Sangheili (Elites) In New Trilogy Matchmaking (Part 1)

They tend to silently observe the Forum and judging this is one of the most favourited threads on the site, it’s a little hard to miss

It would be nice to just have some word on it.

Even them saying “Don’t worry” or “We’ve got you covered” would be great.

Yeah, It’d make sense if they talk about it when they officially reveal the multiplayer though, trust me I’d love Elites being confirmed to the next batch of multiplayer news we get, but I’m not expecting anything until we see multiplayer ViDocs or whatever

Yeah that’s what I was trying to get at.

The last time I heard the words “Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered” when it came to Elites, we had just learned we were cut almost entirely out of Halo Reach and given the promise “If you like to rock the Elite at all times, there’s a place in Matchmaking for you.”

And we NEVER GOT THAT PROMISE. The game shipped without a playlist for Elites, and a playlist for them was never added. Didn’t even need to be an Elites only playlist, just one where your preferred species actually mattered.

To be honest the only time I’m going to trust 343i to deliver on this, is when we have video proof of Elites in multiplayer of Halo XB1, and the knowledge that they will not be cut out of 99% of the game like they were in Reach.

If 343 had treated elites right in Halo 4 I would probably like them more than Bungie right now=( It isn’t to late still to do it right though.

I know this is going to sound strange. But I’m actually happier to have them out of the game completely than I am to have had them dangled in front of my face in Reach as if to say “Look at the pretty model you’ll never ever use.”

And at the very least, we have the ability to throw on Contoured legs/wrists, Mark V shoulders, Tracker Chest, and Raider helmet and play pretend, which we actually CAN do in MM lol.

But still. They need to come back, and they NEED to be in every aspect of the game outside of Campaign (though an Arbiter campaign or Elite models as Coop buddies would be nice… It’s not necessary for THAT part of the game).

But Elites in MM, Customs, Spartan Ops, and FF? That is an absolute must at this point. (Well… At least to MM and Customs. But if you can manage Spartan Ops and FF that would be awesome)

I think 343 should do campaign a little differently in the campaign co-op aspect. Have the main characters played by the players and if there is no more main characters in the group to play as, then the remaining player(s) would play as the Spartan or Elite that they customized. Maybe we could see different interactions between the players and see them in cut-scenes. As for MM I want to be an Elite when I want to be an Elite, I do not want to be forced to play as something I don’t want to unless it’s something like invasion.

I get your point, I would have preferred full elite playability in Reach but I consider it better than nothing and Invasion is my favorite game mode so all in all I prefer Reach.

Because Reach only has 1 playlist for Elites out of the ENTIRE list of game types they had in it? Sorry, but I still preferred variety like Halo 2 and 3.

I prefer full playability to. All I meant was that Reach still had elites unlike Halo 4 and that given the choice between the two I prefer Reach. While we are at it as an ODST player I prefer the Reach look as well and the fact that it is free.

I like Halo 4’s ODST look. It’s reminiscent of Halo 2, which is what they seemed to be going for. I loved the original ODST look.

If 343i intends what seems to be making future Halo games more classic in terms of styling at least,I do hope we get our Honour Guards and Councillors back.Albeit many of the latter were murdered by the Jiralhanae,I believe there would be some left at least. And do touchups as well on them, give them a fresh feel to them yet still maintaining that familiar look.

If they return elites to matchmaking, maybe the Arbiter will be in the campiagn.

You can still get a better Halo 2 look in Reach because as I have noticed the air assault helmet looks exactly like an updated Halo 2 ODST helmet, the chest with the donkey d### grenades the name of which I forget is reminiscent of Halo 2 ODST chest armor, and Reach has the exact same shoulders. Plus the silver visor is closer to their visor than anything in 4. Back on the subject of elites and while we are on the subject of Halo 2, do you guys prefer Halo 2 Arbiter or Halo 3 Arbiter? I personally prefer 3’s design but I don’t like how his armor looks like bronze in some light.

I highly doubt either of them will return unless we get games that take place before the Great Schism. Sangheili Councilers only existed to be on the Covenant high council, and have no place in the martial-based Sangheili homeworld political setup based around Matriarchal families having mower.

Likewise, Honour Guards only existed as the personal guard to Prophets. It’s hard to imagine even the most important Sangheili leaders taking an Honour Guard regiment, as Sangheili are only as strong as themselves. It would appear weak to rely on others to protect them.

