Sangheili (Elites) In New Trilogy Matchmaking (Part 1)

I don’t like elites. I want to play as Prometheans

> I think it’s a bit insulting for 343i to see that such a large chunk of the community wants Elites back. And then instead of adding the model into Multiplayer, they go and make 4 new spartan armours, 6 new armour skins, and 6 new weapons skins (but only for UNSC weapons), as the next DLC pack.
>
> Where is the Elite player model in all this? Clearly you can do it, if you couldn’t, you wouldn’t have been able to make completely new sets of armour as DLC.

Adding new player models is completely different than adding new armour variants.

If you watched any of the trailers of Halo 4 before launch, you’d notice that they first made the black ‘suit’ for Spartans to wear, then they added the armour variants on top. This is the case for both Multiplayer & Campaign.

To add new player models, they’d have to first get the Elite model and put it into multiplayer, then create a first person view for it so it shows Elite’s arms, legs, etc.

Here’s a list of what they’d need to do to make Elites work in Halo 4.

[/li]- Add a new HUD for Elites

 • Modify all the view models to incorporate Elite hands
 • Add assassination animations for Elites to assassinate Spartans
 • Add vehicle entering animations for all UNSC vehicles
 • Add reload animations because Elite’s don’t reload weapons
 • Add a sprint animation because Elite’s don’t sprint
 • No Armour Ability animations (Hologram, Thruster Pack, Regen Field, Auto Sentry, etc)
 • Third person animations for Hardlight Shield
 • Unbalanced hitboxes for Elite players (taller, stronger, faster)
 • No menu selection, requires UI changes which could result in players having to download all the .map files linked to the main menus (this could be a huge download)
 • Nothing on Player Cards for Elites, no Elite stances, no custom colours, no Elite armoury in general
 • Emblems wouldn’t show up on body, only programmed to go onto a Spartan

Now look at all these issues that would need to be addressed in order to add Elites to multiplayer. Compared to simply adding armour pieces to a puppet which is what Halo 4 does when adding new armour models.

There is no point in hoping for Elites in Halo 4, it simply isn’t worth the effort, the Elite community is so miniscule compared to the entire Halo population.

> > The fact that we still haven`t gotten a direct no on Elites being added to Halo 4 gives me hope.
>
> Actually yeah, we got a direct no a long time ago. We just don’t know why, unforunately.
>
> A user called Bumper Jumpzz (or something along those lines) tweeted a 343i member team asking them if elites would be playable (long before the games release) and the reply was “No, Elites will not be playable at all in Halo 4.”
>
> So no, we won’t be seeing Elites added to Halo 4.
>
> Halo Xbox One is the next step, let’s hope we’re not overlooked this time.

Infinity multiplayer is all set aboard the ship and focuses on your career as a Spartan IV. No playable Elites this time.

We were told explicitly why Elites weren’t going to be playable before launch, heck I assume this is the tweet you’re referring to.

So do you believe Elites should be added into Halo “5”?

> So do you believe Elites should be added into Halo “5”?

I personally don’t want to see them because there will always be an balance issues between the player models because Elites are canonically stronger and faster and I don’t see them dropping the whole Infinity concept for multiplayer, including the Spartan IV career stuff.

Ahhh, that’s right. That probably is the tweet I’m thinking of.

My guess would be I couldn’t remember why the elites were out was because that was a terrible reason (IMO).

But I guess we did get an official response… er, somewhat anyway…

Why not customs and/or Invasion?

No point in taking them out entirely. Plus, they could do what Quake does and have an option to simply revert every to the same species to avoid gameplay problems if they don’t want them.

So go in, set “All players Spartan.” “All Players Elites” or “Both.” and be done with it.

As for Infinity, you of all people know how that’s going to be replied to :stuck_out_tongue:

No point in rehasing that discussion, as you know this threads stance on the “Infinity” business.

Besides, if Mini Slayer and Flood are canonical, then there’s no real reason that Elites shouldn’t be.

