Okay, that makes a lot more sense.
As someone who strives for organization, I’d personally rather have Elites and Spartans have different menus. While it would be nice to have everything under one menu, to me, it’d just be taxing to scroll through a billion Spartan armor pieces, just to get to the 5 Elite armors we end up getting.
I just realized something.
I was playing Halo 3 because I had just gotten the Ascetic permutation, and I wanted to celebrate. I was scrolling through the helmets, and I realized Elites only had 5 helmets, only one of which being open-mouthed. I thought it wasn’t fair how Spartans have more than twice our helmets, a lot of which are vaguely similar to each other.
In Reach, the lack of customization gets worse. The armor is definitely more diverse, but we can only have them in sets. While I do prefer to have matching armor components, I do think the lack of flexibility is kind of restricting for those that really go for originality. The fact we can only play as this species in about 3 gametypes doesn’t help.
In my opinion, I believe for every Spartan armor you unlock, you should get an Elite armor as well. If you get, say, Gungnir for beating Slayer Victory, I think you should get Commando as well, so the Elite players can get something for their efforts too.
Thoughts?
I agree with that. But I also believe the armors should be of the same general idea when it is applicable;
For instance, unlocking Spartan EVA should also unlock Elite Ranger.
This would also allow for some pretty creative designs from 343i, but either way, I think that both loyalist and separatist armors should both be based off of the same suit. No more of that sleeveless alien crap-that reminded me too much of the Gears of War Locust.
That said, I think all of the classic elite armors should come back, even Councilor and Honor Guard. Except this time, they should be usable.

Yeah, having corresponding purposes was kinda what I had in mind, Gungnir and Commando were just the two armors I could think of.
And actually, I think Loyalist armor should be Halo 4 styled, while Separatists should draw inspiration from the original trilogy.
Not many people like the Halo 4 style armor, so the “bad-Elites” looking ugly and hostile would make sense, and the “good-Elites” have the respectful-yet-determined look would make people think better of them.
Also, if both types looked exactly the same, people would get confused. They would wonder which are the ones they should shoot at, and which to not. If you were playing Spartan Ops/Firefight, some guy who just bought the game would try to kill you because he thinks you’re the ones he should shoot at.
Well, there would be plainly obvious aesthetic differences between the two factions. The AF (Arbiter’s Faction) could wear simple armor in the vein of Halo 3 (But obviously, less ‘Chunky’), while Covenant Remnant Elites would wear stylized armor with hardlight plating and religious motifs.
That said, I think the Remnant Minors could probably get away with being sleeveless, so long as they lack shoulderguards (something I hated them having, because there was no visible point on the armor to where they were connected).
Also, unless they did an amazing job, I doubt I’d get mistaken as an elite when I prefer playing as a Spartan in most cases. Being an elite’s more of a occasional joy. But I see what you’re saying.
I never understood why people wanted to be elites in multiplayer so bad. Whoever ends up playing against that person with the elite normally considers that person to be a bad player or of less skill.
That’s pretty shallow to think that. I’ve seen elite players absolutely decimate MLG Spartans.
This is true, mainly because most players have a hard time hitting the elite’s head since it movies a lot when you jump with an elite. Im speaking in Halo 3 terms. And the thing i said about elites being considered bad isnt just my opinion. Almost every player i ever played with said they didnt like elites or that they used elites to troll other players.
> I never understood why people wanted to be elites in multiplayer so bad. Whoever ends up playing against that person with the elite normally considers that person to be a bad player or of less skill.

Your aesthetic choices in a videogame are not testaments of your skill. Anyone who thinks an Elite is a bad player because he’s an Elite is narrow-minded.
-
We choose to play as Elites for a number of reasons. For some, because they’re interesting characters, or the armor looks awesome, or some just because they’re more unique. When everyone and their mother is a Spartan, some people just like to have something that makes them different.
-
Considering an Elite player bad isn’t “normal”. It’s a somewhat common stereotype, but I don’t switch to a Spartan character model out of fear of getting flak for being an Elite. I just go along with the game, and don’t let one or two guys stop me.
Agreed, Varmah. So, what are your thoughts on the armor differences?
> Agreed, Varmah. So, what are your thoughts on the armor differences?
I see what you’re getting at. I too hated the Minors’ shoulder-pads. Makes me think they just glued the armor on.
And I do think Loyalists should have more religious armor like Ascetic, while Separatists should have armor geared toward efficiency, like Combat.
And I personally would play as an Elite all the time, so I just want a noticeable difference to avoid accidental team-killings. Once, I was playing Invasion, and I jacked a Banshee from an Elite. I circled around to avoid being taken out by a Plasma Pistol, and my teammate in a Scorpion shot me out of the air because he recognized me as a Covenant Banshee. I’m just saying, it could happen.

