Sangheili (Elites) In New Trilogy Matchmaking (Part 1)

Varmah, did you see the h2a MM Sangheili model? It looks fantastic…

Edit! Maybe in invasion some classes? As a “new” thing to debut in invasion as its big return…like full blown class based shooter inside of normal Halo, kinda like how there is “shooty” Halo and griffball…what if we add to that with full on classes in invasion. (think TF2)

I have, but barely. Whatever video I see it in, it always turns out pixelated and distorted. It looks really Reach-like, from what I’ve seen. You wouldn’t happen to have a high-quality link, would you?

I’m very sorry but I do not, check IGN for H2A multiplayer demo…psssst read my edit above ^-^

The thing about TF2 is the restriction of choosing a class and their recognize-ability.

For recognizing, the ability to distinguish between classes is crucial. In TF2, you can clearly see a difference between the Heavy and the Scout. That means I can know exactly what I’m up against if being charged by a Scout, and can fight accordingly.

This goes hand-in-hand with the restriction of classes. In TF2, I’ll never have to worry about a Spy using a sniper rifle, as the class system prevents that from happening. With that, the randomness is lowered, and I can logically attack without worrying about an unseen shotgun from a Medic.

Neither of these seem to coincide with Halo. In Halo, each character has colors, and in later games, customizable armor to differentiate between players. Said players can also exchange weapons from what they spawn with to what they find lying on the ground. Halo is an arena game, and taking in class-based gametypes would feel like two different games are being played.

If Invasion had a class based system, the game would need to:

  1. Have different models to make the classes easy to notice
  2. Remove the ability to swap weapons so I can’t reap the benefits of two classes at once.

I could see this happening.

If you wanna pick up their guns, wouldn’t that be your reward for killing them? Halo has always had weapon pickups. Why change it now?

No no no it would be just in that game mode.

You, my friend, have just summed up exactly what I’ve wanted in Invasion since I first heard about it.

So are the Elites only gonna use Covenant weapons or what?

> So are the Elites only gonna use Covenant weapons or what?

We did see Arbiter and SGT Johnston taking weapons from each other in a Halo 3 cut-scene. It’s before they’re heading into the portal to the ark I think.

BTW I’m thinking of taking a jackal shield and being able to use it as a weapon in MM and dual wielding it with other stuff. There could be an unbreakable version considered a power-weapon and a breakable version not considered a power-weapon. If it’s not implemented into MM then it should be put in Customs. 343 should never remove anything entirely. If it is to be removed then they should remove it from MM and keep it for customs in order to let us have more things to get creative with when creating new custom games.

Was surprised by how the animation for crouch movement for elites looked, never realized it until a couple of hours ago.

As funny as that was, I really really dislike that model.

Kit, I’ve been meaning to ask you: Do you not like the structure of the H3 Elite, or is it the basic appearance you don’t like? If it’s the structure of the Elite, they look exactly the same to me.
Halo 2 Elite
Halo 3 Elite
Aesthetically, H2 Elites do look nice, but I still do like the H3 armor nonetheless.
I’m only asking out of curiosity. You’ve always been a firm supporter of the Halo 2 style, and I wish to hear you perspective.

I like the h3 armor BUT they just seem to have more of a hump back to me, that is my entire issue I also think H3 Sangheili’s necks are to long…did you see the H2A MM Sangheili yet?

Yeah, I have. Still blurry, but I like it so far. It seems like a hybrid of Halo Reach and Halo 2, and I’m lovin’ it.

Indeed I hope they go along its line for h5g.

Considering the Hardlight Shield won’t be returning (along with the other AAs), having a Jackal Shield might be cool. But I think it should only be useable with a Magnum or a PP. Using a Plasma Rifle or SMG might be too beneficial for the user. Also, I think one that never breaks might be a bit OP.

Giving players the option to play as a Spartan or Elite in any gametype, like in Halo 3, removes any possible differences the two species could have. When Elites are isolated from Spartans, segregated into specific gametypes like Elite Slayer, it allows them to have their own unique traits, like Evade as a base movement ability, which could never be perfectly balanced against the different base traits of a Spartan.

Rather than Elites simply being reskinned Spartans, available in every gametype, they should have their own gametypes with their own player model, hitbox, and base traits. A sub sandbox, of Elite weapons and vehicles, enhances this alternate experience that Spartan gametypes alone can not provide.

Gametypes intended to play asymmetrically, like Infection or Invasion, benefit from the inclusion of two species with asymmetric base player traits. The thing that prevents both Spartans and Elites from working in symmetric gametypes is the same thing that allows them to improve asymmetric gametypes: asymmetric base player traits. When the map geometry, spawn points, weapons, vehicles, and objectives, relative to each team, are asymmetric then it only makes sense that the two teams’ base player traits become asymmetric as well.
