Sangheili (Elites) In New Trilogy Matchmaking (Part 1)

> 2535440283237581;11541:
> I (somewhat) understand your desire to play as Elites in a new/current Halo game, but can we please stop with the comparisons to serious issues regarding prejudice towards specific groups? Honestly, you’re comparing a cosmetic option in a video game to conflicts that people lost their lives in…
>
> Its already been explained that time, or the lack thereof, was the primary reason Elites aren’t playable. Elites in War Games simulations is sound as far as lore goes.
>
> Keep in mind that to reintroduce playable Elites, much work would need to be done:
>
> - Arrange a 1st person POV on the existing Elite model (or create one from scratch for multiplayer)
> - Create 1st- and 3rd-person animations for all base actions e.g. sprinting, thrusting, clambering, sliding, throwing grenades, etc.
> - Create 1st- and 3rd-person animations for equipping, zooming, firing, and reloading/cooling each and every weapon available in the MP sandbox.*
> - Create a HUD for the Sangheili perspective, not to mention tweaking existing overlays for when zooming with various weapons.
> - Code all models, animations, HUD, and overlays to work without issue.
> * Note for #3: Third-person equipping and firing animations would already exist for some weapons, but AI-controlled Elites don’t reload. All would require first-person animations.
>
> Despite all of the work outlined above, that doesn’t even account for additional armor/animations for assassinations. Even more animations would have to be made just for the different combinations between Spartans and Elites… especially when you consider all the options available through REQs.

All of those things were done for Reach, so forgive me for not seeing the issue here…

All of those things? In the same quantities?

Compared to Reach, H5 has more weapons to make animations for (28 to 20, I believe), with each needing a 1st and 3rd-person animation for zooming (this isn’t present in previous games) along with equip, reload, and fire animations. H5 also required more animations for base abilities/AAs/SAs, and even has an animation for activating power-ups.

Then we have assassinations… Take every assassination animation in H5 and multiply it by 4 (Spartan on Spartan, Spartan on Elite, Elite on Spartan, and Elite on Elite) to see how many animations would’ve been done to achieve the same quota had Elites been included.

Fact of the matter is, H5 has more hurdles it’d have to jump through to allow for playable Elites (heck, even Reach cut back on Elite customization). I’d like to see it happen if they don’t have anything better to work on, but its a disproportionate amount of work for an aesthetic skin. Its understandable why they would be hesitant to do it.

Somehow it manage to still be workable in other games. It may take awhile but it would be worth it, besides I don’t see a reason for spending 60 bucks on a game that has nothing your looking for, which is how I felt when Elites where not playable. Halo 5 had nothing for me, so I skipped it, and I think some will be okay with how elites were in Halo reach as a whole. To you, it maybe just a skin, but to us, we are playing as something we are not which is the whole point of games. Besides, Although we may not be super soldiers, I could pick out at least one or two things that I have in common with a Spartan… Not everyone once to play the knight some prefer to be the monster.

I see what you’re saying. It would take time and effort for 343 to add in Elites which could be placed elsewhere to improve elements of the game itself. Already obvious, but it’s not going to stop a part of the community from fighting for what they’ve wanted for a number of years now.
If 343 doesn’t want to throw too many resources at making Elites then they could hold a contest for the Elite community to create proper animations, etc for the addition of Elites. On top of that both Elite and Spartan communities could submit new animations and other stuff to be added.

343 do have the talent to do this, if they can add them for Halo 6 then it would be worth the wait. Besides, even the new forge did not convince me to even give Halo 5 chance. I will keep my money held on Halo games till then. Some may think I’m not being a true fan for this, but they wouldn’t spend money on a game if it had nothing for them. SSimple as that.

in my opinion it would be a good idea that elites are more important in the next game (Halo 6)
would also be great even a new trilogy with them as main characters.

So one character skin (elites) would be enough to buy a game? I don’t buy halo because I’m a Spartan… I could see (and that’s a maybe) your arguement if the franchise was built around elites, but it’s not.

As said before, it isn’t an issue of talent but of time/resource management.

I’m not going to delve into the “no true Scotsman” fallacy regarding what makes or breaks a “true” fan, but I don’t understand how you can say the game has nothing for you because it doesn’t have an elaborate cosmetic option. Does the gameplay mean nothing to you? What would you do in the game if you could play as an Elite?

343i are just -Yoink- baggers too many times of the day.

They gave a random colonists a unique model and VO with hims speaking Portuguese but they couldn’t make the Arbiter an essential character look different from any of the normal Sangheili despite him canonically not being of their race.

Canonical Accuracy<A Language Joke

Yeah 343i deserves alot of the hate if this is there priority listings.

What?

Elites were cool to be honest. I have a friend who loves Elites and in H2A and H3 he loved Elites. Always.

Even though I’m a fan of playing as an Elite I still bought Halo 5 for the game. I would still really like Elites to be included in the game as a playable species though. There’s an experience to be had when you’re playing as another species, or fighting against or with another species. Some people might not care or recognize that difference, but in the Halo community some people do. Those people are part of the Elite community.

343i spent the time to give the Portuguese colonist his own personal model instead of spending the time to do it for the arbiter a more critical character.

I and the reptilian army are demanding elites back. HISSS

If playable Elites are one day, truly refleshed into a Halo title, I will spend my life savings on REQ bundles just to show my appreciation. I’ll film it too; post it here for all to see.

Have I made it clear now the lengths I will go to for such a thing?

Seriously i need elites back…HISSSSSS

Hail to this immortal thread! Seriously it will continue its immortality until the day we get them back and after

I enjoyed the option, but never considered it a major selling point. I don’t have a problem with people finding a deeper appreciation for cosmetic options, but I do have a problem with some of the antics I’ve seen here. Little things like “343i are lazy, it would only take a few hours”, “Halo is nothing without it”, and especially “I’m being oppressed, 343i is basically -Yoink!-” and the like.

Huh. Never noticed the Portugese miner in my playthroughs. Now I’m curious if it is actually a face only used in that one instance. I’ll have to keep my eyes out for that next time.

What do you mean they didn’t make the Arbiter look unique? He has ceremonial armor, a unique and ornate Energy Sword, and even has one arm covered only in war paint.

Hey OP, have you read all 579 pages of this?
