Sangheili - Art style

What sangheili art style you guys want to see in infinite and why?

Personally i would like to see the H2A variation.
Their anotomy look fluid and organic without put too much details. Same for their armor

I’m pretty sure at least 95% of halo fans want the halo 2a elite design. The halo 4/5 elites look more like brutes than elites

I really hope we’ll get so see something more like Halo 3. The H2A Elites were a huge step up from the 4/5 design, but something about their design is just a little bit off to me.

All designs for me :man_shrugging:t2:. I know that’s a stretch but I think the designs being tied to specific factions makes sense to me. A mixture of H2A and H3 for more Swords of Sangheilios tied Elites, 4-5 for splinter/Storm Covenant, and maybe even some of those Banished baddies. As for their phenotype, a mixture would make sense since it’s almost just an ethnic variety. This would tie in with the Jackals too considering the Raptor and Bird-like differences.

I get this feeling that they’re going to have a classic like art design with a new spin that the fans will absolutely enjoy. Even the Halo Wars 2 models on the Main Menu where just spot on.

Don’t forget the intense combat battle cry “wort wort wort wort” from CE. Voice style matters too!

I actually preferred the the elites from reach, they managed to come across as noble warriors and intimidating creatures which I enjoyed.

As the species themselves, I’d want the H2A permutation. But for armor, definitely Reach. The Sangheili Harnesses from that game were simply intimidating and awesome.

Honestly if we went back to the reach design or even halo 3 i’d be fine with it. Just please god please make the designs better than what we got in 4 and 5 please god please. H2A has some beautiful looking elites as well.

Both, I want to see acknowledgement that there are different variations within the species and that both were always present during the war. We never saw the Hesduros elites in Halo 1-Reach because that design just didn’t exist but lore wise, after 343 developed them, they still worked for the covenant and males were still enlisted in covenant army. the reason we don’t see classic elites in 4-5 is because the Jul 'Mdama enlisted almost the entire planet after the covenants collapse but classic elites did also exist in that faction. Another reason is that 343 just didn’t use the classic design despite having the assets from H2A that could have been tweaked and implemented but as I am on a game art course and did game design in college I can fully understand the time and difficulties that they would have had if they tried.

But now with Jul 'Mdama dead I can see more elites joining the arbiter, including Hesduros elites, so seeing both and having the game randomise which ones appear everytime you replay a mission would be awesome but difficult to successfully implement.

I’ts something I’d like to see with the other species as well, especially Kig-yar, there are three subspecies and to have the game randomise the classic and H4/5 ones would be awesome, having the classic ones (with the shields) stick nearer to the leaders because they’re lighter and less bulky and the ranged ones have carbines, snipers, needle rifles etc whereas the more reptilian ones from 4/5 can take a little more damage and move more aggressively towards players and their ranged ones have storm rifles, plasma repeaters, concussion rifles, plasma casters etc. the there’s the skirmishers which are meant to be rare now, so they could have a rare chance to spawn with any group of jackals. Then lets take this another step further, in the lore males have feathers(skirmisher) or spines (jackals) whereas females have hard plates on the back of their necks, lets add more diversity and detail to bring more life to these aliens.

I have to agree with the people saying Halo 2 Anniversary Elites. I think they look their best there.

I’d say something similar to classic Elites, maybe a bit like Halo Wars 1 Elites. The problem with 4,5 Elites is the designs just seemed generally bad and it’s the same problem with the Jackels, Grunts but they did get the Brutes designs right in Halo Wars 2 or least seemed fine so maybe they’ll fix the general design in Infinite.

The weird thing about the Elites is in 4,5 is they acted way too much like Brutes in their general behaviour so that would need to be changed too.

