The Elites wouldn’t be a part of the Covenant, but probably under a faction lead by Arbiter. Also, I think the Arbiter returning for Halo 5 is a good sign.
Though as we hear Spartan this and that, and still no response from 343i, I do wonder though. What would the organization be called, if Spartan’s are the sword and shield of humanity. What is the sword and shield of the Sangheili, by what name would they be called to defend home?
Elites are as important as Spartans so 343 has no reason to be lazy on a (HALO) game and not add more physics, sounds, and if there are still some, add more assassinations for the Elites in matchmaking and custom games and as playable species in general.
Elites are must, for sake of variety and catering elite fanbase and for machinimas.
That is true they are a fanbase and machinmas. Though companies tend to care for other things and sometimes not what there fans think. That is unless they get a ear full. So with Halo 4 not having playable elites. Im for sure they will for Halo 5. Though we will have to wait and see when the date gets closer. Lets only hope they do.

There actually is an existing answer to this. Remember the “Ascetic” armor of Halo 3? That armor is designed for the homeworld protectors of the Sangheili. So, in other words, the “Sword and Shield” of the Sangheili (Aside from the average citizen, which, in a warrior culture, means everyone fights) is the Ascetics.

Not many people remember, them, honestly, so no worries.
On an unrelated note, that was actually my favorite armor in Halo 3. Given my bias against using the sword when a shotgun is available, though, I never unlocked the helmet.

I am really glad that elites are playable in Halo 2 Anniversary (never liked playing as a Spartan in that game), and I hope that 343i brings them into multiplayer for their new games.

I wouldnt think it would go away at all. Though our day will come, at least we have a book coming soon this November based on the elites and not spartans for once. So i cant wait to see where this book takes us.

I’ve never played as a Sangheili character in Halo and don’t really like it, but with that said I do think you should have the option to play as them in H5, it didn’t diminish the Halo 3 experience (at least to me) and it keeps everyone happy with their own unique experiences.