If the Sangheili community is miniscule than why is this the top thread on these forums? The majority of Halo players have no problem with Elite playability or very much so miss it! I agree that adding armor is easier than adding Elites in but adding Elites is doable. Matter of fact unless the modifying they did to Reach’s engine really changed it beyond recognition than the engine should already be capable of supporting Elites. At this point though I agree it is to late to add Elites in to Halo 4 as hopefully they are already working on making the next Halo better. I would still love to see an Elite dlc for Halo 4 and that would go a long way towards putting 343 back in my good graces and help bolster Halo 4’s crashing population. Either way that will have to be one of the many problems they fix for my continued support of the franchise rant concluded.

Feel free to slip them in custom games or have some sort of Elite Slayer playlist (which still didn’t happen in Reach for whatever reason) - this topic is asking for Elites in Matchmaking which I disagree with entirely. Invasion is a pain in the -Yoink- to balance, it still wasn’t in Reach. The Elites were faster & stronger, while their weapons were awful at taking out vehicles while Spartans were slower & weaker but their weapons dominated vehicles.

Depending on how the sandbox is for the next game will ultimately decide if Invasion will work or not.

These forums are such a small percentage of the Halo community, having a ‘top topic’ on these forums means nothing.

Also, if you can get the ‘majority of Halo players’ to post here and say they don’t mind, then maybe your point would be proven, but as far as I can see, you’re just making up numbers, which makes it moot.

Adding Elites is doable completely, but it would take a lot of man hours to make it possible and simply isn’t worth the effort that it would require to please a small amount of players. This game was built off Reach’s engine (albeit, an extremely old version of it from 2010), as you can see, the elements Bungie added for Elites simply don’t exist in Halo 4, including assassinations, view models, player models, all the other stuff mentioned above.

Once again, the game could support Elites, I’m not denying that but it would take so much time to add them back in and with a brand new Halo game coming in 2014, it would be better for them to focus on possibly bringing Elites back for Halo on Xbox One rather than the game that wasn’t designed for them.

Also, what makes you think that adding Elite DLC would suddenly improve the Halo 4 population? There is no doubt it would cost (especially for the effort that would have been put into it) which would certainly put a lot of people off the concept entirely.

So apparently 343 is bringing back ODST armor in the Champion bundle. I still don’t know if that will make Halo 4 worth playing every now and then as I can get it for free in Reach.

Like I said, they could just have a species option and be done with it.

Simple fix. Everyone gets what they wants and nobody suffers because of it.

It’d be good, I have no issue with some sort of Elite playlist(s), just don’t mix the two player models when one is more stronger than the other.

I personally would miss fighting spartans just as some of them miss fighting us.

Well, in that regard they could simply make it a cosmetic/hitbox change that players could turn off if they wanted to (but would be set to both by default).

This way, there wouldn’t be any noticable difference between the two while you were playing as one, nobody would have an advantage and people who wanted to play as elites and wanted to see other elites could.

For competitive play with as little variations as possible, set it to all spartans.

So set it to both :stuck_out_tongue:

That way you’d fight spartans and elites.

1st I agreed that it is to late to add Elites in so I will not bother repeating myself.
2nd When I said the majority I was going by these forums and my Halo friends as I do not have anything else to go on as do you. I can count the number of Halo players who have said they don’t want them back on one hand in contrast to the almost 800 people who have thanked this thread. If you can get all Halo players together and ask them how they feel about it then I will base my opinion off from that but until then I consider these forums to be the best indicator available.
3rd Yes I believe that adding Elites back would improve Halo 4’s population because it would bring back at least some of the Sangheili community including myself hence improving it. Will it save Halo 4 I don’t know but it could only improve it!

I will say now that I do not want this to turn into an internet fight and I have tried to not state my opinion in an insulting manner. If I have please point it out and I will consider doing things differently. That being said I expect the same from you.

Invasion is a pain in the -Yoink!- to balance, it still wasn’t in Reach. The Elites were faster & stronger, while their weapons were awful at taking out vehicles while Spartans were slower & weaker but their weapons dominated vehicles.

