I may not play as Elites all the time, but they were a definitive part of the Halo matchmaking in 2, 3 and Reach. I’d really like to see them come back. I get that you want to introduce everyone to the Spartan IVs and get them used to the new stuff, but now that it’s here, let us have a little of the old.
I loved playing as an Elite in Halo 3. Hope 343 make them playable and customizable in Halo 5. It would be a awesome feature if they return.
This thread is still going? Sheesh. Good to see some guys I haven’t seen since the the summer though. Though I have moved on from consoles to PC due to not enjoying Halo 4 as much as I enjoyed the classic games, the fracturing of a group of Sangheili players I identified with and xbox One basically being an Orwell inspired horror story I still long to play a good Halo game as my Sangheili character. Oh and while I’m here RIP CSF, sad to see it finally die after the many, many months wasting away that occurred. You were all fine chaps and I wish you good luck in everything you guys do from now on.

Completely slipped my mind -_-
I’m still hopeful 343 will put them in, it adds more to the game.
Yes. The last leader, Fos Kuvol, pretty much closed down the CSF. It wasn’t really a choice. It was becoming more of an issue trying to keep it running anyway.

Though I agree with you that elites should return as playable characters, I must say that AStreamOfCream is justified in his reference to canon as 343i has moved in the direction of making multiplayer in accordance to canon.
That very same Canonical reason behind multiplayer has already caused enough damage as is. It doesn’t explain the flood mode, it doesn’t explain fiesta or griffball or any other game modes that doesn’t make sense on the Spartan Training. It also doesn’t help the fact that you can carry Covenant Weapons as Load outs too, but yeah…no elite’s being playable has already left the elite community being shaken up.

I’m not saying it was a good idea, but rather his argument was backed up by Halo 4. I’m also not saying, that because of canon, elites can’t be brought back. Also, you have missed a key rule in Halo 4’s multiplayer. Multiplayer is canon, but what happens in multiplayer isn’t. We don’t even know what gametypes there are in canon besides slayer.
Canon Explanation: The Elites in the simulation are actually just Spartans with a holographic overlay, or however the hell the War Games AI manages to make the Spartans look like Flood Combat Forms.
> Canon Explanation: The Elites in the simulation are actually just Spartans with a holographic overlay, or however the hell the War Games AI manages to make the Spartans look like Flood Combat Forms.
It could also be said that the Elites are part of the Arbiter’s forces training onboard the Infinity with Spartans to prepare for Joint-special forces operations, especially considering the peace treaty talks in Halo: Escalation. We’ll have to see how that plays out first though.
Tbh I’m not even sure if the Flood player models are canon. Not everything in multiplayer has to be canon, just the concept.
I personally find the fact that multiplayer is canon a tad annoying and unnecessarily restricting. That’s just my opinion though.

I liked the idea of multiplayer being canon at first, but as it turns out it has only limited multiplayer if only for the fact that it seems to be an excuse for not including elites. Of course this didn’t seem to be a problem for mini-slayer. If 343 wanted to make it canon they could say that it is back in the Covenant war and they are Sangheili special forces hunting spartans.
> > > Why not just do the Ranked/Social split and keep elites only in social playlists. The only problem i have seen people have is from the competitive people who don’t want elites in matchmaking because of hit boxes. So just put them in social. If i worked at 343 i would do the rank/social split the ranked would be exactly like Halo 3 except General might not be general might have a new title. And Social could be like Battlefields system lots of ranks and lots of exp needed for each one.
> >
> > So what your saying is that you rather not bother fixing the hit boxes while creating a better model of the elite’s, and segregate them from ever playing against other kinds of people online all because they just enjoy playing one particular species than the other. Sorry buddy but that sort of thing is just a complete no. It’s only going to make things worse on the Elite community that just want to play with their spartan buddies in Matchmaking, and it just seems completely unfair.
>
> My apologies if i offended you and any other elite players not my intention at all. Well if we give the MLG and competitive people what they want i would suggest the rank/social split. Ranked no AA’s no sprint starts are BR/Pistol or BR.AR weapons on the map no infinity. Then 343 could say we are adding elites to all gametypes ranked and social but hitboxes or any other problem would be looked into and maybe tweaked if needed to try and make things fair for both species. Social would however have AA’s and loadouts and sprint. 343 could even add back in an MLG playlist in ranked like they did in Halo 3.
As far as MLG goes I think 343 should just take Reach’s approach and give them one playlist. The entire game definitely shouldn’t be limited for MLG because they are hardly the majority of Halo fans and if they are supposed to be better than other gamers then they should be able to deal with with an elite’s hitbox as the rest of us can.

Not saying they shouldn’t be considered as I am part of a minority that wasn’t considered. I am saying that the entire game shouldn’t be devoted to them in the same way that it shouldn’t be completely devoted to elites.

The nature of Halo is its lore,so inputting canon into multiplayer is understandable. But not justifiable if it means excluding certain elements that would otherwise be advantageous or do good for multiplayer variety, such as including Sangheili player models.Canon shouldn’t dictate the nature of how multiplayer turns out,and the exclusion of said components should not be so purely to conform to canon.
Screw the canon I say,343i,scrap that idea, the return of the Sangheili is nigh!

I enjoy having my SIV be a canonical character in my favorite universe.
Now I understand that it seems like a bad thing for the Elite players on this thread because we’ve been told it’s the reason why Elites have been left out of War games.
But 343 have just as much power over the story as they did with their decision to make custom SIVs cannon.
They can write things into the story if they so choose. Writing in a canonical situation to bring Elites into War games is something they have the power to do.
They certainly haven’t let the cannon get in the way of anything else.
So what should be argued is not to remove Canonical multi player and canonical custom SIVs, instead we should be asking 343 to write Elites into War games and make them part of the experience.
Having my own guy that exists in the universe is a brilliant and immersive feeling that can’t be easily explained. Elite players haven’t had a chance to experience and appreciate this yet and I really hope that they’ll have the chance to do so in Halo 5.
In fact I would go as far to say that Elite players would appreciate having their characters be cannon more than any Spartan players ever would. A few of you guys already have names for your Elite characters as your gamer tags.
Plus I really want my SIV to have Elite friends.

Well I honestly don’t mind canon influencing multiplayer the way it has because it doesn’t really affect the player’s gameplay. As a fan of canon influence on game modes in video games, I have next to no problem with the way things are in that respect. However, I think it would be better, and fair, for elites to return as our allies and thus in multiplayer. After all, we do have elites who are willing to live with us that will want to be in on the action of recent events. It would almost be “un-sangheili” for them not to want to fight the Storm, Prometheans, and maybe Flood.

Good points sir! I probably would like to have my Sangheili be an actual character in a sense. So I guess canon multiplayer could still work but only if 343 brings it to its potential and stops letting be an excuse and a limitation. While we are on the subject I would like some gamemodes like invasion to canonically be an actual battle instead of simulation because the thinking that this isn’t real just takes something away.
