Sangheili (Elites) In New Trilogy Matchmaking (Part 1)

If its fine with any of you? I’d like to get back on the topic at hand here.

Anyway, What would you all say if Elites actually made it into Halo 5 MP.

I would praise 343 for actually listening to the halo community. I remember when this thread was started after an article in gameinformer said elites wouldnt be playable. This thread has stayed active ever since. Sure there have been lulls (like now), but the continued discussion on this topic shows that there are a lot of people that really do love the Sangheili and would love to play as them again. Im still hopefull that 343 will unviel something like playable Elites at E3. They have been dropping what I like to see as hints for a while now. I just hope We’re not grasping at straws here.

Your right, at this point all we can do is hope.

Ok, so to start some discussion, what role do you think the Arbiter and his elites will play in Halo 5? We pretty much know that Master Chief has been branded a traitor and that agent Locke is hunting for him. In the Halo 2 extra cutscenes we see Locke asking the Arbiter for help, but I dont see why he would. He said so himself that he used to consider him a friend. Are they going to help Locke or Chief?

Assuming we get to have them playable.

They will likely play a similar role as they did in Halo 3, except as a larger, more standalone faction. Although I’m hoping this will make them playable at some point. Who knows how long they will be with Locke, or how many missions they will go on with him, but it’s at least one. They may part ways with Locke early in the campaign.

At the end of the H2A Epilogue, Thel and Locke are in the same ship, and on their way to fight some of Jul’s Covenant, which is odd. With Locke following ONI orders, and Thel basically orchestrating his own missions… there’s no way they ended up on the same mission… My guess is that it happens a few missions into the game, and Locke runs into Thel’s Elites during that mission. It is Thel’s first time hearing that Chief disappeared, after all.

But then, why would they separate? If Thel finds out that Chief is missing, wouldn’t he also go look for him in a joint operation with Locke, to ensure Chief’s safety as a friend? Or would he continue his own mission? So confusing…

Locke would be holding back WHY he is hunting the Chief, aside from a few generic answers of “He disappared” blah blah, which for all we know could evolve into an assassination mission. After all its ONI, they’ll kill anyone to keep their secrets safe.

Which also could mean, ONI using their Spartans against the Chief and Arbiter. (that also could evoke the classical Spartans vs Elites)

This whole Halo Online thing is not good news for us. I have a feeling this is all 343i is going to do to allow Sangheili in MP. I also think this is a pretty low move for the Halo franchise, moving to a cheaper sort of game to please PC owners.

so im glad you brought this up, but I dont think this is going to have that much impact on the majority of halo fans. Its safe to assume that, for the most part, halo fans are american xbox owners. this game is being made for russian pc gamers. This is really just a spinoff sort of thing from what I can gather. Ya its kinda wierd, but I dont think it will have much impact on the core games that Most of us are anticipating.

Ya thats the part Im curios about. Is arbiter going to find out this is an assassination mission and turn on Locke or what. I mean they seem to be on pretty good terms in the H2A cutscenes. I think we are going to play as Locke for a lot of the camoaign, are we going to have to hunt down the chief?

On the other hand this could mean that they have recognized that a large number of people in the community want playable sangheili in matchmaking and what were seeing here is only a precursor to what we will see in Halo 5.

I prefer to remain optimistic. For all we know this Anvil Initiative could come up in Halo 5 war games as well.

Also another thing to consider is how we are now going to be reading about joint sangheili-human operations to the ark in Halo: Hunters In The Dark.

Honestly I think everything we have been getting lately (Naming of arbiter’s faction as "swords of sanghelios, fleshing out of the political situation in the Escalation comics/kilo-five, Halo: Hunters In The Dark, the Anvil Initiative in Halo Online, playable sangheili in Halo 2 anniversary, Halo: Shadow of Intent (presumably), evidence from the H2A prologue/epilogue) is all slowly pointing towards a much bigger role for sangheili in general for Halo 5: Guardians and beyond.

That fills me with joy.

Sangheili are so badass in the books (ever notice how Spartans always nearly die when fighting one?) but the way they were portrayed in Halo 4 and Nightfall was absolutely pathetic, and I have been extremely worried that this “dumb slow lizard alien” niche they have been shoved into would be their new, permanent portrayal.

would be great to see elites return in matchmaking even reach didnt have best multiplayer i really enjoyed playing invasion in reach

If we get elites, I hope they are the thin elites, rather than the huge bulky elites in halo 4.

The Anvil Initiative. It’s everything we want but in the wrong game and quite far out of reach for a lot of us. Pretty cool logo though, if this thread had a flag this would be perfect.

Just to throw this out there, I’m not buying this game if I can’t play as an Elite in multiplayer. Clearly the community has made its point how important this is. As silly as it sounds, they really WILL lose out on money for not implementing this simple feature they did back in Halo 2.

/signed another multiplayer elite fanboy

Same here.

I found zero desire to play Halo 4 as a Spartan and the result was me playing for about a month and a half before shelving the game. I don’t plan on wasting money like that again.

I really got board with halo after a month.

I miss elites as I like to make elite noises when killing them in MP.
