As a F2P game, Infinite’s top priority is player retention in order to sell cosmetics. Meaning 343 wants people to keep playing by providing a fun experience, but SBMM is the anthesis of long-term fun. When I play 5 games and do well, I will be matched for the next 10 rounds with MLG sweat lords. The result is measurable misery. Most casual players won’t put up with being crapped on constantly and consistently after they had a good day.
343, the sensible business move is to leave SBMM to Ranked where it belongs. I have recently complained about this already, but I couldn’t help to do it again, it is such a consistently terrible thing that makes me already resent a great game that is at its core very fun and mechanically sound. Nobody wants to constantly sweat their butt off, few will invest in a game that brings them more misery than joy.

SBMM is great. I’ve been winning more games and getting teammates that are better at the game for it.
Compared to day 1 and 2 where I was getting matched with potatoes and losing every game by a landslide.
Games like Destiny 2 that do not implement SBMM tend to have one sides stomp matches far more often than games that implement them.

The Destiny 2 experience you describe is my Halo Infinite experience. My team routinely consists of people playing with their feet and ignoring the objective while the opposing team is a bunch of pros hooked on GFuel.
SBMM is kind of important but what I think you’re referring to is very strong/strict SBMM.
SBMM has been a thing since Halo 3. It’s not going anywhere.
That can also result if a full team of 4 people is versing a team of solos.
Communication wins a lot of games. If people are not miced up you can’t give them a heads up or coordinate as a team too well.
Not necessarily an issue with SBMM itself.
I would be in favor of MM prioritizing solos with solos whenever it is possible.

Maybe I should have worded it better - you are correct, I didn’t have this problem in the MCC. It’s simply too harsh.
This may be a good solution!
