Same designs?

This is something that’s always mad me kinda scratch my head. Every Halo game there is always some artistic change to something (weapon, armor, species, vehicle, ect), and I gott ask, why? Can’t you decide on one design and go with it, rather than with every installment changing the look of something? I understand as the years go in the Halo universe tech would change, but come on.

I’m okay with design changes as long as they look good/better. But i agree. I like a little consistency with the designs.

I don’t see a problem. Most of the major changes have had canon explanations, usually involving new versions of various vehicles or equipment. I guess we can be like CoD and repackage the same thing over and over again.

Some things have undergone major visual changes throughout the span of the games and not changed model numbers, such as the Scorpion, banshee, and needler to name a few. I am okay with this, as most of us realize that graphics technology improves and artists want to give things a fresh look, yet it is generally accepted that even though it looks different, it is still the same. However others feel like if something changes slightly it MUST have a canonical explanation, and so to counter the complaining developers go out of their way to come up with unnecessary explanations that end up detracting from the design. The whole “nanobots” shenanigan for instance. Trust me i am a big lore geek, but i think it would be much more beneficial if we could accept that artists will constantly improve designs and leave it at that.

But that nanobots shenanigans was necessary. Little minor changes are fine but when something like that is completely overhauled in design it needs to be explained. I’d rather have the whole nanobots explanation then 343 saying this is what it looked like the whole time. Like what they did with the Forward unto Dawn’s appearance.

Not really, designs don’t affect gameplay at all, after all people looks always for a fresh look rather than seeing the same thing over and over.

Loads of people would -Yoink- and moan about the ‘same old -Yoink-’ and demand that 343/whomever modernize the graphics. It’s pretty much a lose-lose situation.

Not 100% true. Look games series like Mario, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Gears of War. (Just a few examples) they’ve kept the same designs for years and people still buy it/play it. Same with a lot of other series.

The first 3 of those are specifically aiming for a more cartoony/anime look, where its very easy to make things look the same, and things don’t start to look dated.

If its not a new model, the secondary explanation tends to be that it looks different because it was made in a different place; or different fleets/organisations having different versions of the same equipment.
