Playing the tutorial honestly made me warm up to her more. She’s doing what she can to prepare people for an uncertain future upon hearing the news that Chief is MIA.
He didn’t start the discussion and it’s also not the place to be butthurt about taking orders from a sci-fi 7 foot giantess in a video game set in the distant future which is centered around “shooting space aliens”.
I like having the body type options because ever since 4 I’ve played with the female base since I’m not a walking meat slab and don’t feel the need to look like one in game. I just run heavier armor sets to cover that up a little more. Most of the time, no one even notices but it’s still weird to have a bunch of teens fawn over your character model when one of then finally notices your rear.
Having more than two options (A large and small for both Male and female proportions) would let people choose something that fits their IRL form and take away that bare bones association.
I’m kind of curious now. Are Spartan commanders only female?
Because the two Spartan Commanders I know of are Commander Palmer and the African American one who exerts no authority.
No male Spartan commanders?
How has this thread not been locked yet? I have seen much more productive threads get locked in a matter of minutes, the only reasoning I could come up with is the titles contained “female.”
She’s not a commander, she’s a trainer.
Carter.
Kurt and Jun were the mentors for the III and IV programs, respectively.
Chief and Locke are the leaders of their own teams.
Spartans have never really had full commanders, though. It wasn’t until the IVs came around with the set fire teams system that such a role was viable, and the only one we’ve seen there is Palmer on the Infinity.
Trans people have to constantly deal with the stress of defending their existence from people like OP who call them mentally ill. You’re fine with OP turning this forum into a space where they would have to deal with that instead of just being able to chill here and forget stressful things and enjoy talking about a game, but you draw the line at someone calling out OP for having offensive transphobic opinions? In other words, you think the problem isn’t the transphobia, but the fact that it was called out?
I don’t appreciate OP bringing up, I’m less appreciative of you making a huge spectacle out of it instead of picking a more appropriate place, where it might make a difference, instead of just draining the energy out of everyone because we hear about it enough elsewhere in the world.
This is a game forum, for a game, OP shouldn’t have brought it up, and you shouldn’t have added fuel for his meager flame, because now you both seem insufferable regardless of who’s in the wrong.
In case you hadn’t noticed, I was going to ignore it, because if I wanted to argue with people over trans rights I would have gone to reddit at the least, or a website dedicated to the support or adversity of it, not Halo, but I guess picking battles isn’t something anyone’s keen on anymore, and great job trying to make me a bad guy, really makes you look good, really makes me want to support your cause and back you.
I MEAN SERIOUSLY, WE’RE IN THE FEEDBACK FORUMS FOR HALO INFINITE, AND THIS IS THE HILL YOU WANT TO DIE ON? THIS IS WHERE YOU WANT TO MAKE AN ISSUE OF THINGS? WHERE IT WILL BE BURIED AND NO ONE WILL LEARN ANYTHING, the only thing anyone might remember is how annoying everyone who participated in this threads argument was, myself included.
TL;DR - While I have an issue with OP, I have a bigger issue with the dude who decided to play social justice warrior in a game chat, fail to be an adult, and make this experience more dramatic than it needed to be. OP is a random stranger, it’s not like people are going to flock to his opinion, it’s okay to ignore something so meager.
Whats wrong with giving people more freedom? so “keeping it simple” is keeping out more freedom for player expression because a few people are offended that people can have whatever body type and voice combo they want in a game? or that a guy thinks “the females aren’t female enough”? I don’t see the issue of having a body type slider and people “figuring it out for them selves” from there lol
Dude is 100% a troll, if not, I feel sorry for him
Well we either give people 2 clearly defined options and they make due.
Leave it as is, where they’re a little less discernable with whatever 3 is.
But a slider has been talked about before and wouldn’t really work and here’s why:
- What would the slider target specifically? Width of the muscles? doesn’t make any sense to go through all that effort when we have options 1 and 2 above.
- It would literally have to be 1 slider because any more would probably make it unbelievably hard for the team to have to mesh with all the cores, attachments, armor effects depending on how those work, and whatever else is connected to the skeleton
- Even if you had the slider, you’d still end up with option A or B regardless because you have to start with something and that’d be those body types, you’d just be adjusting those, and at that point, you’re focusing too much on the body and not just playing the game.
We’ve got Male, Female, and Mix right now, either we remove mix and put more emphasis on male and female or we leave it as is, anything else, is not simple, by a shooter game standard.
Edit: If you want freedom to customize your character, do it through the armor, no one is going to notice what your body type is regardless, you’ll get bagged in halo no matter what gender you are so the game doesn’t need to put any more effort into it when they have higher priorities.

Summary
I agree, though I’ll undoubtedly be labeled a bigot for doing so.
People who suffer from gender dysphoria obviously should be treated with kindness, as I’m sure it’s a tough thing to struggle with. But I don’t support transgender ideology, as it goes against my personal and religious beliefs. In my view, removing “male” and “female” body types and separating voice from body type is both unnecessary and a form of enabling. But of course, it earns woke points, or whatever.
I’m blown away this topic lasted as long as it did without being locked.
I actually put forward a cross slider in a previous post. PSO2 has one and works really well and scales the armour and clothing. I’d check it out and see what you think.
This topic should have been removed within 5 minutes of posting. This is fascist garbage and in Europe we are fed up with those who swallow these fallacies.
Fair point with PS02, but counterpoint, PSO2 is an MMO where roleplaying and character expression are far more important and prominent, and 343i should probably devote its resources elsewhere considering how rough the games reception already is.
Godwin’s law, ladies and gents. In a roundabout way.
Get your head out of your bubble, in Spain those who have this type of thoughts are directly the extreme right related to fascism that we have had here during our 40 years of dictatorship.
In this country we know perfectly well how to differentiate extreme ideologies, so stop “Godwin’s law.”
Man, Reach is so good.
I agree. I’d rather their efforts go to more important things, but it’s just an idea being put forward which could make everyone happy. Or just give us 3 options for each gender ranging from skinny, average and bulky. And 343 did say this new customisation was aimed at player expression which is also currently a joke.
