It would be killing 2 birds with one stone since it would be giving ODST even more gameplay options while basically bringing firefight to halo 3 since both use the same assets and engine. That is if we never end up getting forgable ai. While they’re at it, they could give us human allies/ enemies to set in both ODST and reach as well as giving us back the energy sword and sentinel beam.
> >
> > I doubt they’ll give forgible AI, then we can make our own campaign levels, and if we can do that what will we need 343 for? We could already forge our own campaign. I don’t think it’s gonna happen.
>
> In all honesty, we do in fact need Ai in Forge now because adding Ai has always been in Halo since Halo 1 through mods but Bungie and 343 refuse to add the option to do so without modding. Heck, it took Activision tell Black Ops to add ai in multiplayer but Halo refused until Halo Reach firefight vs. Bungie even teased ai in their Forge developer commentary videos but key word is TEASED, not actually said they would. “What would we need 343 for?” Far Cry had adding ai in levels but still they add new games, Timesplitters added it in Futute Perfect and we are getting a new game sometime, Halo had a Custom Edition on PC and people added in modded maps but we still get new Halo games… So I honestly don’t understand why we shouldn’t have it.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t get it. I’m saying that we’re probably not going to get it.
Honestly I expected for the elites to get more attention after season 7.
The only things they added for elites in season 8 is butt armor and that the armor lights for the different armor match in the customization menu now.
I would really like some medieval looking elites. As well as them being playable in infinite. But 343 is really catering to the esports players, even assassinations weren’t safe from this. But I’m not that hurt by the loss of dual wielding and assassinations. I’m the most hurt about the loss of playable elites. And honestly I’m second guessing myself as to if they’ll ever be playable in infinite.
Personally I still stand by that Halo 3 did it the best, wasn’t perfect by any stretch, but I could play as an elite in all game modes and not have to play invasion or custom games just to play as one.

I hope they do at some point, but it’s 343 so I’m not counting on it till I see it. I’d be fine with just the armor that’s already in the game: mercenary, major, warlord, jegas armor, ultra if it’s in, and whatever other elite class is in the game maybe with some prosthetic customization too like jega.

Yes, the fact that Elites have been mostly forgotten already does makes me feel that they didn’t add the Season 7 Elite armours because they actually cared. Which is in fact rather obvious and I don’t know why it took this long for me to truly realise it. Otherwise, what took so long? If it really mattered to them, they would have put at least ONE armour set for Elites or some other meaningful content (not skins) when they first added new armour to Halo 3 in Season 5, or even earlier. For example, adding playable Elites to Halo CE for Season 2.
Clearly, the Season 7 Elite content was added only because a lot of people had been asking for it constantly, and 343 were hoping that by adding it, the Elite fans would shut up and go away…

Well we do have the samurai looking honor guards from halo legends: the baby sitter
But this is exactly how I feel. I’ll lookout to see if 343 will add them post launch once they finish the game thru dlc (makes me yak on the inside knowing they’re doing this again), but with my big 3 halo features not in at launch, I’ll be going back to mcc in a week tops

I’ll play it for the campaign, I’m not very hyped for the multiplayer. I can play Halo 3 if I want awesome multiplayer with Elites.

Has 343 ever talked about why they dislike elite players so much? I mean elites only had a season when it was the LAST content from online to pull (armor wise to my knowledge).

> Has 343 ever talked about why they dislike elite players so much? I mean elites only had a season when it was the LAST content from online to pull (armor wise to my knowledge).
It would require more effort to create diverse armor on a scale of what we have seen them do for Spartans in Halo 4 and Halo 5. It would also require them to make their Elites look attractive enough for players to want to play as. Since they redesigned the Elites to look like monsters in Halo 4, it would be unlikely that players would want to play as them.
Plus, gameplay wise you are a larger target as an Elite. Since 343 was made up of developer staff brought in from other studios where Pro League games were popular (Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, etc.), they deemed it unnecessary to make it so you were a bigger target to shoot at when wanting a more balanced game. Ever notice that the Elites in Halo 2 Anniversary are REALLY hunched over? That was done so the head is at equal height for Spartan and Elite, so accuracy weapons were easier to manage. In Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo Reach; the Elites stand a head or EVEN MORE above a Spartan.
(Halo Reach Size Comparison of Elite and Spartan.)
343 has their Elites in Halo 4 and 5 standing tall at all times unless using an Energy Sword. Whereas in Reach, the Elties do stand tall, but they maneuver swiftly and quickly in PvE. However in PvP, you are still a larger target. Bungie made it so Elites can heal their health bar naturally and not require med-kits, but that wasn’t really that much of a balance to begin with in a game where shields breaking usually means a couple more bullets and you’re dead.
343 does not allow playable Elites in their games for a few reasons -
Cost of making EVEN MORE armor assets. - The thought that everyone wants to be a Spartan because they are smaller targets. It’s kinda strange really, considering Halo 4 and Halo 5 take place AFTER the truce of Humanity and Sangehili.

