I understand people’s love for elites but if the decision to not have them in Infinite right now has been made then that’s something we just have to accept. I can almost guarantee there are reasonable statistics that show the player population for elite character models just justify the decision that was made.

> You know, I don’t think it is even completely about that. It’s more so the fact that some of these players have been waiting for up to nine years for playable Elites, only to essentially be told by 343 that ‘you’re not important, we don’t care about you’. Which is pretty much how it is, considering they said nothing about Elites throughout the game’s development. Why, they would’ve probably kept silent until the game’s launch if someone had not put forth the question for their next Ask343. That should be enough to see, clearly, that 343 does not care about their fan base. Well, the non-competitive part, anyway.
I’m in agreement with this, although, saying 343 does not care about their fan base is a huge statement although it’s arguable… It’s more like, I think they listen to their fan base it’s just they don’t listen to this part of the fan base, which still isn’t good. It makes this part feel small and meaningless in the overall picture which is, akin to thinking that they don’t care about a large portion, but maybe not all. Realistically it’s a whole can of worms to get into and it’s very emotional and convoluted so I usually stay away from it. They are allowed to listen to whoever they want, that’s their choice, but there are consequences for not listening to this one, consequences that are unavoidable.
What’s the really substantial thing you bring up though is how: it’s not even really about playable elites anymore, it’s about how a persistent, 8 year long community rally for something that, is pretty clear now that a large enough contingent of people want, has gone largely unnoticed, and the misconception that we’re all protesting Halo just because of a cosmetic. The topic is so much more than a cosmetic now, it’s more like a statement. Most people think it’s just about a cosmetic but the most disheartening thing is their having not done anything to acknowledge, refuse, promise or surprise us with anything, has given off the statement that this part of the community is not important… or at least important enough to put in the first impressions of Halo Infinite. Anyone can say whether or not they think we’re important, it’s just an opinion, but the fact of the matter is, people who feel unimportant (which they have an 8 year, effortful reason to be, now) don’t feel yearning to support a game and a company that… well, may need all of the support they can get right now. If people think it’s ridiculous to make a huff about this and think we should all just shut up, it makes us feel like we’re lesser of Halo fans. The more the issue is never acted on, or even dismissed by fellow fans, the less people here feel important,
and the less they feel important, the less likely they are to stay with Halo.
One could say “Ahh well, good riddance, we didn’t want those people anyway”, but for me? That’s heartbreaking because I think they are valuable people. I think that it’s heartbreaking that people are so easily able to just dismiss their fellow comradery, based in thinking they are just vocal haters. They aren’t vocal haters, they’re just like you! They love Halo, just like everyone else. That’s what unites us, its sacred. So do we love Halo, so do we want it to be better, even if we do act so harshly, we’re still fans. Most of us do it out of a love, most of us don’t hate 343, we’re just let down so many times that it’s sometimes hard to frame criticism with civility.
If the real answer, after all that, is still that: we as fans are not important to anyone… well that’s the depressing truth.
Some of us feel like this was going to be the final straw, the launch of Halo Infinite, the first impressions of their third mainline Halo, the make or break, where all those 8 years of feedback and backlash would finally pay off.
We were all excited because:
It can’t be true that they just haven’t ever seen this thread, it just can’t be true that they have no idea that a large amount of people want playable elites.
Now we’re just at the point of discovering whether they ever planned to act on that community outcry or not.
If they didn’t, then that kinda devalues this mega-thread and all of its 900 pages, and vehement supporters. Why? Because this isn’t the first time this has happened. Numbers now, speak louder than the words spoken. It has been 8 years, there are going to be now 3 main games, 900 pages, and I can’t count how many have joined this thread. It’s not just about elites anymore. Even if the virus is to blame, they still had about 7 years to address this part of the community, either by saying it’s never going to happen, saying it’s important to them and that they plan on adding them, or just outright adding them, and… I don’t know, I just don’t think “never say never” is suitable anymore.
We all stayed thinking that we and our voices were going to pay off some day, when, realistically, they didn’t. I mean yeah, they may come later down the line but… you all know and realize how many years we’ve been telling that to ourselves. That thought, that they “may come later” is what kept the dream alive. It’s clear now, that it was never a priority. That faith never really paid off. They could probably do this for 10 more years and we’d still be here saying “but they may come later”.
It’s not about elites anymore, it’s about how treating faith like it’s an unlimited commodity is unsustainable.
If people wanted to leave now, I wouldn’t blame them. I would want to leave too if all my persistent outcry, contribution, and faith was for nothing.