I don’t see why Councillors would not appear in later media, though I’m not sure their armours would still be in use. The Councillors Thel ‘Vadam saved will likely be still alive, and I would not be surprised if they continued to go into a new Sangheili high council or other governing body. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were Kaidons or other similar positions either, due to Sangheili meritocratic society. I’m not sure where you got matriarchal Sangheili society from, most media says the opposite – Vadam’s council was made up entirely of males, and in Mdama females like Raia only held sway in internal keep affairs, while the males controlled everything else. Due to Sangheili meritocracy, I would expect that many just returned to their places of power in their own keep councils. I don’t see why Councillors would not appear, unless they have been shamed for working with the San’shyuum for so long.

Yeah, in The Return it was stated that many Honour Guards committed suicide after hearing of the Great Betrayal and the lies of the San’shyuum. Those still alive will have likely been shamed, or have become redundant in post-Schism society. I doubt we will see any in later media. That isn’t to say that it is impossible their armours were not in use in other sections of Sangheili society. I doubt we will see Honour Guards themselves, but it would not be impossible for their armours to appear.

They’re both very possible, armour-wise at the very least. Councillors and Honour Guards not shamed by their work could very well appear. The Councillors’ armour was simply a ceremonial helmet after all, and could be used in other parts of society, so I don’t really see why not.

Though Honour Guards may not appear in the next Halo,I do think that high ranked Sangheili will need some sort of protection, though being seasoned warriors themselves and being completely capable of self-defence,its always better to play safe.I was honestly very fond of the roles they played, serving the San Shyuum and protecting them.I don’t see why the actual role of the Honour Guards could not come into play in Halo Xbox One.They themselves should have been very experienced and capable personnel to have been chosen by the San Shyuum. At the very least if they do return in Halo Xbox One,if not serving the San Shyuum, will act as a form of security personnel for high priority Sangheili.I’m not a hardcore Halo fan and I don’t read the books,so I’m sorry if what I say may seem contradictory.I want the San Shyuum back.It was when they ruled supreme was the time where the Sangheili were the most glorious, with well crafted armour and serving them to journey into their religion’s ‘Divine Beyond’.

Hey guys quick random thought what do you guys think about “The Unnamed” for a Sangheili clan name? My thinking is that it would be a black ops organization formerly of the Covenant that now works for the Arbiter.

I think some form of Honor Guards, Personal Guards, or even the Ascetics should be in.

Ascetics could be in to protect Sanghieli law (that’s what they do anyways) while Jul’s forces could have Personal Guards.

And Personal Guards just makes too much freaking sense for Jul. Wouldn’t Jul want his best of the best Elites be guards to protect him? He almost died in Episode 9 of Spartan Ops if it weren’t for the fact Knights could teleport in, and now that Requiem is destroyed, that can’t happen, so I’d like to think Jul would want some personal guards.

I really love the Honor Guards (they look so -Yoink!-!). Oh, the amount of times I’ve played the mission Regret simply because they were in that mission in numbers. Plus, I’ve always wanted to use the Energy Stave.

I really hope Personal Guards are put in Halo 5, along with some kind of useable Energy Staves. I’d be so happy if that would happen.

Let me post what I posted in the Halo 5 Community Suggestion Thread:

> I’d love to see some kind of Personal Guard variant for the Elites as enemies. Possibly bring back either the Honor Guards or the Ascetics, and give them an Energy Stave (remember, the top of the stave ignites in blue plasma when activated). In Multiplayer, you can have that armor on, and use the Energy Stave (at least in Campaign/Spartan Ops/Firefight). For gameplay, their shields could be as tough as an Ultra’s/General’s, and when they lose their sheilds, they could pull out Hardlight Shields. To make the Energy Stave unique from the Energy Sword, make it where the Elites swing twice with it, like swing to the left then right, each can cause instant kill; As for players, its lunge would be further than the Energy Sword, players swing twice with it with one hit of the button (each swing does a lunge), each swing causes 50% damage, after the dual swing there’s a long pause, each hit makes the Stave lose 5% (out of a total of 100%), and when the energy amount runs out the lunge and double swing stays but the damage is decreased to 25%. That’d be awesome. As for story, it’d make too much sense.
> [Yes, I’ve been thinking of this a lot, lol. I miss Honor Guards from Halo 2; I played the levels in Campaign a lot simply because they had Honor Guards in them. I used them a lot in Halo Wars too, even if they weren’t the best. And I’ve always wanted to use the Energy Stave.]
