Saving your Marines in Halo games!

For some reason, whenever I go back to play the Halo games, I always protect the Marines and carry them throughout the level with me. I hate seeing them be killed by the enemy, because they’re so likable and they provide me with a sense that I’m not alone. Of course most of the time I have Cortana, but she can’t provide covering fire for me. This is the reason why on the level Gravemind, I’m so protective of the Marines I rescue, because it’s on High Charity, an alien mother ship where everything wants you dead.

In levels like Assault on the Control Room, Metropolis, Sierra 117, Tsavo Highway, and The Ark, it feels empowering to search for and unite Marine squads to build my own small army to strike back against the enemy to show we aren’t taking any -Yoink-. Especially to equip them with powerful weapons.

To me, there’s a definite sense of badassery in teamwork against perilous odds. What about you? Do you like to unite the Marines? Or stick them with 'nades and watch them run like a chicken and blow up the rest of the squad?

I’ve always felt like this too, especially in Reach.

Marines are my battle bros…battle bros for life.

I love to try and protect them. I always like to imagine the ones we come across are a part of the UNSC’s Delta Force in every branch…

As long as they’re not running me over, driving me off a cliff to oblivion, betray me with a grenade, kill me while I walk over a body that they’re shooting with my shields down and I happen to die from their shooting, etc…

I like to save marines but they do so easily… if only I could use voice commands to tell them what to do. get on jailer.

I try to keep the marines alive as long as possible, but it’s hard keeping an eye on all of them at once… :frowning:

I like to see how far I can go through the level keeping the Marines alive.

Played Infinity last night on easy trying to keep them alive for forevas.

Same here. 343 Guilty Spark is probably the hardest I’ve tried. I think the best I have done was to save 4 marines on that level to the end.
I once set up a good fight on Tip of the Spear. I took with me the first marine on the level and the other 4 from the station to the battle on the second AA. 13 marines, a Falcon and me against 2 Wraiths, 2 Hunters, Drones… Poor 360 couldn’t handle the framerate properly but it was an awesome fight.
I managed to save all the marines on Hacksaw, but I had to block the entrance with ghosts. Gave rocket launchers to all of them, so those zealots couldn’t stand a chance.

On certain levels (specifically flood levels), I get an uneasy feeling when all my marines are dead and I just feel alone and scared. Although lots of times in flood levels you have no/few marines anyways but I defiantly try to protect them in flood missions

You just increased the replay value of the Halo games. Going to have to go and replay some campaigns to try and save as many marines as possible now!

I try to save them the best I can, I noticed that mostly die from enemy grenades.

I tried over and over playing Truth and Reconciliation on Heroic recently to keep just some of my marines alive after boarding the Covenant ship. Those poor buggers didn’t stand a chance.

I personally got fed up with trying to save them on Reach due to their charging, and shooting/nading me.

Was fighting a brute team on…that mission Reach where the ODSTs show up…I gave one a rocket, the brute was on a pillar of some sorts, and his team, me , and my bro were in front of him…HE BLEW US ALL TO BITS AND MADE US RESTART!

Just to add on to that list, they are by far the worse and dumbest drivers I ever seen!! If they driving are a Warthog or something with me riding in it, they drive off the edge of a cliff. Or in Halo 1 when they run you over with a ghost and had to go back to the last checkpoint.

This is why I only use them as meat shields, ammo holders, and leave them for dead every time, even on Legendary.

From Halo CE to halo 4 I tried saying as much marines as possible. But now I just don’t care anymore. But halo 5 and future halo’s I will try

I gave up on that along time ago. I would love to keep them all alive but it’s just a waste of time and when you get really far and then they all get mowed down it’s just heartbreaking and I don’t think I could go through that anymore times :frowning:

Yes, I’m not alone! =P I do that a LOT on Gravemind, for some reason I always like being with someone else on that level. It’s probably the most fun in CE, though, since they are the most marine-like IMO.

oh man I feel bad, I love to kill the marines, just melee the -Yoink- out of them, it’s so funny, specially when they’re standing still. I only let them live when I need them for a gunner in the warthog, otherwise they’re also my target evil laugh

Ever fought the Spartan IV’s in Halo 4? Such a challenge.

I think Kat won that award a few years ago.
