I am so surprised to see this thread still going strong, it was posted so many years ago and yet it still has support. It is such a shame that 343i clearly has no intention of listening to the overwhelming demand for playable Elites in future mainline Halo games, otherwise Halo 5 would have them. MCC had them and that was all well and good, but also very expected as Halo 2 was their debut. We want them to be a staple, as available to players as the male/female character model. And hopefully handled properly from both a story and an art design perspective.
It’s easy to believe that the decision makers at 343 don’t even watch high profile youtubers like Halofollower and Latenighthalo who do not represent a minority when they say Elites aren’t meant to act like big, brutish, dumb, monsters. And aren’t meant to look the part either. They are meant to be intelligent, honourable, elegant, and noble. And they are supposed to look the part. We were afraid of them because they presented a threat. They were just as fast, strong, accurate, and tactically intelligent as a Spartan as a natural species with seemingly unlimited numbers. While there was only one of you. That is why Elites were to be feared. That is why Spartans had to use dirtier tactics, and abuse the Elites’ sense of honour and ego to defeat them consistently. Often relying on superior teamwork in larger engagements.
Elites should have strongly developed AI in Halo, but they only know how to stand, shoot, grenade, Melee, enter a vehicle, board, and sidestep. They can’t even properly pathfind, as they are only programmed to either hold a position, or run from one predetermined position to another and hold that. This is inferior AI programming to what we saw in Halo CE over 15 years ago. They could take cover, flank, roll, strafe, crouch, push on the player, retreat, follow a player outside of its usual combat zone with its superb pathfinding. They even had the ability to reposition and coordinate with the other AI to form wedges and crossfire sight lines on the player. It was superb.
If Elites return to multiplayer, they must also be something players can be proud to represent.
I hate to bring up the bungie vs 343, but I know for a FACT Bungie would’ve brought elites back after seeing a post this large. If they aren’t back in Halo 6, I will forever hold the biggest grudge against 343. I don’t want to hate 343’s halo, but it’s getting hard not too.

League of legends.
We’re in the presence of a PC player. Hopefully with 343’s stance on sports halo can be the LoL of consoles someday. (A man can dream)
if they could atleast reply to this thread ( its hard to miss!) then id atleast know we’re not just putting messages in a bottle here,
but a side note i agree with what a few people have said that they need to change Elites back to the “Elite” warriors they where once known as, they are suppose to be the covenants Spartans not these big clumsy gits we see in halo 5, they are suppose to be tactful, quick, precise and a actual threat.
now though they just feel like taller shielded grunts.
i fail to see where Brutes will fit in if Elites continue to act like this.
Honestly…I think 343 should go further with the way the sangheili act like in halo 5. Before you have me hung by my entrails and have my corpse paraded across the city hear me out. The way the elites acted more elegantly in the classic halos was because they were part of the covenant, the most glamorous and overly dramatic military in the galaxy, they spoke with more carefully chosen words, their armor and vehicles were refined to match the prophets tastes. I won’t lie to myself and I agree that the covenant remnant elites had no business acting more “brutish” and the elites should not move around like they have cinder blocks for shoes, but I do think a more crude and warrior like sangheili would work better with the swords of Sanghelios vs the old religious crusader mentality. As for them looking more savage…
I think this looks more savage
At least the 343 elites can offer some kind of expression vs the reach elites which about as expressive as a deer with tight skin. Another thing I noticed people criticizing 343’s elites for is how big their feet are and how deep their voices are. First the classic halo 2 elites had just as big if not bigger feet as the 343 elites, second again the halo 2 elites had a second voice actor which had just as much bass as 343’s elites, it’s just that the halo 2 elites didn’t yell as much. Lot’s of the criticism regarding 343’s elites I understand but some of it is unjustified.
What do you think Urs thinks of us brothers?! Still clinging to the covenants old ways!

Elites have always had an elegance to them, in halo legends that was around the time they joined in the covenant.
I think an easy solution is leave the savage binch with jul… Wait he’s dead…
And leave the elegant and slick elites with Arbiter.
Phenotypes would be great, with that people can choose.

Their armor and vehicles were results of their designs, San’Shyuum designs, and Kig-Yar designs. Also, you never got a chance to see Reach Sangheili express looks the way you get to see Gek do we really only have images of them without their helmets that are all in multiplayer vs cutscenes in Spartan Ops, so that’s not really fair. Btw, it has been stated, I don’t remember where, that the “slick” Sangheili phenotypes (I assume you are referring to the ones previous to that of Halo 4) and the one in Halo 4/5 are all a part of both Jul 'Mdama’s Covenant Remnant and The Arbiter’s Swords of Sanghelios.

