Sangheili (Elites) In New Trilogy Matchmaking (Part 1)

> I wonder if any developers in the 343 team even see this thread, or keep up with it. If so, hi. **Bring them back!**There is clearly a large amount of support for playable elites in non-competitive multiplayer or just custom games and specific game modes. Halo should be fun for both Competitive and non-competitive players looking for variety and unique gameplay.
>
> All 343 would need to say is “We will plan to release playable Elites at some point post-launch” and I’d be sold. I don’t need to know when, or why, or how; just knowing that it is really confirmed or really denied would be great. Especially with a topic as thoroughly discussed as this.
>
> If it’s a hard no, mod support when?

Just ban elites from competitive. If fighting games can ban characters. Halo can ban elites.

And if elites do come back I hope they get a purple, green, or red his like how they had a purple back in Halo 2

> To all those idiots saying that losingvelites isn’t a shale because nobody pkays them, 80% of my games have always had at least one other elite in it, so yes, less elite players, but they exist, if 1 out of 4 players on a server is an elite 4 times out of 5, it means that 20% of the comunity is an elite player, considering that Halo has hundreds of thousands of players, there are tens of thousands of elites, that to me, is a number that sais existing, you also have to remember that a decent portion of spartan players, who never played elites, want playable elites, because even if they preffer being a spartan, seeing an elite in their lobies makes them happy, my best friend is one of them, he misses having random elites when he plays Halo 5, so there are even more people than elite players that are wanting playable elites. Today and yesterday, I had never seen as many elites yet, lobies now have at least 2 or 3 elites in them, if you are a spartan player who support playable elites who enjoys Halo 2 Classic, Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo 3 multiplayer, do like these guys, temporarilly switch to an elite to boost the stats of elite players on 343’s servers database until they see all of us elite players and supporters being more numerous than they think.

I’m the exact same way. I love to fight elites, even if I’m not playing as one that match (I switch between Spartans and Elites). They give halo variety, they give the player freedom to express themselves, which is exactly why Spartans, Elites, AND Brutes should be playable in multiplayer.

There should be some game modes that they all have different hitboxes and traits, such as Invasion, Firefight, and Warzone (I did enjoy Warzone in Halo 5 so I hope it’s back in Halo Infinite).

In standard customization they should take a page from Halo 3 ODST’s book. In ODST’s customization menu there was an option to take off your helmet or not, when you took it off, it said that having no helmet would not affect your survivability, when you put it on it said that having a helmet on will not increase situational awareness. They should do the same thing with Spartans, Elites, and Brutes, except it would say playing as a Blank will not affect any traits. Then everyone would know for an absolute fact, that it was a fair playing field.

Plus there would be tons more customization options because of all the Banished armor for elites and brutes.

Amen brother. I really was hoping to see elites come back an brutes join in. But I guess that 6 years just wasn’t enough time for a company like 343.

If 343, or sweats, or whoever is so concerned with their hitboxes, yea they should just ban them from competitive, but also they could just model them like this:

This way the elite player model’s legs are still somewhat human shaped to allow for compatibility of hitboxes and the head is still adequately visible from the back.

I never liked the elites as playable characters, but it would be a bad idea to let them go like this out of nowhere, as I read in a comment either in person only … they are available or a mode that is only elites (I would never play it ) but for those who will be a lot of fun

Fingers crossed for Helioskrill. It sorta felt like playing as an Elite to me

Helioskrill was gorgeous, can’t wait to see it’s Gen 3 iteration, I would have loved to see a sangheili armor that would look like a starndard mjolnir mk6, give it a Persian name, like Xerxes, cause you know, Spartans.

I’m fine with you not liking playable elites, you are entitled to your own opinion. The only question I have for you is why don’t you like elites as a playable character? I’m not judging you or anything, I just want to know your point of view.

I’m sorry, but I’m not fluent in any language except English.

Thanks for understanding.

I’m okay with never seeing Elites in MM ever again. Maybe allow them to be playable in custom games, but that’s it.

Hello,
I have been playing Halo since Halo 2. Got my own Xbox and account for around Halo 3 (I was pretty young). Regardless, elites were always my favorite. I would always play as one. Playing Halo over the years I had gotten into competitive game play. I loved the competitive scene of Halo 3. Elites weren’t allowed due to weird hit structure. Especially from the back. So for competitive, I’d use a spartan. 99.9% of the time I was an elite, and no one minded.