thank you for the concise explanation, I guess that shouldn’t surprise me when they removed assassinations for the same reason then were surprised by the backlash.
I figure since from last years trailer it seemed that elites are back to standing like (and looking like) they did in CE, so one way could be to just shrink the model to match the spartans height like in 2A but without hunching just scale down. I know its not a good idea by any metric but I feel like 343 would be surprised at how many people would forgo that advantage of being a spartan just to play an elite even if just in socials.
Also i would 100% rather dev time went to elite armor then the good-but-not-halo armor we are getting in this season of MCC.
It’s also the fact that they never give us a clear answer. Just” oh not for halo infinite, but maybe in the future.” I’d rather them say outright that they’ll never put an elite in multiplayer again than keep stringing us along.

Assassinations and Playable Elites will eventually return. After all, they are planning to support Halo Infinite for 10 years. So a LOT of content will be added over time. Spartan Armors, Elite Armors, Assassinations, Poses, Visor Colors, A.I. Assistants, Playable ODSTs; the works.

They keep dodging that question for no particular reason. If a significant amount of a fanbase addresses an issue for as long as we have, than the producer should at least give a clear answer.
I suppose if they’re trying to keep it a secret they don’t have to answer, but how likely is that?

Since 343 was made up of developer staff brought in from other studios where Pro League games were popular (Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, etc.), they deemed it unnecessary to make it so you were a bigger target to shoot at when wanting a more balanced game. Ever notice that the Elites in Halo 2 Anniversary are REALLY hunched over? That was done so the head is at equal height for Spartan and Elite, so accuracy weapons were easier to manage. In Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo Reach; the Elites stand a head or EVEN MORE above a Spartan.

However in PvP, you are still a larger target. Bungie made it so Elites can heal their health bar naturally and not require med-kits, but that wasn’t really that much of a balance to begin with in a game where shields breaking usually means a couple more bullets and you’re dead.

True, we are gonna get all these things eventfully… Though I hope they do go forward with it.

Halo Reach, 2, 3 had playable elites and it was still a Spartan Story. But it’s been long overdue for years now and at this point I feel they should return in Infinite. To be honest, I see no excuse to have them excluded from a story aside from just having them as enemies to shoot at. Are we forgetting that most Elites are allied to humanity through the Arbiter and the Swords of Sangheilios? Seeing the campaign from the recent Xbox Showcase, humanity could use some assistance with taking the Banished. They are long overdue and having them playable IS player expression. What if the player doesn’t want to be part of the Spartan Story and instead wants to be an Elite? Since these Elites look better than the ones from Halo 4-5, it will be a missed opportunity to bring in more players to Halo that liked playing as our alien friends from Reach, 2, and 3. The one thing that would benefit 343 is getting more players by adding them in. I see no excuse excluding out of Infinite. Possibly in Season 2 or 3 they could be added in. As long they get the same love and treatment the Spartans are getting.
Any thoughts? And if 343 sees this, it will essentially bring in more players to Infinite, new and old.

I agree wholeheartedly, Elites should be there. Not necessarily at launch, but they should be there nonetheless. The Infinite Elites look amazing so I really hope we get to play as them farther down the line.
As far as the campaign goes I don’t even see how they could make the campaign without Arby and the Swords of Sanghelios, as they are some of the most important characters in the franchise right now.

I agree completely, I actually said something similar myself some time ago about the spartan story thing. I think Halo 3 is the most prominent example…it is absolutely a spartan story, yet it is here where the Elites came to aid the Humans at The Ark (and briefly on Earth) , and in co-op the alliance is even more prevalent as there are now up to three Elites fighting directly alongside the Chief throughout the entire campaign!
Honestly, “it’s a spartan story” is such a nonsensical reason to not include playable Elites, or any other playable species, for that matter. Not when the old Halo games included them without needing to provide some explanation as to why they are there, and especially not when Halo 3 lets you play as Elites in the campaign, supporting the MasterChief!
“It’s a Spartan story” is not a very thought through answer. Besides, even if it is a Spartan story why does that automatically mean that Elites can’t be apart of it? Halo Reach was a HUGE Spartan story, and yet there were still playable Elites.
Bungie didn’t try to make multiplayer canon. That’s because it was fine, red guys fought blue guys, no questions asked. Then 343 came along and had to make it all canon with their whole, “You in the Halo universe”. Some things are better off unexplained and uncanonized.
I think the biggest thing that 343 needs to learn is the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Well I’m back from the gulag. Anyway I feel like that was just a quickly thought up answer to try to address the question. We see assassinations capped from launch, and now forge and coop absent from launch too even tho coop was a significant marketing point at the beginning of infinites marketing lifecycle. This game definitely is having its fair share of development setbacks, so once the game launches I hope 343 has it in their hearts to add them.
