Imagine having to watch all the cutscenes in Halo 2 that are already in the prologue, on top of what happened to MC and Johnson in between CE and 2. That’s a movie in and of itself, and the resulting prologue between 4 and 5 would be similar in length. AKA, too long, unless you’re Michael Bay.
