At the weekend my Xbox sadly passed away after suffering the red ring of death. I’m getting a new one shortly and was wondering about the saved progress.

I accept I won’t be able to pick up exactly where I left off but will it be able to determine what levels I’ve completed on what difficulty from my live account or am I going to need to get the data transferred over?

Cheers

anything you’ve done online should be saved to your account.

It should know what levels you completed, however if you saved during a level, then you’ll have to restart that specific one.

All of your save progress is on your HDD, if your console gets the RROD all you have to do is move the Hard Drive from the broken console to the new one and everything should be back to normal. This is both the same for Phat and Slim Consoles. If you buy a Slim and had an older model xbox you will need a transfer cable.

If you are talking in regards to your rank on Halo 4 you will be fine because that is all server-side.

progress is connected to your profile so when you get the new xbox just recover your profile. as for actual mission checkpoint saves those would be lost. You could just get a data transfer cable or a large thumb drive/ex hd and move over all your data that way.

notes: if the xbox you are getting has the same size HD as the old one, just swap hd’s. If it has a larger drive and you want to use that, pop the old hd into the new xbox, copy any data you want to a thumbdrive/ex hd as mentioned above. then remove old hd from new xbox and insert new hd, then transfer saves from thumbdrive/ex hd to new hd on the new xbox.

if the original xbox you have is not one of the newer onces and cant just plug and play the hd’s try searching rrod tricks to atleast get your original working temporarily, then transfer as mentioned above.

Thanks everyone
