Sangheili (Elites) In New Trilogy Matchmaking (Part 1)

> > Because people are likely going to complain again like the other hunched over Elites like in Halo 3. couldn’t shoot them in the back of the head or anything
>
> Halo 3’s Elites used the exact same hit-boxes as the Spartan-II model…

Not entirely true… I’ve tested it myself, they are harder to hit from behind.

The reason for this is that the head hitbox is moved forward. So if you try and shoot the head of the elite from behind, it tends to pull the bullets down into the back instead, thus negating them from headshot damage. Worked with BR and sniper, though I didn’t try any other weapons.

So yeah, it was unbalanced in 3, to an extent.

> So yeah, it was unbalanced in 3, to an extent.

Elites in Halo 3 might of been harder to shoot in the back just by a little bit. I could still get headshots off. Also we can’t ignore the fact that elites were vulnerable from the front for headshots. For them body shots were headshots.

The reason that Halo Nation offers two averages is because of Halo Reach/Wars.

In Halo 1, 2, and 3, Elites stood at an average height of 7’4" and this was defined in all of the books as well.

In Halo Wars, Ripa 'Moramee was described as being “Unusually Tall” for a Sangheili at a whopping 8’6" standing “Roughly a foot taller than most” (Again implying that the average height of an Elite was roughtly 7’6" and that Ripa was basically a freak of nature. (directly matching the 7’4" average set up by the original trilogy).

Just visiting either a Halo Nation, or Halopedia page doesn’t really give accurate information all the time. The two numbers the first represents the average height as told to us by Halo 1-3, the second is the height of Ripa 'Moramee, so while SEVERAL Elites stand about 7’4"-7’6" tall, Ripa was a single Elite standing what was described as a “Freakish” 8’6". That number is more a “maximum height” than an average.

Then all of a sudden in Halo Reach, all the Elites in the game were gigantic. Easily hitting 8’ tall, if not taller. Why? Because “We wanted to make the Covenant scary in the Campaign.” Not because that’s what Elites are meant to look like, they are meant to look like they did in Halo CE.

In Halo Reach, Elites were actually much TALLER than they are meant to be. And hud much larger heads than they should to. In fact, they were basically just wrong in all proportional ways.

Here are the heights of Elites in Halo CE:

Exhibit A: May be small, but we see that the Elite stands only marginally taller than the player.

Exhibit B:Due to the animation he is in, this Zealot actually appears SHORTER than Master Cheif.

Exhibit C: While it’s not necessarily clear due to the angle, the Elite is crouching slightly from it’s full height making it nearly the same size as Master Chief in Halo 2.

Exhibit D:
Even in Halo 4 when you play as Master Chief, the only parts of Elites that are really taller than you, are the parts sticking up on the armour.

This is were i come in and tell you the average Sangheili Height is 7,10 Ripa wasn’t a giant. Halo Wars wasa fluke of a Halo game and we all know this.
Xytam 'Jar Wattinree was a giant…not Ripa.

Not to mention that Ghost of Onyx came out before Halo Wars so this proves that elites are average 7,10.

I will say Ripa was tall but no giant. Compairng it to normal human sizes Ripa would be a 6,5. A tall guy but Xytam would be 9,3.

There hasn’t even been a person reconded being that tall.

But Someone being 6,5 is nothing new. You could walk down the street and maybe a 1/5 of the males you see could be that tall, maybe even a few females. Now put armor on Xytan and Ripa than Ripa might just be around 7,2 by normal human stands is -Yoinking!- huge. Than Put Xytan in armor and you still can’t compare the size of about 10 feet. So by means of normal size to a species who is accustomed to being larger than most aliens intelligent life they come across being 8,7 for an elite would just be a tall guy not a giant.

So if someone starts a clan from this thread what do you guys think it should be called? Perhaps something like the “Knights of Sangheilos” or something like that.

Lol I want this=)

More like ‘‘Lights Of Sanghelios’’ thats what the Sangheili honour guards are sometimes called.Oh yeah, perhaps they can introduce energy staffs like those seen in early Halos and allow us to use it.We’d be instant badasses.

> So if someone starts a clan from this thread what do you guys think it should be called? Perhaps something like the “Knights of Sangheilos” or something like that.

The last time we ever had joint up Sangheili clans to form up together, it was called the Covenant. It hardly lasted at all due to political powers not quiet cooperating, plus we had some Spartan clans that pretty much screwed over the entire Covenant Legion. I very much doubt forming everyone into a treaty is gonna last long either…

> So if someone starts a clan from this thread what do you guys think it should be called? Perhaps something like the “Knights of Sangheilos” or something like that.

nah,the sangheili clans usually are fleets. for example: sangheili eminence fleet, crusading spirit fleet, blades transcendence fleet. so we might follow the same trend.

Yep…formed Covenants never last. I wish it was as easy to form a treaty with all Sangheili clans, but Separatist, imperialist, and Traditionalist. Still have differences towards each other. I’m talking from a Separatist POV.

Well i guess when we are at stake we are capable of rallying together. I say that at least some sort of consortium should be made up in case a situation like this happens again…if a situation like this is able to happen again. Lets hope not.

