An old job post by 343i,already deleted, stated they were looking for an environment artist.Whats interesting is the last part, which states "Artists who specialise in creating terrains and building expansive exterior encounter spaces are especially desired."Does this mean we’ll get larger Invasion maps, perhaps even ones that are dedicated to this game type,or even if Invasion will be included at all?You be the judge. But this to me,heralds good news.I exclusively stated Invasion as that game type as it would be most appropriate for such large maps, and as such would be desirable. If Invasion does return,I think it needs big maps most.An idea hit me actually, what if Invasion could be more creative than in Reach. An example would be a UNSC base and a Scarab. Now the Elites would have to lower the shields defending the base at different points and locations throughout it,and have sentry turrets like the ones in Dominion to assist Spartans in their defensive measures. And if the Elites are successful and the shields lowered, the Scarab would blast the facility to smithereens.

It’s far more likely if they are talking large scale exterior encounter spaces, they are talking about having larger fights in Campaign, Spartan Ops, or Firefight, with more AI on the screen than ever before.
@Thel Resonance
There could also be vehicle “ultra” variants where they are fully upgraded. So: scorpion=Grizzly, Pelican=Vulture, Phantom=Lich, elephant=mammoth, scarab=super scarab, warthog=monster truck, mongoose=mongoose with more seats, etc. Any vehicle could act as fixed locations on an invasion map (they wouldn’t move), have a set course to fly around the map (so the game would make it move and stop or just move around), or have the players able to control it fully. This would be a great way to manipulate the battlefield so that the defenders would have the ability to maximize their defense. So if the final objective was to gather a core off a Lich then people would need to get into the Lich and get the core, or blow the lich up and get the core when it falls. Also adding the ability to manipulate the traits of specific vehicles could change the game a bit. Like making an invincible Lich so the only way to get the core is to get into the Lich rather than destroy it, or letting the lich deploy a strong shield that must be destroyed first in order to enter the Lich and can changed to either regenerate or not. If the invasion game-type was Elites vs Spartans than each would only be able to spawn in faction vehicles (unless changed in options) and if it was preferably a mix of Elite and Spartans Vs Remnant we could see Remnant deploying advanced brand new forms of forerunner tech.

If they add place-able AI in a game it might be possible to create very large games for someone without a connection during a time period so you can mass an Elite invasion of other Elites. It would let Machinima makers be able to create more proper wars for videos and let them put in a number of Elites that resembles more the sheer number of them there is and allow a greater effect of doom. For MM the system could temporarily replace teammates that leave until a new teammate joins in.
Elites were a very cool thing to use in games and for “machinima” videos and I enjoyed playing as them and seeing them in both. The Sangheli are where I see the most of “fan fictions” ,which I thought made halo the most enjoyable. I love to see what people like to add to the universe for fun, and elites help that a great deal.
However, I also wouldn’t mind playing as another species, like the forerunners (because we saw The Didact and Librarian now) or brutes, that way I’m still not restricted to just a spartan.
If the elites return I’d like to see some more customization options so we stand out even more than we do already.
The likeliness of 343 returning elites are pretty high, by my opinion, sense a lot of the community wants them to return and on top of that the Arbiter for campaign.
I agree,in Reach we were forced to wear an entire fixed set of armor. We didn’t even have have wrist or utility commodities that our fellow Spartan brethren had.Now I think of it,why not a Energy Sword holder as a purchasable utility.Since Sangheili are known to keep the hilt of the blade when not drawn at the side of their right thigh, that’d be suitable. It’ll look like a brace holding it in,more then a pouch.
And some Halo 5 concept art seems to indicate the returns of wrist items and utilities. In one of Halo5Follower’s video I recall seeing a Spartan with an Halo 4 era Air Assault with what seems to be an Up Armoured attachment and a UGPS but in green.