Okay I thought you were suggesting something like another idea that has been mentioned before on these forums where all players would be turned into Elites or Spartans based on an option like the one you mentioned. I think the solution could be just as simple as having the basic game modes where they have a spartan playlist, a Elite playlist, and a mixed playlist. That way if someone wants to play with the same hitboxes they have that option but if someone wants more variety they aren’t screwed because of it.

If they brought Elites into Multiplayer as DLC, I could picture them working it into the story with a short CG cutscene that will play the first time you load up War Games after downloading the pack.

The Infinity is shown docking at a UNSC space station:

Commander Palmer and Captain Lasky walk with a small contingent of Spartans (perhaps Majestic?). Palmer is just reaching the end of a conversation, you catch her saying “I just don’t get it, sir, why did we detour out to this section of space?”.

Then a bulkhead opens to show a boarding party, the Arbiter leads a large group of Elites onto the Infinity, looks about, spots Lasky and Palmer, and begins walking towards them.

Palmer leans in towards Lasky and quietly says “Sir, with all due respect I don’t want these Hinge-Heads aboard my ship!.”

Lasky looks over at her and replies (purposely loud so everyone can hear). “This is MY ship Commander. And right now, we could use all the help we can get. They’re here to take down Jul 'Mdama.”… "Arbiter, welcome aboard. I’ll show you to our training room.

It then cuts to the training area, showing the Arbiter being connected up to the War Games simulator. And some diagnostics being run to make it compatible with Elite physiology. Dr. Glassman then says, “We are initializing the connection to your neural pathways now. Due to the nature of the program, you will find that inside the simulator your avatar has been reduced to the same height as the Spartans. Other than that you should notice little difference.”

Then the cutscene goes inside a simulated game on Haven, showing the Arbiter spawn in with Red armour, next to an re Elite and two red Spartans. One of the Spartans looks over at him, and nods. Then the four run off screen.

Very specific and detailed! I believe something like that could work.

I dont think they can put it in Halo 4, but this sounds like a great way to keep “multiplayer canon” and still have Elites in Halo 5.

Makes sense considering the Spartans don’t really die and they re-spawn. So they probably just use avatars. It would just work for cannon, and the reductions on Elites would be to give Elites better training.

''Although I agree 110% that players should have their choice (I’m not a dino-lover, but at least I love freedom), and this may not be of much help, there are alien-ish armor designs to serve as a temporary fix for all those fans who love their über-futuristic fix.

Armor sets like EVA, War Master, Oceanic, Wetwork, Operator, Pioneer, Hazop, Tracker and Venator have noticeable aspects of the Covenant’s design-language that could provide a similar Covie feel to your Spartan while you guys wait for a possibility of a resolution.

Heck, I’ll personally send armor suggestions (via fileshare screenshots) to those who request it, if they wish. I don’t mean to brag, but I do have experience with suggesting armor combinations to those who request it, and I do have all of the armor sets I’ve listed, and a few commendation-exclusive skins for most of them.

It’s not right that 343i practically abandoned such a large community. Seeing as armor DLC seems possible (lookin’ at the Champions Bundle), perhaps there is a possibility for Sangheili player models integrated in multiplayer.

That’s all 343i has to do to regain respect from a wide variety of players, not just dino fans.’’

Actually Venator,Wetwork and Oceanic maintain Forerunner design aspects. They used sharp angles in their architecture and is very geometric and symmetrical.Take the forerunner Dreadnought for instance and compare it to a Covenant Supercarrier. The Covenant have smooth, curved, natural shaped elements incorporated into their design, their single unit drop pods are such an example. And you are missing one key feature, design ornamentallity. We see none of that on spartans. The Zealots had blue armour lightings that ran through the armour and made it look futuristic,I have seen none of this on spartans in Halo history.
-Just a friendly statement

Oh yeah we could minimise the armour profile and silhouette of Sangheili and maintain a fair kill box.Hmm…,but would this make Sangheili armour less extravagant with this more stealth based approach?
