He didn’t die in Halo CE.

Johnson didn’t die as explained in the novel “First Strike” which takes place immediately after Halo: Combat Evolved.

Even if the book had never existed, we never actually saw Johnson die but were lead to believe that he did. For all we know it could have been him who locked the chamber again to keep the Flood inside.

exactly, somebody in another thread is trying to explain that since cortana doesn’t scan anybody when they blow up the ring, then that must mean johnson is resurrected in halo 2.

He never died. In the comic it shows him living. In the Legendary ending it was just an Easter Egg.