What does that have anything to do with the fact that they are hiring players for “Expansive exterior encounter environments.”?
It has absolutely no relation to it.
All we know is that they want to design bigger exterior spaces. And it’s most likely for the sake of Campaign rather than Multiplayer. I have no idea how it became relevant to either Invasion or this thread. It’s like I said above, you guys are starting to go act desperate and take every little piece of information as some great big hint that Elites are coming back. There have been ZERO hints yet, so please stop jumping to conclusions.
I remember being the voice of reason back in Halo 4 too, when you guys were all going off saying the article mentioning “Competitive” multiplayer only meant ranked games. And I was there the whole time saying, no, it means no Elites period, but would you listen?
Listen to me now. I will speak up and act excited alongside all of you the day I can say I am certain Elites are making a comeback, until then, I suggest taking my word for it that it’s far too soon to come to conclusions.
@Thel - My only issue with the Energy Sword brace is that it wouldn’t work when you have any other sidearm at your hip.

Sorry just you mentioned putting more AI on the screen than ever before. It sparked the notion that Machinima makers who wanted to capture the numbers of the covenant army or just a large army in general could actually do something like that much easier. Though the “expansive exterior encounter environments” might be due to the capability of Halo being able to hold more players in a single game, it will be on Xbox One after all. There is a chance the Elites are coming back and that chance seems rather high with the “doing a lot with Thel and his Elites” as well as “listening to the community better”. I don’t know why 343 doesn’t just say “yes, we are adding Elites due to the demand by our community for their return”. It might not be high up on the list, but Elites in MM are still on the list of community wants.

That’s again running off the assumption they are raising the player cap, which I don’t think is the case. Not only is the demand for more than 8v8 low, but most people who take BTB seriously know why it’s a bad idea. 8v8 is perfect, fits Party Chat lobbies, and allows for a blend of tactics, and strategy as well as chaos.
Make maps too big or add too many players, and map control loses it’s context, also, it’s perfect for LAN. 4 TVs, 4 players per TV equals 16 players, which was the reason for the 16 player cap in the first place.
It’s far more likely for them to make Campaign, Spartan Ops, and Firefight bigger and grander.

I did say “capability” of the next Halo to have more players in a match, with the power of the One able to accomplish such a thing. It’s a possibility that they could allow more players in a custom games setting for getting lots of friends in who don’t really care about perfect numbers and just want to have fun with friends. In a MM setting your statement obviously makes sense and is quite agreeable.
Im all for the A.I. elites in multiplayer…that would be nice and awsome,…especially the replace normal people function.
and btw, is it just me or does the arbiter in the first escalation have a different appearance than in the second escalation. There seems to be a slight difference to me.
That would be nice if we could wear both the kadion and arbiter armor variants.
of course, that is if the elites are in multiplayer. what do you think

I’d rather Arbiter stays exclusive to the Arbiter in single player. It’s an iconic armour for the character.
Besides, everyone would just run around as the Arbiter, there’d be no variety.
Don’t know if 343 has already scrapped this but if they could, could they please keep the original standard draconic helmet design of Halo: CE, 2, and 3? In Reach and 4, they made the standard helmets look weird. Moreso in 4.
I wouldn’t worry about the old shark fin helmet leaving. The Storm Elites and Elite minors are two completely different classes. It’s just that the Minor rank was replaced with the Storm rank in Jul’s Covenant.
Minor is likely still a rank within Thel’s faction so we’ll most likely see it there.
I find the design of the Minor armour permutation of Reach to be better than the default helmet in Halo 3.However,some classics that have to return are the Commando and Ascetic helmets.I could tell from Reach’s Spec Ops Sangheili that Bungie were trying to transcend the former’s design into the Spec Ops helmet, but it never really worked for me.It lacked the aesthetic appeal that the Commando helmet had.The Sangheili military doctrine had Sangheili armour looking streamlined and in some ways shark like. The default Halo 3 helmet seems to deviate from this and would not be suitable for reintroduction. In general, more streamlined designs are more elegant and show a more advanced technological progression in terms of military might. This is simply not the case for the default Halo 3 helmet.