I’d like to see it in game really, the mix of phenotypes. But sadly, my dream is swept away by the thought of some vocal random crying that he can’t deal with two types of elites in the same game…
But then I say screw that and think it would be the coolest idea.

I just don’t understand why they can’t put two types of elite in the game. They put multiple types of promethean soldiers in the game. Look at the soldier and soldier caption, both similar but the caption looks like it has a bigger build and over all different look. So if others can deal with that, they could easily deal with this. ( In my opinion the caption looks bigger, I have been told it’s just a different armour).

The thing is, devs have to play there game safe, or they will get hundreds of complaints saying it’s to complicated. (A vocal minority mind you…)
The difference between the soidler and the Sangheili phenotypes are rather large. Soldiers keep the general same shape, same strategy, where as these Sangheili phenotypes would adopted many different capabilities.
Halo 2 adding heretic elites screwed with so meny people (apparently… ) I say screw those guys, add this one for us Sangheili and make it fun and interesting to play.
And besides… 343 added sprint… a taboo for halo till reach… (glad they didn’t add it back in halo 2) what more do they have to lose? Nothing can top that hate.

Ok, I agree 120 percent with you.
In halo 2, I don’t see how adding heretic elites messed with people. I thought the heretic elites where a great plot point. They showed that the elites could be shown the cons of the covenant and furthered the fact that they think for themselves, not just following orders. Maybe some need to see that war is more than just point and shoot (all fine and good from a gameplay perspective), war actually changes peoples lives. And what better way to show this, from a story point of view, then to have some of the most devout fighters of a religious group do a complete turn around.
As for sprint, if so many are unhappy with it, they could just remove it. ( I can play with or without it, but see why others are upset.)

Essentially all he is saying is that the community has always complained about various things. People complained about the Heretic Sangheili, as well as the fact that you played as the Arbiter at all. Now people say those missions, and his character was a great addition to Halo 2. Though during the period of it’s release people were split, this is a common trend around here. The most recent game sucks and ruined everything, the game before wasn’t so bad, and then the game before that was perfect. Even if you go back to the conversations of all the games, and there were always complaints.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. I honestly think that halo 5 needed work, but was an average shoot these days. Halo 4 and 5 are the only ones I had complaints adout. But thats just me I geuss.

Yep definitely agree with you on that. When Halo 5 first came out, and I saw the negative reviews on YouTube, I would always laugh when I heard people say that “Halo 4 was loved by the community when it first came out” and that “Halo 5 ruined things from Halo 4” because Halo 4 was BOMBARDED with hate from the community when it first came out.
I would love for Elites to return, with increased customization as well. The only problem being the competitive players having a temper tantrum over unfair balancing. I don’t play competitively, I play for fun. So yeah, bring back elites, and dual wielding, and all the other stuff that heightened the fun (not to say it isn’t already fun), because that’s what it should be: fun. I want to bring the point up that 343 is doing their best, it’s just that every move they make is criticized, so they don’t know what the hell to do. I honestly think they’re scared to make any drastic decisions because of the constant complaining. I dunno, rant over.

No offense to the comp players, but halo isn’t just there’s, and there ideal halo is not one I want. They need to understand that they arn’t the only ones that love to play this game.
Simple solution, give an intire section of matchmaking to the comp players, where they can get the maps they want, and what ever else.
Then give everyone else to the social. Playable Elites, fun gametypes (social slayer, social swat, action sack, basically social copies of every playlist and more) dual wielding, and no sprint or spartan abilities (for classic player)
I don’t care who complains, this is the best idea I could come up with, it has everyones intrests in mind. It will be kinda like halo 3.

That sounds like a good solution to me. Everybody has something to enjoy.

I’t doesn’t hurt to give the players more options ill agree with that, ill be honest i think halo 5 has nailed it with the multiplayer movement wise, the spartan abilities are fantastic and i think should stay.
but they do need to cater to a wider audience with more options, i agree with all the points there but im mostly praying they see this thread and bring playable elites back.
I remember playing wars in halo reach, one team had a covenant cruiser and the humans had a frigate and with banshees and falcons( and jetpacks for the helljumpers) it was awesome, i want moments like that again.
i should add the frigate and cruiser where made in forge world ( my favourite map)
side note: am i the only one who misses fall damage?