Someone’s aesthetic choice is never a problem when its just armor like Halo 3 till now but an elite is a completely different body type than a spartan. They are taller, bigger, their heads move when they jump unlike a spartan.
I understand the second part except the last sentence. It was never a problem in Halo 1/2 or Halo 4 so why would it be a big deal.
People considering elite players bad is very normal for me. Thats what i’ve heard by a large amount of players during my time playing Halo 3 (31 days, 17 hours). It may be that way for you but thats the ways its been for me throughout my time playing Halo 3.

I know. I’d prefer Spartans and Elites be as equal as possible so we don’t repeat Reach and it’s segregated playlists. In Halo 3, to me at least, fighting a Spartan and fighting an Elite aren’t very different at all. Yes, you can’t head-shot an Elite from the back, but outside of that, it’s not a huge gap, like fighting a Grunt then fighting a Hunter.
I realize my word choice wasn’t the best.
I meant, the average player is a Spartan, the default player choice is a Spartan, and the story revolves around a Spartan. To me, being an Elite is something different. If I glance through Service Records in the pre-game lobby, a big majority of them will be a Spartan. So seeing an Elite, while not breathtaking, is still different enough to catch my attention for a second.
And I guess player opinions all depend on who you ask. It just goes to show you, not everything in a community is unanimous.
Well put. Sorry I can’t put much input into this MP-based convo, unfortunately, although, I did find a bit of an issue for elites in Spartan Ops, assuming the PC can use Remnant Armors.
They need to look to Halo Wars or Reach for Elite models.
I especially liked the monstrous and hawk-like Arbiter from Wars.
But yeah, the Reach armor needs to come back. If anything the Storm Covenant should be filled with Zealot class Elites. The sleeveless armor would be fine for the Minors.

They did have some nice armor in those games, and Ripa 'Moramee did look awesome. But I think it depends on what side you want them on, Remnant or Separatist. For Separatists, they might look to “hostile” to be humanity’s ally, but for Remnants I’m all for it.
There needs to be more armor permutations for ceremonial roles such as the Honor Guard. Not only would its return be desirable, but other specialized ranks being implemented with all new armour appearances. What would be nice is the introduction of a specialty division, such as a paramilitary organisation.I think 343i can take some inspiration from the -Yoink!- Schutzstaffel,or more commonly known as the SS of WW II and create a direct analogue to that for the Covenant and fill it with the most elite and dedicated of their Sangheili soldiers. It should be an entirely separate branch with a different rank structure, unit insignia which would be available as an emblem and armor permutations to distinguish it.It would be differentiated from traditional Sangheili forces which centred its chain of command through hierarchy by preserving an ideology where commitment, effectiveness and political reliability—not class or education—would determine how far they succeeded in the organisation.

I like to play as an elite because they are just so awesome. Super soldier space marines are cool and all, but a dinosaur alien whose culture is centered around war and combat has a slightly higher rating on my cool-scale. Also, I’ve made a kind of identity for myself in Halo and playing as an elite is a part of that. Playing as a Spartan all the time in H4 just wasn’t the same.
Also, I don’t know how accurate your statement about elite players skill is. I have good games, and I have bad games. It just depends. I will admit kids are somewhat more inclined to play as elites and may have hurt the reputation of other Elite players.
I find playing as an Elite amazing.
I’ve had my taste of being a Spartan in Halo reach and Halo 4 for a lot of the time. And man was it boring. It was fun for awhile but it did not last long.
Don’t get me wrong. I still love Spartans, Its just that I don’t want to be the same thing every single time.
Even in Halo 3 I switched to the Spartan every so often.
besides everyone has a right to play as there favorite character model.
Also, I never cared about my skill even when I was a Spartan.

> As a fun fact, Noble 6 at first was about to be killed by a zealot /field marshal in the first encounter with them, but was saved by his teammates, then once he had lost every teammate, on Lone Wolf, he dies from a zealot as he was then alone.
Cool story bro. Fun fact, Spartan IIIs weren’t on the Planet Reach until Bungie put them there in 2010.
Thus a zealot bagging a “Noble Six” was next to impossible (by that I mean, could not of happened at the exact time or place on the planet Reach) until Bungie decided to focus on Reach and focus on a group of the then unheard of ‘Spartan IIIs’
