It’s ordnance, not a loadout weapon. So, sorry to be a killjoy, but it’s really not.
Doubtful would the SMG (Halo 3/ODST) versions be considered ordnance weapons?
I am not sure how a SMG (Sub Machine Gun) can be replaced by a LMG (Light Machine Gun). 
You can call it a replacement if you want, but it is just a new weapon.
It’s not really a replacement, but it sure does look amazing!
It does seem like it fills the gap left by the SMG in a way, since it’s an automatic weapon with a large clip which shoots really fast and excels in close range combat. However, it seems that the SAW has a longer effective range than the SMG from past games.
It’s a machine gun and it’s not the AR. I don’t like the AR, and I just want a machine gun that I can play with that I actually like using. This’ll work.
it is a replacement. If you look at the way it functions and not at, “OMG ITS AN LMG”, you would see it is a replacement.
ITs just an SMG that does a lot of damage to make it fit into a game where duel wielding is not an option. An SMG in a game where theres no duel wielding is useless… so to make a game where everygun is useful in the sandbox… they have to beef it up.
So basically… its a strong SMG. Or in other words… Reskinned as an LMG
So do you think 343 will reveal the SMG as being in H4? I doubt it, having both the SAW and SMG seems unnecessary to me. The way I see it, the SMG is associated with dual wielding, which H4 doesn’t have, so instead of bringing back theSMG, they made a new machine gun that’s powerful in single wield. The design of the SAW isn’t really based on the SMG, but the gun serves a similar purpose, and fills the same niche. I’ll continue to miss theSMG, but this works for me.
Not really. The SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) is more of a support weapon rather than an individual weapon like the SMG. Their roles are going to be vastly different.

I would think it far from it. The SMG, like the name implies, is a submachine gun. It fires a low caliber bullet at a high fire rate. It is also small and compact for close quarters combat. The SAW, or Squad Automatic Weapon, is a light machine gun. It fires a much higher caliber bullet, but still at a high fire rate. But, the SAW is large and heavy, more favorable to suppression or heavy support against enemies.
Yeah, that thing is more of a heavy gun or LMG than a SMG. If they bring back
the actual SMG, then they would also have to bring back dual wield…
It’s definitely not the SMG’s replacement. Sorry to burst your bubble. I don’t know why you’d be happy about that anyway. I’m sure the SMG is in Halo 4… they just haven’t revealed it yet.
The SAW is going to have to be earn through ordinance or random weapon drops. So it will be a weapon that you have to earn. It’s not a freebie weapon.
The SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) is better for support, anti vehicular, and anti personnel combat. the only thing similar to the SMG is the deep clip and the fast fire rate… The SAW, is a Light machine gun, portable turret essentially. used for support gunning. while the SMG is a personal Sidearm much like the pistol or the spiker in H2/H3. if anything if an SMG is implimented it would be a secondary weapon, not a primary. but seeing as info of the UNSC weapons has already been released. i doubt that the SMG will be implimented as a secondary. let alone a primary. The SAW is not an SMG replacement… Its the midpoint between an AR and a Minigun Turret.

It’s still a machine gun, it’s still different than the AR, and I will still get to use it from time to time. No matter how much you try to buzzkill me, I’m still satisfied using the SAW in the absence of the SMG. of course I won’t try to just use it the same as an SMG, I’ll use it like the SAW. I’m just happy that there will be an MG that I will get a chance to use, that I will like using.

We’re supposed to have a lot of secondaries, so I’m hoping they introduce a new weapon, like a Machine Pistol, that acts like an SMG with very short range.
