I spent the better part of an hour yesterday trying to figure out how to save films to my fileshare.
In the “My Files” menu it gives you an “upload to fileshare” and “save” option for both custom maps and gametypes, but no such option for films. Also, if you look at another players fileshare the “films” category is blacked out and cannot be selected.
It looks to me that films are only recorded in your “recent games” menu where only the 12 most recently played games are watchable. This would seem to indicate that you can’t save films permanently.
I’ve created this thread desperately hoping that I’m wrong. If anyone can correct me, or demonstrate how to save films, I would greatly appreciate it.

Apparently if you record a film in theater, it just records it through the Xbox One’s DVR. So there’s no dedicated spot for them in your fileshare.
And I don’t even think there’s an option to save a whole match. Just a clip. I might be wrong, but that’s how it was looking.

Oh, man. I can overlook matchmaking being a bit bumpy during the first days or weeks, but without theater I really have no urge to play.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, because I locked in at least 10,000 games in each Halo game, but I might return my Xbone and the MCC if this isn’t remedied. That actually hurt me to type.

That would cost money I just don’t have. I already sunk nearly $1000 into the MCC for an Xbone, new headset, a monitor, Kontrol Freakz, and an audio adapter.
I’m spent. Also, I’ve tried before, but have never been able to get a capture card to function while using a monitor. I’m too technologically… stupid.
Sorry to say, but Theatre isn’t a priority for 343i. Especially with the in-built DVR features of the Xbox One - they think you should just use the Xbox One DVR if you want to save something permanently.
Since they’re game-data, rather than video, Saved Films rely heavily on being able to load and run the exact version of the game it was recorded in to play-back properly. 343i want to do a few updates to the MCC and those updates are going to break the play-back of older saved films. So you cannot save them permanently and you cannot share them.
I personally think this is a mistake, but that’s the situation.
Just ran into this issue myself. It’s nice to know that it wasn’t just me going crazy but I wish 343 would fix this. It’s been a staple of the Halo games since Halo 3.

To each their own…but my head cant fathum what you just said, I mean yes theater is huge and is an important feature, but man youve got to elaberate more as to why because theater is missing, you have no urge to play, this does not compute

If you have an Xbox One that has the Kinect, you can either say “Xbox, record that”, or double-tap the Xbox Guide Button and press “X”. The clip will be temporarily saved to your Xbox One’s DVR (which you can then upload to your One Drive which you sign in with your Live account and then download to your PC).
yes this feature is missing…add it to the LONG list
XboxOne DVR isnt the same, the qualities worse and you cant add it to your file share, nor can you save entire matches, just the 5 minutes limit on the dvr
Saving films in Halo’s theatre and saving clips with Xbox One’s DVR are two totally different things. When you save a film in Halo you’re saving the entire match not just a screen recording. You can scrub though the match in extreme detail. You can free-cam though the map, zoom, see the match from other players perspectives, control the playback speeds and take screenshots. The clips you record with the DVR are just screen recordings. DVR clips are cool for sharing with your friends really quick but, when you want to actually review a match it just doesn’t compare to Halo’s theatre. Temporary films do still get saved in your “My Files” folder but, the problem is that the ability to permanently save films has been removed. Just because Xbox One can save 5 min. screen recordings doesn’t mean that 343 should start chipping away features from Halo’s Theatre. It’s never good to see widely used features go missing. It makes me feel like 343 is being a little careless with Halo’s more peripheral features.

Man, I love Halo, but I absolutely HATE 343I and I absolutely HATE microsoft. These people are completely incompetent and are slowly destroying what was once an awesome franchise.

343i, if you dont read what this guy said, your the biggest ball sucking piece of giant crap company that took over the Halo franchise. You guys took out a core feature that Bungie created. I have never been so dissapointed for the original games to be tampered with and glitched upon, especially removing features. Why in the flying fuxk would you remove features???

lol dont do it!! That’s like suicide. A permanent solution to a temporary problem. Well, hopefully temporary and I suppose you could always buy another xbone when halo 5 comes out… But who wants all that trouble!

Or he doesn’t bother with halo anymore because it’s been taken over by a bunch of penny-pinching -blam!-holes. 343i doesn’t deserve to survive as a studio, don’t buy halo 5 to keep them afloat.
