Sangheili armor inconsistency question

In Halo: CE-ODST, the Sangheili armor looks a specific way. Yet in Reach, 4, and 5 the armor for the Sangheili look different than their original trilogy counterpart. My question is, do certain fleets wear different designed armors. I noticed that In CEA, the Sangheili armor was made to match Reach’s as the Fleet of Particular Justice arrived at Reach. Truth and Reconciliation was part of the FoPJ and most likely would wear that styled armor. Have they stated the inconsistency in canon?

With Reach I can tell you almost for certain that it was meant to be an update/redesign of the ones in the original Halo:CE. There are designs that match up almost perfectly to the originals (like Marines for example), which leads me to believe that Reach’s designs were meant to be a semi-remastering of CE with new rank-based designs thrown-in.

Not sure about Halo 4-5, I’d guess it’s mostly because the Remnant is a completely different faction than the standard Covenant seen in CE-3.

I know that 343 is planning to address the Sangheili armor issue at some point, but we don’t really have a specific answer at the moment. We do know a few things, though: Armor appearance has to do with a combination of rank, role, and the Fleet and/or Unit a Sangheili serves with. There are certainly other factors, but nothing specific has been said.

In short, the variations on Sangheili armor seen throughout the games are all canon, and there is a reason for that. The reason just hasn’t been entirely flesh out, yet.

The people you were always with in Reach though were the UNSC Army though. Noble, Gauntlet, Echo and Red (the other Spartan III teams with MJOLNIR mentioned) were all part of SPECWARCOM which was under command of the Army. So I’m wondering why the UNSC Army was never on Pilar Of Autumn or if they were all killed. Or if they got out some other way.

Short answer is it’s not really an “inconsistency” when looked at through the lens of the universe proper. It’s almost silly to imagine that an empire as vast as the Covenant would have complete and utter uniformity in their armor styles, not to mention it (in my opinion) is just more enjoyable to have variation and diversity in the aesthetics. There are times of course, where liberties are taken from some sort of development perspective, that don’t necessarily line up to the “definitive” look of a particular entity in the canon. Such is life and the nature of a decade-and-a-half development of a huge franchise.

And yes, we do plan on talking more about some of these subjects in greater detail in the future, but today is not that day.

The Covenant seem to be the ultimate recyclers, but in a good way. No sense in throwing out gear and weapons that are perfectly good. Might even make sense to let new fighters have older gear and work their way up to better stuff once they prove themselves.