As someone who is not a fan of the Halo 4/5 Sangheili, not particularly fond of the Halo Reach Sangheili and cannot stand the H2A/HW2 Sangheili, I’d love to see a new design inspired by the classic Sangheili that appear in Halo’s 1, 2 and 3. Here’s a little summary of the appearances of the Elites across the games that may enlighten you as to why I’d like to see something new but classic inspired: (Click on the blue links to see some examples as you read)

Halo CE - In Halo CE, the Elites have a simple, elegant, lean (slender but strong) design. They are clearly inspired by the Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise with their extra long skulls and necks as well as the Yautja from the Predator franchise with their split mouths/jaws. Their armour is sleek and colourful, but also pointed with ‘fins’ on their helmets, elbows and knees. Overall, they have an eel-like, shark-like appearance to match the rest of their ships, weapons and technology.
Halo 2 - The Sangheili change very little from Halo CE to Halo 2. With extra polygons, their shape is now more defined. The squid-like form of their heads, particularly the smoothness of the way their mandibles seamlessly split off from the sides of their heads, can now be more easily noticed. Two armour types have been discarded while four have been introduced, but overall, they still retain their sleek shark-like design.
Halo 3 - Their armour has a lot more detail to it and seems to be thicker without drastically changing the silhouette of the Elites. For the most part, they look, move and feel the same way as they did in Halo 2. On top of their more detailed standard combat harnesses, more armour has been introduced such as the Assault variant and plenty more multiplayer additions.
Halo Reach - Reach introduced the first major change to the Sangheili design. They now stand straighter and no longer have the rippled, scale-like texture beneath their armour. It has been replaced by rubbery undersuits. Their skulls are slightly shorter and don’t meld into their mandibles in quite the same was as they did in Halos 1, 2 and 3, and there are far more variations of their armour. Overall, they still have the shark-like design to them, but it’s much less obvious as they are far bulkier and with way more pieces to their armour than before. Their eyes have moved slightly closer to the front.
Halo 4 / 5 - Here the Sangheili armour changes again. It’s equally as drastic as Reach’s changes with around the same amount of armour variations. The default combat harness no longer comes with the classic ‘fins’ as before, which gives them a very different look. While their skulls are still long like classic Elites, they now have a dip in the middle and bumps/thorns along the sides. Their mandibles are very detached from their faces and start from a different position on their heads. For the first time, they physically move very differently from classic Sangheili. Their eyes have moved further closer to the front. Their hands are more claw-like. Overall, they retain some of their classic shark-like design, but lose much of it and feel a little more monstrous.
Halo 2 Anniversary - These Elites get a lot of praise in spite of the fact that they are arguably the most different from classic Sangheili. Their skulls are much shorter than any Sangheili every seen in the games before this point. Their craniums are now clearly more inspired by Earth’s snakes rather than sharks or xenomorphs. The front of their faces are quite flat with their eyes retaining their Halo 4/5 position at the front rather than sides. Their mandibles are very detached from their faces making them look much more ‘clicky’ and vastly different from Sangheili in Halos 1, 2 and 3. Their hands are claw-like, almost as much as the Halo 4/5 Elites. Their helmets are rounded and tilted downwards at the back rather than pointed upwards at the back as they’ve always been before. While their armour is still sleek-looking, overall, they look nothing like their classic shark-like selves from Halos 1, 2 and 3. They’ve gone from shark-like to saurian, a trait that used to belong exclusively to the Kig-Yar.

Halo 2 Thel 'Vadamee - Halo 2 Anniversary Thel 'Vadamee

If 343i are working hard to make Halo feel like Halo again then we need to return to the classic look and feel of the original Sangheili, not these lizard-beast hybrids that have appeared since.

You’re forgetting the Halo Reach elites and Skirmishers as well. Surely a year and a half is plenty of time to code and model a diversity like this. :o

Halo 2A seems like the gold standard for how modern Covenant designs should be done in general. I’d definitely be willing to go with something along those lines.

Personally I like both the H2A designs and the designs they came up with for 4/5. So I’d be ok wither either.

Reach

The whole “phenotype” or “Hesduros” variation of elites excuse completely lost its validity when the arbiters design was changed to the new style. Im not opposed to having both elite types in the game but in my opinion the H2A or reach elite designs should be the designs used.

I’d go with the Halo Wars 2 design. Good mixture of new and classic