My ideas for a fix on the “No playable elites” in halo are

  • Keep elite models in social matchmaking only. So team slayer can be compromised of diverse players with endless combinations of customization.
  • Rescale the models. In Infinite, they seem to be more upright like the reach models. Perhaps matching Spartan sizes could be a thing. Or, while keeping balanced base stats, keep the scales and a negative side to playing an elite would be a slightly larger hit box. (I wouldn’t mind, and if playable elites are as desired as they seem, I don’t think many others would either.)
  • Enable a preference feature where if players don’t want to play against players using elites, they can disable them.

These are a few ideas I had. I am no developer and I am aware that these ideas can take time and resources away from Halo Infinite. However later down the line, maybe a year after launch, bringing elites back can be possible. Hopefully more like Halo 2 and 3 rather than reach. Adding elites requires 343 to make an animation for EVERY weapon, and equipment in first and 3rd person. Changing the scale of their model can be troublesome to keep proportions. I’m well aware it wouldn’t be a super easy task, but hopefully over time we see them return.
In the meantime, let’s look forward to Halo Infinite, and enjoy Halo MCC as the continuous updates have been great.

I have never thought about having a setting that you could turn elites off, then there would be no complaining about elites, “not being fair” because they wouldn’t even know who was playing as them. At the same time though, halo is all about showing off your armor customization, so if no one could see your elite, then there wouldn’t really be much pride in your elite armor you worked so hard to earn. It would be like Bungie giving you recon armor, but you couldn’t show anyone because no one would ever even see it because of some sort of similar setting.

As for your point about making the elites slightly more upright I agree, but to add to that idea more you could take away the hump at the back of the elites armor that guards the head, then you can headshot them from behind just as easily as you can headshot Spartans.

The Halo Infinite elite design is pretty slim, so if you tweaked the hiboxes of the elites just a little bit, they could definitely make the elites hitboxes fair, but the only problem is if 343 are willing to put in the time to make these improvements, chances are they aren’t, prove me wrong 343.

Whilst an interesting suggestion, I have to go with Exile on this one- any turning off feature will demean any work you put in to get these armours. I personally can’t imagine how mundane it is for Halo 3 players who turn off the new armours and skins and whatnot, although I guess I can because I’ve played Halo 3 in the past, and even after the amazing additions to it, I still find it boring because it’s outdated and slow paced, but I won’t get into my controversial views on Halo 3.

Expression is important, by having an option that lets someone ignore your choices, you are taking that away from the player, furthermore, I think we all have to accept that we will never be able to make Elites and Spartans equally balanced in terms of what they can and cannot do, so the best option is to give one a particular advantage, and give one another advantage. Spartans are harder to hit because they are smaller, but Elites can be easily sniped- buff the shielding around Sangheili heads a little, so you at least don’t get picked first by a sniper who wants an easy kill. Maybe do something about the agility of both races- Sangheili evolved to do crazy stunts, so they can jump higher like in Reach, and any dodging ability in the game should work better for them, but Spartans have the advantage of being quicker- maybe they can…well honestly I don’t know, but my point is, the differences should be slight, but noticeable enough to make sure that both species can kill each other and so that we don’t just gravitate towards one race because it’s easier to kill.

As someone else stated here before, competitive players are supposed to be able to handle any situation- if they cannot handle Elites in competitive, then they are not nearly as good as they claim to be. That’s my view on Elites in competitive, however I would accept being limited to social gamemodes, because honestly I would probably never play competitive if I could play as an Elite in social.

I would say that they don’t have 100% animation to do they can re-use some that the ia use in halo infinite campaign.

And to put me opinion on where elite should go in matchmaking it’s would be best that they stay in social/custom game i know the competitive dislike of elite but it not a reason to lock them out of social like big team battle and other social playlist , as far as i know social is not competitive so it should not be like reach did but more like halo 3 did

No Elites, none of my money for Bonnie and Frankie. Still waiting on MCC stuff too, tired of having to waste my points on garbage I don’t even want just to get the few things I do want each season.

Talking from a point of no authority on game making what so ever. What is the absolute minimum effort I assume 343 would need to invest just for the Sangheili to be playable?

  • UI/HUD
  • Extra animations to sync better with player controller (literal animator for player, not what you hold)
  • FP animations, or could animation inherit from Spartans with tweaks.
  • If not a thing, redone base texture to allow mp colors to work (This can be done in CE)
  • Either fullbody options for armor like Reach, or go the extra mile with part separation
  • Balancing size/hitboxes. Imo, pointless for custom games.

Can you believe the Automag first person animation is still brocken on the elites? Istead of being well placed inside the hand, the pistol is literally clipping inside the hand, I stop using that gun because it angers me.

I never noticed. I’ll have to go in forge in see.
