ODST was originally going to be about elites, but enough people complained on Halo 2 that they “Didn’t wanna play a Dino” that it changed.

> But yeah, there’s some people saying they won’t play at all because there’s no elite skin. They were never much of a Halo fan in my book.

I think for most of the people saying that, this was just the straw that broke their back. 343i claim they have been listening to their fans, but they just plain ignore the biggest thread on their forums. Plus, there is the fact that they’re confirming that you can’t play as elites five months before release when they’ve had basically since the Reveal of “Halo Xbox One” two years ago to do so.

It’s even worse when you consider that those who like to play as Elites likely enjoy customizing their Character, in fact I would say that’s true of the majority of Halo fans. So hey, no playable Elites, at least I can have some sick customization right? Have different shoulder pads to make my Spartan unique and to even make Him look like he has a specialized role in the Battlefield(This was a lot prominent in Reach than in 4)? Nope, we get helmets, visors, and armorsets!

I think that speaks volumes to how much they truly value not just our expectations and opions as fans, but the foundation on which they are building their version of the Halo franchise.

You think people are over-reacting and that they’re not real Halo fans. In my opinion, I think every Halo fan should be a lot more upset at the plain downgrade to character customization in Halo 5.

There has been no evidence that we won’t be able to customize our armor sets. People are still panicking over Josh’s tweet from december that was referring to customization in the beta.
Find me one shred of non-speculative evidence that we won’t be able to customize legs, shoulders, chest, etc…
And just because there are no Elites, doesn’t mean they’re ignoring you. Just because they can’t give you elites doesn’t mean that they don’t know you want them.
And let’s not overlook the ton of feedback they have responded to or even implemented. Just because they aren’t doing what some want doesn’t mean they aren’t doing what everyone wants.

> And just because there are no Elites, doesn’t mean they’re ignoring you. Just because they can’t give you elites doesn’t mean that they don’t know you want them.

The thing is they can. Easily. A single programmer could put the camera in an elite and code the controls correctly in an hour. Someone else can design the HUD and arm/leg animations in five max. Assassination animations could take anywhere from a few more hours to a day or so. Everything else is already there for them.

It would literally take a a day’s effort for 1 person to do it. Half as long with 2. And yet they don’t because we’re not important enough.

If they are not ignoring us, then tell me why on this last three years they didn’t post a single word in this thread? Why they didn’t answer that there won’t be Elites before the Beta? In fact, we know that there won’t be playable Elites on H5 because people playing on E3 told us so, no one from 343 ever took the minute to type an answer.

And I’m not sure they learned from their mistakes in other matters, turn Armor Abilities into Spartan Abilities that everyone have is not exactly wipe out Armor Abilities, more balanced than H4 indeed, but then they came to tell us that there are loadouts on War Zone and that this weapons will have advantages over the others.

Did you ever consider the possibility that they had plans (or in the very least, were open to the idea) to include playable Elites earlier on in development, but that something in the dev process demanded their time, effort, and resources elsewhere (perhaps something that actually contributed or affected gameplay)?

As for the armor set debacle, I definitely think having a polished, working game at launch is more important than armor customization options. What makes you believe the developers are intentionally leaving out some options if not that there is simply another aspect of the game that holds a higher priority than cosmetics and demands more attention?

Honestly, it’s like 343i are surgeons in the ER and the patient’s relatives are “vocally concerned” over her makeup when she could lose a limb.

Can I see your game dev credentials, random dude on internet?

Also, who says it has anything to do with any of that? Maybe they don’t want to shrink elites and soften their melees to balance them against spartans because that goes against canon which at this point they are completely committed to. And maybe they don’t want to make a completely new gametype to support canon elites. Maybe it’s an issue of “won’t” and not “can’t.”

With the Req packs having armor in them, I don’t see it being that difficult to later on put playable elites in there even for a limited time to see how the fans react. If it’s a positive reaction, add more elite armor, if it’s a negative, keep it to customs. With warzone being very casual (they have different tiers of the same weapon) elites shouldn’t be that big of a deal. It can be done as a small DLC or be put in as an update and will make a lot of people happy. It will also make more people buy req packs because that want to get an elite

The tech should help that but I’m not holding my breath.

You’re implying that they don’t listen to their fans despite the changes made from the beta build suggested by player feedback. They have to prioritize requests and weigh whether or not it’s practical to attempt and fits into their vision for the game. As for not speaking up about these things, perhaps they aren’t allowed to divulge certain information during development?

As for the analogy, I’m not a developer at 343i. I can’t say what “limb” is in danger, but if The Sprint is any indication, you’ll see that they have a strict schedule and setbacks arise. I mean Warzone evidently had at least 600 bugs/glitches around January and we don’t have a time-frame for how swiftly they were resolved or how many more may have reared their ugly heads.

The limitations (not loss) of customization are cosmetic in nature and are not vital to releasing a finished, working game.

Plus, there is the fact that they’re confirming that you can’t play as elites five months before release when they’ve had basically since the Reveal of “Halo Xbox One” two years ago to do so.
> >

Then I’m definitely gonna need an article somewhere confirming this.

'Cause right now it looks like they decided against it because they simply don’t care, and they’re allowing it to look that way.

Personally I don’t see a reason why they can not implement player controlled Sangheili in matchmaking. Within the comics ,which are canon, Palmer and company were seen playing a Wargames Invasion simulation with hologram Elites. Those holograms were interactable via shooting, explosions, or melee. Players that wish to be Elites can be those holograms within Infinity’s Wargames simulations.

Just because something can be done doesn’t mean that it should be done.

Also, I recall suggesting the idea of playing as a “holographic” simulated Elite on this very topic, and many people rejected it. They said that it would keep them from being immersed, that it wasn’t fair that the Spartans were “real” but the Elites weren’t, etc.

Yet it can be implemented. Though they have said Elites cannot be playable, I’ll still wait till either more info is divulged or the final product releases. If they deny Elites now, then later admit they actually are…that would be quite a move and possibly raise a great deal of excitement from the fans. Either way though the multiplayer being canon…is a limiting factor…I understand they want the players avatar to have some role in the story however.

I still reserve some hope that Elites can be player controlled in H5…as developers do purposefully lie to hide good things sometimes. Whether you regard me as a fool for doing so…I don’t care…it’s a hope…and still a possibility.

Edit: H5 is still in the works…things can be changed.

That’s more than likely due to the fact that playing as an Elite from the Swords of Sangheilos would be way cooler than a simulation dummy. Especially considering that’s exactly what’s happening in Halo Online.

Kinda sucks to think that despite all my problems with that game they’ve taken the ideal approach to implementing Elites.

Hate to rain on your parade guys but two months before the game is expected to go golden I wouldn’t expect anything. I bet it’ll be all hands on deck to try and erase all the bugs as 343 are most likely terrified of another MCC launch scenario. Maybe as a free DLC later on???

Well, crap, Frank O’Connor has just answer us (at least he did answer) no Elites, guys, and it seems it was the “we didn’t have resources to do so” excuse.
Now what?
I will not skip H5, at least the campaigns have never disappointed me (hope this won’t be the first one) but under the recent circumstances (plus the statue is kind of lame compared with the last ones) I’m definitely not buying the Collector’s edition, we can still pressing them to add them as DLC later, and as for the multiplayer I propose that everyone who is not skipping H5 use the Helioskrill armor (pity that TMCC does not allow customization and it’s multiplayer still broken).
