Halo weapons are and have always been very unique and different from each other. Each weapon has an advantage and disadvantage that allows for what makes the game fun. You have various ways of killing your enemies and learning to master every weapon is vital for success. The thing about Halo’s weapons is that they come with tradeoffs to balance the game and make it require some skill. Think about this in basic terms like the shotgun vs the sniper, in which the shotgun is better close range and the sniper long range. The unique weapons, usually called power weapons, all have a specific skill or trick you need to learn in order to use them effectively, and on top of that, can be very situational. But the starter weapons are the same. There are (obviously) situations in which wielding an assault rifle or battle rifle is actually the better option.
This is very evident except for the SAW. The SAW is pretty much an upgraded Assault Rifle. There is no unique trick to wielding it. It does more damage and carries larger magazines. Im not trying to say its game breaking, but its just a rather dull power weapon, and think its an interesting thing to think about when it comes down to it.
The machine gun turret was already a good weapon for this automatic usnc power weapon type. The good? It doesn’t need to reload and can do massive amounts of damage (Well maybe not in halo 5 since machine gun turrets now suck, especially when mounted). The bad, the tradeoff, or the trick? It was heavy. It requires you to move around much slower. This was great design for Halo, as it takes a little getting used to, but when learned how to use properly and in the right situations, became very fun and effective.
so yeah, just something to think about
I think it fits just because we have so many weapons today that fit under the same catagory it made no sense that we only have 99 ars and pistols but nothing also sharing that catagory smg didn’t fully fit because its the close range auto while like you said saw is like an upgraded ar

Cough Redundant Plasma Rifles Cough Cough
The SAW, in both H4 and H5, requires burst control to efficiently use the ammo. One can unload freely in CQB, but to get efficient use out of the weapon, it must be, and is used, in a skillful manner.
A video showing how in H4, uncontrolled use of a SAW is not recommended).
A turret, was and is sluggish in movement. Warzone gives us speed boosts to maybe use, but it’s a slow moving, anti-vehicle weapon that doesn’t hold up as well in the flow of combat with jetpacks, clamber and sprint (H4&5).
To top all, a well placed 'nade and headshot beats any and all fullautos, when timed with skill.
And while I do agree with the sentiment that the weapon-type the SAW represents can lead to overpowerd gameplay, the way both H4&5 have treated it has been a real treat.
It’s a VERY powerful fullauto in the hands of a player pulsing like a Carbine (if they’re staying on target), and in H5, it looks just freaking awesome to use the “scope”.
If you’re afraid the weapon instills too much power into the psyche of the user, I would say, “that’s because it’s so fun to use.”
Note: The Answer requires much less finesse to pwn with. I find it dominating but less fun.
I don’t see what’s wrong with it. It doesn’t have crazy range and it is a power weapon and if you were unaware light machine guns do exist and serve their purpose don’t see why they wouldn’t in the future…
The SAW is my favorite new weapon introduced in Halo 4, don’t bash it!
well the SAW in h4 was ridicoulusly OP and they tuned it down in h5 for good. It also looks and feels very ‘haloish’

It kind of reminds me of the SPNKR due to how big and bulky it looks as do many of the Halo weapons. It gives them a sort of charm that you don’t see in many games.
75% of the weapons in this game are completely redundant and it’s the SAW you’re concerned about? Ok, dude. Sure.
Halo - Saw = No The Answer.
Get it ?

Really, halo 5 has the best weapon balance out of all the games. Its not just BR, shotgun, sniper and rockets like nearly every game has been.
Even stuff like the boltshot, storm rifle and needler are good in situations.
The only stuff I would really consider redundant is the stuff added post launch (SPNKR, H2BR and grav hammer) and maybe the light rifle. The rest all has a good place on the sandbox.

I repeat myself.
The SAW is perfectly fine. It has a terrible reload time and you’re not a god with it. You still can die. Plus, it’s not prevalently featured in Arena…so there’s plenty of room in the Warzone sandbox for it.
It’s a weapon that takes little effort to use and has little in the way of actual downsides.
But I’m not really concerned about it, as it’s a fun little overpowered gun that can just stay relegated to Campaign and (more) casual modes like BTB.
I’m more concerned about the weapons that aren’t actually supposed to be stupidly overpowered yet fall into that category anyways.

Slowing aiming and movement speed would make sense for the weapon. Give it a suppression role instead of a more powerful AR role.
SAW’s recoil is very strong. If you just hold the trigger down, you will lose the control of the weapon. btw, i still think The Answer is a little OP for a rare level 6 Req, considering the enemy don’t have any time to react.

i think the SAW fits in perfectly, it is a great weapon and the downside of the weapon is it takes a while to reload, i get killed all the time when i reload
It’s a futuristic Tommy gun. It’s supposed to fill you with bullets quickly.
But the SAW is The Answer to everything
