SBMM in infinite

If this game pairs me up with lvl 1’s I will just quit. And then 343 can figure out why.

I don’t care about co op or forge. But If this game doesn’t have fair/justice matching in multiplayer I will just quit. And no amount of bans or reputation will change my mind.

Rather drastic threat. We don’t even know what the final system looks like yet.

Felt. Consistently getting 20 kills in ranked Halo 3 slayer, and having 4 games in a row where a teammate gets legit 1 kill makes me want to break my entire desk and never touch ranked again. I can kinda turn a blind eye to it in BTB since there are no ranks, but it still isn’t fun for me to get 25 kills and still lose because 3 people on my team had less than 5. Here’s hoping.

I played the flight PvP in it’s last hours. Even sketch was sweating on Twitter.

It shouldn’t be this way. 48-50 . Or 14-50

Pit the sweat kids against themselves. The noobs againsts themselves. Do not mix them. It creates an unpleasant experience for everyone when you do.

Any form of matchmaking is dependant on the population available.

If there isn’t the population then the matchmaking has to start sacrificing ranks for time and pings.

Otherwise you need;

  • Tight SBMM in ranked - ideally both teams should be be made up of closely matched players.

  • Looser SBMM in social - a wider range of skills but evenly matched to both teams.

As for the flight. Even TrueSkill needs games under it’s belt to rank players. Close to 40 or so to accurately rank a single player in 4v4 (although it gets a fair idea in a handful of games).

I guess it depends.

If matchmaking is putting you into games with lower ranked team-mates… that is ok for them to score less than you. Providing the other team has a similar spread of ranks of course. Then it is game on. It’s up to you to score according to your rank plus try and help out your team mates as much as you can. Remember that part of your impressive scoring may be that the opponents have damage sponges on their team as well.

But, if they are similarly ranked to you and are just performing badly… that sucks.

Yea, and for what it’s worth, I never flame the people with awful kill death ratios on my team. I don’t know why they aren’t playing well and it’s none of my business anyway. It normally doesn’t bother me, but I do hate losing like 5 matches in a row when I personally am going like 26 and 8, you know? And by no means am I some pro player haha, I won’t pretend I am, it just grates sometimes.

What’s wrong with a 48-50? That’s how matches should be, that means the teams are matched properly that games are that close. It shouldn’t be blowouts or significant margins of trailing.

The fault is if one guy or maybe 2 are carrying the team. It’s not even. Even on his own team.

If the game is 48-50, the system is doing its job. The goal is to get the games close, not to make sure every player on the team is equal. Matchmaking usually prioritizes search time so it’s much faster to create an average skill across players than to find 8 exactly skilled players. That’s not even getting into fireteams that go into MM with skewed teams.

On top of that, people’s performance varies over games, so a single game isn’t really telling you much about the player’s skill or how close the matchmaker made the game.

Any SBMM is trying its best to get equal teams for both sides at all times. Like any system created by humans, its not going to be perfect and sometimes you’ll get matches that are unfair. Also if SBMM is doing its job correctly every match should feel decently difficult since you are going against players that are technically your skill level. Like others have said, people can have off or bad games as well, so they may very well be on your skill level but just having a bad game. All you can do is try your best and hope that everyone else is as well. There’s only so much that you can control.

Not at all. You’re getting carried. One side or the other.

I shouldn’t have to carry a lvl 1 in Halo wars 2.

Ok. So I will just quit and you will lose. Either way they set you up for failure too.

It’s impossible to have even games, Every game would be a tie lmfao?

The teams should be even.

That is justice.

Not pairing me with the game pass kid who has no idea what is going on. And who will eventually be on your team down the road anyways

But if the opposition team has a ‘game pass kid’ on their team as well… isn’t justice being served?

Spot on.

The SBMM does the best it can with the population it has to work with. Hopefully Infinites will be large and fruitful.

And as you said… no system is perfect. The players may be evenly matched in regards to skill (MMR) but that doesn’t mean they will gel as a team. Putting four specialist snipers together on a close quarter map with no sniping rifle will not bode well. And nothing replaces a team working together with call outs and knowledge of each others strengths and weaknesses.

TrueSkill2 does try and adjust… making squads that are performing well play against harder groups of individuals.

Yeah with MCC for reference I’m always paired with at least two newcomers who seem to have never played… I usually search solo and regularly have a K/D above 3+ in Social and win often with more than 20-30 kills with teammates going -20/30 combined. The games are still within 10 kills and it’s evident that the SBMM is working as best it can with the very limited population. Given that Infinite is free to play and the population much larger I’d expect that SBMM will offer a more accurate experience over time. It won’t be perfect… Veteran Halo Players may still crush others in Social for instance because matchmaking times can’t go on forever looking to find perfectly matched skill levels… but I’d expect Ranked to be a lot more accurate, we’ll see.

> Ok. So I will just quit and you will lose. Either way they set you up for failure too.

That seems to be a pretty radical option to what I was saying. It is true that quitting or someone being bad on the team does not set your team up for success. I agree that having a person not carrying their weight on the team is incredibly frustrating. Its not fun to be the best player in your team or in the lobby and still lose the game. But quitting the game is different than a player trying to play the game. Sometimes you have people trying their best but sometimes the other team is just better. I will take a player trying their best over someone just leaving right off the bat because they don’t want to deal with something they think is unwinnable.

If you want to circumvent the Matchmaker, get a team to play with, otherwise you’re stuck with what the MM gives you.

Furthermore, an MM system doesn’t look at a player and goes “hmm, I suspect this player is that good”. You need matches for it to figure out how good you are, relative to everyone else.
If you get matched up with what you consider worthless players, it’s one of three things.

A: Extremely low current population, matching everyone with everyone.

B: Fast search time prioritised, it doesn’t care who matches with who ( close to social )

C: You’re not performing good on a consistent basis for the MM to match you with better players, i.e, you’re not as good on a consistent level as you think.

Everyone going in solo will have an equal chance of getting any type of player they don’t want on their team.
I did a ten game test run, had two games where one or more of my team mates quit. Had two games where the other team had one or more quitters. All instances leading to victory for the full team.
