Sandbox/forge editor?

The idea I am presenting would innovate Halo forever.

As the title indicates the idea has something to do with a sandbox editor in future Halo games as this is not possible in Halo 4.

The idea of a sandbox editor however is not an original. however I have think I know how one could be implemented.

I imagine the main reason one is not in the game already is that Microsoft wants to make as much money off DLC as possible, this could be turned around though.

How you may ask?

If halo had a sand box editor all they would have to do to make money off DLC is add objects and new features to the editor every DLC thus still making a handy profit and creating unlimited replayability.

Please leave your feedback below, I am eager to hear what you think.

I apologies if this has already been talked about.

A Far Cry 3-esque editor would do wonders for Halo. All it would need would be a proper sandbox, custom game options, and a custom games browser to be perfect.

And best way to go about this would make it an expansion pack where you can buy at local walmart or walmart like store or online for x amount of points. Reason I say an expansion pack as it’d work like forge, forge was on another disc and they made it so you installed it, then you could play it all on the same disc. Do the same and you should be fine, IMO. Except of people who can’t afford it, so make it like 10 bucks or something.

The problem with making it DLC is that not everyone will buy, therefore not everyone can play it, so the custom variants that come out of it get far less attention/play-time than they deserve.

It’s the same problem Tempest had back in Reach. Gorgeous map, new Forge environment, and no one could play customs on it because 1 guy hadn’t bought DLC.

I got a better idea.
Halo 5 have it a dual platform release of both PC and Xbox, give the PC game a Sandbox/Map Creator like in past Halo games, have it fully unlocked, like Halo PC, but a million times better. Include the true custom maps/levels in the File share, something like Starcraft 2’s “File” share system with their Star Editor, that expands to the Xbox as well, so both PC and Xbox gamers can enjoy playing true custom maps that made Halo Custom Edition so damn popular and last years after it’s release.

Reason I say this is because the Xbox 360 isn’t the best device for custom map editing like what the Cry Engine has, yes I know there’s been Cry Editors on the Xbox, but there’s only so much you can do with the Xbox controller. Releasing it on the PC would be better, you’re not limited on what you can do, and you can import models into the editor for some truly awesome maps. You can’t create maps like what Bungie and CA has created with just editing the terrain, they used a 3rd party modeling software to create those maps.

But if you promote it as an expansion pack, & tell all the things it fixes, people want to buy it. Like Doritos cool ranch taco at taco bell, no one wants to eat it until they have a reason to, which is, “Gives new Flavor, its rich, & juicy, & tastes great.”

So, it’d be more then a dlc as an expansion pack could include

Custom Games Fix
-list of fixes
Forge Fix
-list of fixes
Multi-player Fix
-list of fixes
Theatre Mode Fix
Firefight add-on
-list of fixes
Spartan Ops Season 1 - 5 download

The Mp one would be a TU, but you get the drift.

Good thing about the disc thing is you don’t have people complaining about taking up bandwith, my download took 8 days beause it was soo big.

You could have it through online, & through disc, for both same price.

Quite literally, people would want to get it. Thing about tempest was its awesome, but it wasn’t IMPORTANT enough.

@Weird Stealth, I’m wanting it to work for halo 4 has who knows when halo 5 might be around, and for all I know, I might be hit by a car tomorrow, you got one life, you want to live it you know.

Um, how about they also release a stripped-down version of the map editor for the 360 version as well so people who can’t afford a ridiculously good computer can still make maps? :stuck_out_tongue: Far Cry 3’s console editor is fantastic enough and it would probably be superior to that anyway. Otherwise, your idea is great.

Halo is supposed to be an Xbox only title though.

However, an online map maker that would allow you to port maps to Halo 4 would be astounding.

This could open up so many wonderful possibilities. Creating the canvas online with your PC via the “Halo Map Maker” and then porting it to forge to place weapons, spawn points etc?

Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

There’s already a stripped down version of the map editor, it’s called Forge. And you don’t need a super epic computer to run the editor.

> Halo is supposed to be an Xbox only title though.

Yeah… That might be the idea, but by the looks of things, I don’t think Halo is going to be selling the next Xbox.

Yes, I use the Star Editor for Starcraft and Starcraft 2, the first SE didn’t have the online “File share”, which in order for you to create a map and share it with your friends, you have to have them join a game with you, upload it to some file hosting site, or put the file on a disc and give it to them. The new SE all you have to do is create the map, publish it to the public, and anyone with an internet connection can download the map and play it, and/or edit it. (That is if you didn’t protect it)

I know, PC gaming has been doing the custom maps for a very long time, and it’s a shame that people create forge maps, and don’t get to play on true custom maps that have been created by the community. Hell, if they made this a reality, there’d be less “There’s too much gray” complaints, and people will be able to create maps that they feel fit the game much more. Hell, I’ve played some Custom Halo maps back in Halo Custom Edition that make most of the community favs like Blood gulch, lock out, and a few others look like crap.

Halo has a great idea with the File Share system, and the file share system Halo has doesn’t feel like a feature that should be limited to a Xbox only title. Hell, it’d make a lot of people happy if there was a PC version of the current Halo game that uses the same file share, people with programs like Fraps could record saved films for people, there wouldn’t be a huge need for capture cards. All people would need is to know someone who has a good PC with some kind of recording program, and bam, problem(s) solved.
