SBMM is WAY too strong

It is not fun to play when you go back and forth from doing really well to getting completely dominated. It happens like clockwork. Good game, bad game, good game, bad game. I don’t play more than one game a day anymore because of this. It’s not fun. You need to relax the SBMM on regular game modes at the very least if not remove it entirely except for in ranked where it belongs. Look up Mint Blitz’s experience with the SBMM in this game. It affects everyone, from beginners to the very top 1% of players. This is exactly why ranked exists.

I agree 100%. It gets old fast ! I limit myself to 4 matches a day now. Lucky to win 2 out of the 4 depending on team mates. Sbmm needs to go in casuals and tons of ppl agree.

That’s funny cause sometimes i feel like it’s too loose.

My last match last night had me going like 28-7 in team slayer and we still lost… Mind you, the players on their team weren’t very good either. They were doing things like popping out of cover with their shields down in a gun fight where they knew i was near full HP. Sometimes I’d see them knowingly man cannon directly towards me instead of using the one that would get them back on the map safely. Other times they’d charge at me around a corner knowing full well I had an OS on and they had no power weapons or backup.

My sample size should be large enough to where I shouldn’t be seeing players like this, but I still frequently do. Its hard to complain too much tho as id rather dunk on their entire team in a losing effort than go negative in a winning one, but I still feel bad that they have to endure such a poor matchmaking system. They shouldn’t have players like me in their lobby, but for whatever reason it still happens, too often. And what’s funny is, I’m not even that good… It shouldnt be hard for the system to find plenty of other players like myself to match me with.

Lower population doesn’t give the match maker a lot to work with.

It’s very sad.

Without SBMM you would probably be looking at 1 out 4 or less.

No it doesn’t.

And no, they don’t.

Anecdotally the main people who complain about SBMM are ranked high Diamond or above. And streamers. So we’re talking about part of around 5% of the population.

It’s just that they are very loud.

I imagine that most people in the middle or left part of the skill curve are either completely oblivious to SBMM or support it. And of those that don’t, most angst comes from playing with friends of wide skill ranges - which is almost a separate problem entirely.

You appear to be an exception to the rule. Which is interesting.

If you’re losing with that KD then 343 probably expected you to get more kills to win.

I guess so lol. I really could have used someone to carry me.

I just checked the match I was actually 25-7, I couldn’t remember. But one guy on my team was 2-18 and had a 16% accuracy. That’s like pairing a bare bottom bronze leaguer with platinum players. Its ridiculous. Imagine if Starcraft or Street Fighter did that. New players would start and quit the very same day.

Some of the more obscure match ups can be squads.

There are a lot of good players who like to have a run around with their less skilful mates.

And in those circumstances - don’t feel sorry for them. They chose the carry / survive dynamic. It’s the price they have to pay to play together.

That’s definitely a problem and you don’t fix it by making overall SBMM looser. Ranked already tightened up the maximum skill gap for match making. Social probably needs that tightened up a bit too.

The flip side is that the player base is quite low in a lot of regions and it may make it too hard to find matches.

It sure sounds like the answer to your problem is in fact tighter SBMM.

Yea. Idk it’s become so popular to ask for the removal of sbmm. My guess is probably streamers and top tier players crying that their streams are less exciting, so when it’s repeated often enough by players people look up to, it starts to sink in as this catch all fix for sweaty lobbies.

In reality, it’s statistically more likely that the removal of sbmm will lead to a far worse play experience than what most players are expecting. The data these companies have show this. Sbmm helps player retention, and removing it will cause more players to quit indefinitely.

Some people may not realize it but it really only take 1 or 2 onyx/high diamond players in a lobby to really tilt things for every other “average” player. Even high platinum might be enough to ruin it if everyone else is below them. These players will snowball the entire game. They’ll win early, get an advantage, and hold it.

So instead of having “sweaty” games it’s more likely the play experience will turn into a steamroll. I assure you, this will be even less fun than sweating in unranked playlists. So unless you’re confident that you’re a top 10% player, I’d be careful what you wish for.

And lets be honest, even if you are that player, I cant help but question your motives. Are you really concerned with the overall health and fun factor of the game? Or is it that you just want to dunk on plebs? Cause I have no sympathy for anyone who earns a super high rank, and then decides to sandbag and smurf just for the flex and a few highlight reel plays.

Bingo.

The majority of the people advocating for random based match making are high Diamond to Onyx players and/or Streamers.

They want to “chill” by playing opponents ranked way lower than themselves.

Remember that the average rank of a “random” team is Gold 6 / Platinum 1.

Yep.

In purely random teams - a mid Onyx player has 2/3 of their games with over 100 point advantages in team MMR.

That’s huge. I feel even smaller 25 to 50 gaps tend to lead to result blowouts.

Two such players teamed up have 2/3 of their games with over 300 point advantage.

Which produces a LOT of streamable content.

With two players, even if you rearrange the teams as best you can, you still end up with a 150 plus point advantage in over half your games.

There are people who genuinely haven’t considered the results.

But I’ve also had this debate with quite a few who know very well what they are wishing for. They are usually of the opinion that they have earnt the right to chill and relax in Social. And it’s up to everyone else to “get gud”.

Let’s stick to this year’s threads