The Sangheili Conglomerate

if any should be the name of this current pause in this sort what POV war between different Sangheili Clans. I say this Conglomerate should be a sort on council for the other clans. A representative whenever a joint effort is called for. I say anyone who wants to start this Conglomerate would have to be a very persuasive group of people with enough power to hold their own against several clans. Maybe the Mandalorian Clans should just rule this Conglomerate.

The book that mentions Xytan also hints that he isn’t/wasn’t really that tall. By this I mean he was only seen from a holo-projector, making it a possibility that he up-scaled himself to seem larger (and therefore more powerful to his subordinates). In addition to this, he is only seen while wearing a large and ornate headdress (similar to the Councilors of Halo 2), making his actual height even more controversial and potentially distorted.

That being said, I would like to see a return of Elites in multiplayer, but in the sense of a playable race in a more extensive and fleshed-out Invasion gametype (where the Covenant/Promethean team can be various units of the Covenant, similarly to Beast Mode and OverRun Mode in Gears of War 3 and Judgment, respectively). They do give an unfair inconsistency, whether up-sized or not, to competitive players (being easier to headshot from the front, harder to headshot from behind).

The book in which Xytan is portrayed also suggests that he isn’t actually as tall as depicted. By this, I mean that he was only shown thorugh a holo-projector and therefore could’ve up-scaled his image th be more imposing to his subordinates. He also was only shown with a large and ornate headdress (similar to the Elite Councilors of Halo 2), which further makes his actual size debatable.

Regardless, I feel that Elites, whether scaled down or not) offers an inconsistency in competitive multiplayer (easier to headshot from front, harder to headshot from back). That said, I would like to see them return as a playable race in a more fleshed-out and diverse re-imagining of Invasion, where the Covenant/Promethean team can take the form of various units of their respective factions (similar to Beast Mode and OverRun Mode of Gears of War 3 and Judgment, respectively).

By this I mean starting units allow for the choice of Suicide Grunt, Jackal, or a low-ranking Elite. However, similar to the mechanic of accumulating points to call down ordinance, you can “purchase” more powerful units to play as, such as Hunters, Zealots, Brute Chieftains, and even Promethean Knights. I do have a topic on this subject if you’d like to know more about the idea.

Sorry for repost mistake there. Its early in the morning…

You do realize the original poster of this threat is Xzan Tamas, the founder and at the time the leader of Crusading Spirit, right?

Derp.

I’m just sayin… The only solution i see for this working is.

  • Changing Spartans from IV’s to II’s
  • Changing the Elites back to a modified version of the CE model.

Elites in CE were slim, and stood upright like Spartans only showing a little height difference, modify the hit boxes and give them some new, not crazy armor sets. We can all enjoy multiplayer using both models with no disadvantages on each side. And think about it, this is next gen ppl they can definitely make this possible.

The Heretic Leader in Halo 2 used Holodrones, which are holographic combat units, not just traditional holograms. As well, the Holograms Truth used in Halo 3, (and Regret in Halo 2), were actually much SMALLER than the prophets themselves, and are just small portable projection units. And finally, the Hologram Armour Ability is UNSC tech, in both Reach and Halo 4, not Covenant. And the only Covenant ever to use a similar type of equipment, was the Skirmisher.

Xytan’s projection was actually described to be much larger than he actually is, as well, it was a permanent fixture into the meeting room that was used by the Elite Ship Masters. It was not a dingy portable designed to be carried around and set up on the go like the ones we saw the Prophets use. The center floor of the room was literally a big holographic projector.

Also, considering the fact that Covenant hallways aboard ships and High Charity are described as being 10’ high, I’d doubt an Elite would actually stand that tall. Even a Hunter would only stand 9’-9’6" tall if it weren’t for the spines on his back being a good 3’ long. Could you really imagine an Elite dwarfing a Hunter? I couldn’t.

Remember in Halo 2 the heretic leader’s holograms where his size as well as Regrets Holoterminals were his size too. Halo 3 Truths Terminals were his size and as we all know that in Reach and Halo 4 holograms take you size.

That doesn’t mean that the holo-projector can’t be altered to make the projected image distorted, only that they aren’t all calibrated to do so. The Elites are a prideful race, after all, so such a display of projecting superiority through size completely fits what at least some of them would do. Also, why would Reach’s holograms make the projected image be deliberately larger than the actual person? That would kinda be detrimental to the purpose of its function.

Well I don’t think he’s leading them anymore. Because when I was with the CSF, they left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

My apologies though, but the leadership I was dealing with was nothing but bunch of trolls. I am unsure if that’s changed but like stated, I left on a very sour note.

It hardly lasted at all due to political powers not quiet cooperating, plus we had some Spartan clans that pretty much screwed over the entire Covenant Legion. I very much doubt forming everyone into a treaty is gonna last long either…

A representative whenever a joint effort is called for. I say anyone who wants to start this Conglomerate would have to be a very persuasive group of people with enough power to hold their own against several clans. Maybe the Mandalorian Clans should just rule this Conglomerate.

I think all Sangheili Clans should come together when the community is at threat and part differences when needed.
